yo, thanks for this. this is beautiful. yes Primo uses very little (sometimes) of a sample and chopps it so you barely reckognize the sample. PRIMO on top. Pete Rock does it simillarly too.

He does both, depends on what beat you're talking about. His main sampler the Akai S950 has a powerful and distinct low-pass filter. Primo also has a couple basic modules in his setup to play basslines on.
