How can you say Niihara's voice is ok. he can sing with anybody while you, after 30+ some years is still singing out of your garage or your karokee machine. All you haters, plz you know nothing to be a dritic.
Are you crazy?) Vescera was terrible! That were awful years, when he was there. And the most of Loudness songs were not for Vescera's voice. Just hear "Crazy Doctor" in his perfomance to undarstand this.
I'm talkin' about voice and stile of singing. All song was written for Minoru's stile. It was very hard to sing it right for Vescera. We can hear it when he sing it live. And of course Niihara has more powerful voice. And he is always in key, no matter in studio or not :)
Ah, so you're saying that Loudness' songs were written with a melody that is normally thought of as being off key, but in Loudness' case was actually intentional. After 25 years of listening to Loudness, I finally understand...
I'm not saying that Niihara isn't a good vocalist. He gives Loudness a certain "personality." And as much as I like "Soldier of Fortune," for example, it sounds more like Obsession (Vescera's old band) than Loudness. However, even if Niihara is a good "vocalist," he can't, by any meaningful definition of the word, be considered a good "singer." Ozzy and Lemmy for example are good vocalists, but are definitely not good singers. There's an important difference. I listen to Loudness for the guitar.
If you're talkin' about vocal tehniques, Niihara is ok! Maybe you don't like peculiarities of japanese phonetics and pronunciation, but it doesn't mean that Niihara has bad tehniques. Maybe he isn't Geoff Tate, but Vesera isn't Tate too)
If you like only Takasaki's playing, you can listen his solo albums, he has a lot of them. But please, don't say that Niihara is bad singer :)
>Maybe you don't like peculiarities of japanese phonetics and pronunciation
Well, sport, I happen to be a professor of Japanese literature, so I am perfectly fine with the "peculiarities" of Japanese phonetics and pronunciation. A significant percentage of my CD collection consists of Japanese bands/singers. Niihara is not a good singer. His voice is weak, had a tendency to crack, and he has problems staying on key. Like I said, he's a good vocalist, but not a good singer. They're different.
ok, but Vescera is more screecher than singer, his voice is high-pitched, his timbre is boring. And I can't say that his voice has a great range, he sings without a lot of emotions, he is like a robot. Vescera is good in ballads and middle-tempo songs. But when he tries to sing smth like "Crazy Doctor"... Vescera's techniques is good, but his voice is weak and had tendency to crack too, espesially in fast songs.
And if you're talkin' 'bout Niihara vocal techiques, I repeat - he is ok. Much better than Ozzy or Lemmy or UDO or Hellford. Of course he isn's Tate or Dio, but he's not so bad as you say.
i think anthem is as good as loudness, in terms of the riffs and techniques and all...but it seems like loudness's status is much higher than anthem..just feel so sorry for these guys
It's because of language that they use in songs. Anthem write they songs with japan lyrics. Except few songs and "Heavy Metal Anthem" album. I think it was the reason why they didn't become famous out of Japan.
He didn't quit the band. This is Anthem's 20th anniversary live tour. Every song was performed by its original lineup. In this song, vocalist, guitarist, and drummer are former members of Anthem. Akio Shimizu was also in this live.
Ah, they're still around. Although the drummer, Munetaka Higuchi, just died of hepticular cancer. They reunited around 2000, but are now playing a heavy type of metal; much more detuned and slower generally.
You my friend, are a retard. I've seen Niihara live several times and he doesn't sing off key. And you don't make a viable case whatsoever in your distinction between being a good vocalist and a good singer. If you can't get your thoughts together, then don't post.
Congratulations on seeing Niihara live several times! I've been listening to him since the band started. You're rather blessed if you think Niihara is a good singer, since you have set the standard very low, making it possible for you to enjoy just about any "singer" out there. Congratulations, and best of luck in future endeavors.
Fortunately, it's only necessary to have a fundamental understanding of music to see that Mr. Niihara has a difficult time hitting the notes that common sense (and the composition of the song) would dictate. However, I appreciate your unique view, and realize that the matter of taste is relevant as well. My personal preference is singers who are proficient at carrying a tune, staying on key, not sounding constipated, and other such old-fashioned and frivolous elements. Best of luck.
@doghousepiiman Holy fuck, nothing is more hilarious than watching wannabes on Youtube pretend to know shit all about vocal technique.
I truthfully have no idea who the vocalist is, or why he isn't Eizo for that matter. That said, he sounds fine. Being a vocalist, I can safely say his "technique" is fine, and he has no trouble staying on tune.
.
Oh, fun fact: His vibrato is much more solid than either Eizo's or Graham Bonnet's. I suppose being full of shit, you wouldn't know that, would you?
You're right. He (Morikawa Yukio) sounds great, and I never said that he didn't. If you had read my previous comments, you would see, very clearly, that my comments regarding having difficulty following a tune, etc., were regarding Niihara Minoru, the vocalist for Loudness. So, before you jump into a conversation, toss about a bunch of expletives, and make yourself look rather silly, it might be good to take a deep breath and find out what the conversation is actually about.

Vescera had trouble live sometimes, but unfortunately, Niihara was always off key, whether live or in the studio.

Oh. I don't know what to say to you... Your welcome :)
Just listen Savatage's "The Wake Of Magellan" it is the example of vocal parts that was wtitten for the other singer.
And Loudness' vocal parts is ok. And Niihara is ok too. I can't understant what wrong with you. If you don't like it, just don't listen them.

Correct. His vocal technique is OK. Not good. OK. But mediocre technique and a voice that sounds like he's constipated add up to not a good singer.

Okay, I don't know why you keep talking about Vescera. I'm not holding him up as the ideal singer or anything like that.

Again you fail to clearly state a cogent arguement regarding Niihara's talent or lack thereof. Too much Beavis and Butthead. Read a book.
