I agree with most of your comments about Isreal. Remember this country was taken also. This can not be undone, but it must be done for the future better than the past. Senator Obama would be that person better than Clinton or McCain. There is a way for the Palestinians and the Isrealis to live in PEACE.
It is sad that even our most HOPEful candidate supports the Israeli genocide of the Palestinian people without so much of a mention to the Palestinian's rights and struggles. Once again the apologists for the Palestinians show their tenuous grip of history. With the demise of the Ottoman Empire, the Palestinian Mandate came into being. this is certainly not political pandering. this is Barack expressing his genuine unwavering support for Israel. any jew who listens to this speech and continues to have negative feelings toward Barack needs to have their head checked.
btw...the original ancient jews were black. look it up.
I look forward to the day that Israel grows into a country with open borders for all people, the capital of permanent world peace for thousands of years to come. I find it very very sad that some American religious mainstreams actually look forward to war in Israel- calling it armageddon. It seems very doable that Obama will get Hamas to recognize Israel, and goodwill reciprocated to Palestinian people- they are the only people taking the brunt- not any other muslims in the world.
I'm a BIG Obama supporter and I know that politically he needs to ensure the people of the US that he supports Israel, but I'm disappointed. There's no reason he can't celebrate the country while discussing its imperfections (just as he doesn't shy away from saying the US is imperfect while praising it) and expressing sympathy for Palestinians. Particularly irking is the line about securing peace for Israeli children that fails to mention Palestinian children.
We have to talk to Hamas, regardless of whether or not the Israeli people like it or not. We have to talk before we start dropping bombs, WE HAVE TO. I disagree with Obama's stance...but I think he's just courting the Jewish vote before he does what's necessary - negociating with Hamas and ALL of America's adversaries.
honestly I'm very dissapointed/disgusted by all of Obama's pandering to Israel... politicians are too scared to take a strong stance (or any stance at all) against them...
draztik, Obama was very pro-palestinian before he came into the US state senate, so what happened? Is he just doing this to stay afloat, or did AIPAC pay him to change his stance? I wonder.
America quotes the bible because of Israel...please quote the bible about justice..and in this case the land of Palestine..quote the bible bout attacking the innocents(children of Palestine)..quote the bible bout the Iraqis demise because of the US..Am so disappointed..
this is disappointing. the palestinians were robbed of their lands based on some religious myth that can't even be proved. this is disappointing. i wonder if my comment will be censored.
Barack supports zionism and the state that has abused the Palestinian people? This is not exactly change, I mean Clinton and Carter at least tried to keep peace there and create treaties, Obama flat out supports Israel. . .
it is sad that in the midst of Isreal independence you did not highlight the suffering of the Palestinian people, whoses land was taken from them by Jewish settler, you make mension of the raining home made rockets of hamas, but never highlight the years of economic and land depravation and deep prejudice that the palestinian has endured.
the speech was about Israel's independence, not about all the wrong things Israel is doing. Second the jews that created Israel were palestinian first if you know your history. The Ottoman Empire chose to side with germany, so ofcourse when they lost the allied powers would take controll of that land and do with it whatever they will. Not to mention look how small Israel is. Look how much more land the muslims have, and the other arab states mistreat the palestinians aswell.
1/1 tibbsn etc..--Once again apologists for the Palestinians show their ignorance of the history of the region. Let's set the record straight. After the break-up of the Ottoman Empire the Palestinian Mandate came into being. 80% of that land was given to the Arabs by Churchill in 1922, comprising Trans-Jordan & today's Jordan, where most Palestinians live. The other 20% was divided between Israel & the Palestinians in 1948. 10%of the original land, a thin sliver, became Israel.
"The UK agreed in the Hussein-McMahon Correspondence that it would support Arab independence if they revolted against the Ottomans. The two sides had different interpretations of this agreement. In this event, the UK, France and Russia divided up the area in ways unfavourable to the Arabs under the 1916 Sykes-Picot Agreement. Further confusing the issue was the Balfour Declaration of 1917, which promised support for a Jewish "national home" in Palestine." -Wikipedia
Obama is the only presidential hopeful amongst the 3 that can unite not only Americans but the world. He has those qualities of an intelligent leader that will be useful to amend America dwindling popularity at home and abroad. He has much to his credit as a true patriot and know what America needs to solve its internal and international problems.Israel's security is actually unshackable as far as Obama's rule in the White House will be concerned. He's the balance of power since he has hopes inhim.
Americans are so oblivious to what's really going on in the Middle East. Even Obama has no idea of what's going on in Palestine between the Israelis and Palestinians. Isn't ironic how the Jews suffered in the Holocaust but then the Israelis torture and kill the Palestinians without remorse. On top of that, America is the only country in the world who really supports what Israel is doing: getting rid of the Palestinians.
He has ore backbone, poise and intelligence than all the other challengers had, he really earned this and i'm going to support him 100%. I can't see how anybody could choose John McCain over this man and his hopeful plans for America. I get the feeling that he will be the most honest and fair President of our generation, a major step up from G.W.Bush.
Well, I still think Obama is the best choice despite his unwavering support of Isreal. Perhaps when he is in the Oval office he will have the info he needs to be more critical of Isreal's policies. He's a good man, and his concience will come into play, over his politics. That being said, I congratulate Isreal myself for 60 years of existance. Let's hope the next 60 are less bloody.
Barack is a man of reason. We can safely assume Obama will be FAIR in dealing with Israel and middle east affairs, NOT unwavering, because that is not good for Israel or America in terms of international appeal and is not condusive to peace.
I hope I will not be disappointed in my suppoert for Obama if he fails to also recognise the suffering of the Palestinians and the loss of their homelands. He refers to Moses without recalling that when the Isrealites "took" the "promised land" that there were thousands of inhabitants on that land who were also slaughtered and their lands taken because their "god" could not find them a piece of land that was un-inhabited. History was just repeated with the creation of the state of Isreal.
if americans don't vote obama that will show the world that americans love they situation they are into . Hillary can't stand up with Mc cain . the americans need a real man who's obama. he's the one
This should clear up the nonsense about Obama not being an Israel supporter. This is clearly one of the best candidates we've had running for decades. It's time to get behind him, and win the White House! Obama 08!
any way i am very very disappointed about you Barrack i thought you were different from other politicians but your approach towards Israel and the Arab-Israeli conflict is same as Bush, i never heard you talking about Palestinians and the Israeli atrocities.
It's true. I the US of A it's impossible to be elected without stating unequivocally that you support Israel. He says this is because of the promise Truman made 60 years ago. I say it is because of Israeli Lobby in Congress. Either way. America supports Israel. There's no changing that. The difference is that Obama's actually willing to talk to the Palestinians, unlike Clinton or McCain who would wipe them off the map.
You know what's weird (and i'm in no way Antisemetic) , but if he's running for President of the United States , why must he bow down and express his never dying love or support for Israel ? I know we're great allies , but it felt strange on Jewish owned media to make a Presidential candidate appease the Jewish community like that , As if he's obligated to ! Mel Gibson , Marlon Brando, Michael Jackson had their taste of it too. And none of them hate Jews either, nor do i . Peace
Popalongkid: I agree with you 100%! Obama is not running for office in Israel. He's running for office in the United States for crap's sake. Why does he have to kiss Israel's behind? My God, this pisses me off. No wonder why this country is going downhil. Everything is Israel. Israel. Israel. We're in America - not Israel.
israel is nothing less than Gods land. America is going downhill because of importing too much and exporting too little. i pray our country continues to honor israel as a whole.
I agree with you, nadoop. Being an American, I feel that not only Israel but what about the Palestinian people, what do they have? Is Palestinian not part of it? I don't know why Obama is doing this , he actually need votes from the Jewish Community that's all about it.
I love Obama, but this is a political pandering for finances and support. He did not mention once the situation of Palestinians. As an American I believe if we reconsider our relationship with Israel, the bulk of are problems with other Middle East countries will dissipate.
It is this mood that confronts a candidacy that provides hope for a better future, the very foundation of our country, with the very tactics he tries to eradicate and unfounded incredulity, not because he does not have experience to make it happen, but because of the belief of: "A better future? No, not in this country! He's so naive. We can't make that for ourselves and become racially, religiously, and ideologically unified!" Yes we can.
He should not be judged based on ridiculously loose connections that are deviously scrapped up in an effort to find some excitement or flaw. He should be judged not on his experience and ability to be politically expedient, dirty, or Machiavellian. he should be appraised based on his inherent judgment, his clear view for the country, and the mood he would bring to the country. Kennedy brought one of idealism, Bush brought one of cynicism with his corruption
I am the son of a rabbi, and I am an ardent fan who is volunteering for Obama this summer! The fear-mongering, fallacious propagaganda that stirs up Muslim rumors while not trying to seem racist under the taboo, with a "Just saying!..." approach must stop. This man has a voting record in 100% accordance with AIPAC, better than any candidate, and they will all be good for Israel.
Unfortunately, the politics in America are scum, and they will sneak McCain into the Whitehouse. I'm not even American and I hope to god that Obama wins. He's a real human being, not a fake politic corporate suit like McCain. He grew up in reality, he grew up rough, and he will fix up the mess that is America
How can you talk about Israel, without once mentioning Palestine? Securing peace for Israeli children? They're not the only ones that live on this land. Statistically speaking, the vast majority of deaths, poverty, and displacement are Palestinian.
I agree. This is something that pervades all the contenders for president this election year.Although I still think Obama can make real change since he is willing to hold talks with even those America considers their enemy, like Hamas. That's a step in the right direction. But I wish there was more talk about innocent Palestinians that are caught in the cross fire.I believe if the Palestinians had economic security, terrorist organizations like Hamas would not be welcome by a overwhelming majority
Bullshit, we talk with Hamas, we justify their authority, we legitimatize their rule. If bring them to the bargaining table, they'll do just that: they'll make (perhaps) a deal with America and Israel. Israel can't negotiate with terrorists. Economic security sounds fine, so encourage Palestinians to work for their state. There are plenty of options instead of resorting to terrorism; of course, the decision to be a terrorist seems pragmatic, but in these times, step outside of yourselves.
Tell the Israeli government that there are plenty of options other than resorting to terrorism/violence--- this is not a one way thing. It takes two to perpetuate violence.
I'm really glad to see him come out and give in his own words his support of Israel. I had worries about him on this issue before but I'm a little relived to see him getting interested in Israel and I think it's important for any presidential candidate to come out and give 100% support to them and and show the U.S will always be with them regardless of any leadership change here.
Hah, yes re: the shadow. I have no doubt whatsoever that the conspiracists will make a big deal out of it, completely ignoring that the shadow is from the man who is actually standing behind him next to the flag.
why because a man who actually tells the truth actually tells it like it is..there will be peace and hope again in this country. whether you like it or not..get use to it.
I support Obama 100% for this nomination, and for the White House - it doesn't mean I have to agree with everything he does and says.
There is ALWAYS issue when someone unwaveringly supports ANY government without question (ie: GWB? anyone??) - and this message of unquestionable solidarity to the state of Israel is contradictory to Obamas previous messages of questioning authority, and doing what's right despite whos feet you step on.
I concur. I support Obama and will be electing him on November (unless he manages to mess up big-time between now and early June), but it's important as a human being to always be willing to question everything, even a leader you respect and admire. He's not without his faults.
As a Jewish-American and a grandson of Holocaust survivors with many relatives in Israel, I'm very moved by Senator Obama's heartfelt sentiments expressed here. Even though I plan on voting for Senator McCain this November, I think all of us can transcend party politics to thank Senator Obama for his strong friendship for the Jewish state and love of the Holy Land.
Well I can't say I agree with your choice to vote McCain, but thank you for posting your comment anyway. I think the rest of us Obama supporters should NOT vote down this comment. Obama would surely agree with the idea that Republicans are opponents, BUT NOT ENEMIES. That somebody from the other side can see the wisdom and genuine good will from Obama vis-a-vie Israel speaks well of our man Barack. And also of the person who posted the pro-McCain comment.
Amen.

this is certainly not political pandering. this is Barack expressing his genuine unwavering support for Israel. any jew who listens to this speech and continues to have negative feelings toward Barack needs to have their head checked.

I look forward to the day that Israel grows into a country with open borders for all people, the capital of permanent world peace for thousands of years to come. I find it very very sad that some American religious mainstreams actually look forward to war in Israel- calling it armageddon. It seems very doable that Obama will get Hamas to recognize Israel, and goodwill reciprocated to Palestinian people- they are the only people taking the brunt- not any other muslims in the world.

jajmu 3 years ago 2
I'm a BIG Obama supporter and I know that politically he needs to ensure the people of the US that he supports Israel, but I'm disappointed. There's no reason he can't celebrate the country while discussing its imperfections (just as he doesn't shy away from saying the US is imperfect while praising it) and expressing sympathy for Palestinians. Particularly irking is the line about securing peace for Israeli children that fails to mention Palestinian children.
stepsofthepalace 3 years ago 3
Obviously there are no Palestinians in the audience.

I wonder.

Barack supports zionism and the state that has abused the Palestinian people? This is not exactly change, I mean Clinton and Carter at least tried to keep peace there and create treaties, Obama flat out supports Israel. . .
sparrowking999 3 years ago 2
it is sad that in the midst of Isreal independence you did not highlight the suffering of the Palestinian people, whoses land was taken from them by Jewish settler, you make mension of the raining home made rockets of hamas, but never highlight the years of economic and land depravation and deep prejudice that the palestinian has endured.
tibbsn 3 years ago 25
the speech was about Israel's independence, not about all the wrong things Israel is doing. Second the jews that created Israel were palestinian first if you know your history. The Ottoman Empire chose to side with germany, so ofcourse when they lost the allied powers would take controll of that land and do with it whatever they will. Not to mention look how small Israel is. Look how much more land the muslims have, and the other arab states mistreat the palestinians aswell.
samiswilf 3 years ago
1/1 tibbsn etc..--Once again apologists for the Palestinians show their ignorance of the history of the region. Let's set the record straight. After the break-up of the Ottoman Empire the Palestinian Mandate came into being. 80% of that land was given to the Arabs by Churchill in 1922, comprising Trans-Jordan & today's Jordan, where most Palestinians live. The other 20% was divided between Israel & the Palestinians in 1948. 10%of the original land, a thin sliver, became Israel.
clearvision12 3 years ago

Fritzane 3 years ago
I'm starting to wonder will the Palestinians ever get any representation or will they continue to be treated like sub humans.
Those who justify Americas stance with Israel by pointing to the actions of Hamas must understand what 60 years of brutal oppression does to you.
And that the Palestinian people have had enough of being terrorised and oppressed forced to live in what is an open prison.
In desperate times they turn to desperate measures and that is why Palestinians turned to Hamas.
shocco 3 years ago 2
Americans are so oblivious to what's really going on in the Middle East. Even Obama has no idea of what's going on in Palestine between the Israelis and Palestinians. Isn't ironic how the Jews suffered in the Holocaust but then the Israelis torture and kill the Palestinians without remorse. On top of that, America is the only country in the world who really supports what Israel is doing: getting rid of the Palestinians.

Bracus72 3 years ago 2

Peace

It is this mood that confronts a candidacy that provides hope for a better future, the very foundation of our country, with the very tactics he tries to eradicate and unfounded incredulity, not because he does not have experience to make it happen, but because of the belief of: "A better future? No, not in this country! He's so naive. We can't make that for ourselves and become racially, religiously, and ideologically unified!" Yes we can.
abhorrapandidiocy 3 years ago
He should not be judged based on ridiculously loose connections that are deviously scrapped up in an effort to find some excitement or flaw. He should be judged not on his experience and ability to be politically expedient, dirty, or Machiavellian. he should be appraised based on his inherent judgment, his clear view for the country, and the mood he would bring to the country. Kennedy brought one of idealism, Bush brought one of cynicism with his corruption

I am the son of a rabbi, and I am an ardent fan who is volunteering for Obama this summer! How can you talk about Israel, without once mentioning Palestine? Securing peace for Israeli children? They're not the only ones that live on this land. Statistically speaking, the vast majority of deaths, poverty, and displacement are Palestinian.
Asskickr36 3 years ago 13
I agree. This is something that pervades all the contenders for president this election year.Although I still think Obama can make real change since he is willing to hold talks with even those America considers their enemy, like Hamas. That's a step in the right direction. But I wish there was more talk about innocent Palestinians that are caught in the cross fire.I believe if the Palestinians had economic security, terrorist organizations like Hamas would not be welcome by a overwhelming majority
speakupforjustice 3 years ago 4
Bullshit, we talk with Hamas, we justify their authority, we legitimatize their rule. If bring them to the bargaining table, they'll do just that: they'll make (perhaps) a deal with America and Israel. Israel can't negotiate with terrorists. Economic security sounds fine, so encourage Palestinians to work for their state. There are plenty of options instead of resorting to terrorism; of course, the decision to be a terrorist seems pragmatic, but in these times, step outside of yourselves.

please...america supports Saudi. Saudi buys bombs and not hospitals for palestinians. america buys bombs for palestine.

I'm really glad to see him come out and give in his own words his support of Israel.
LMartella 3 years ago 17
I concur. I support Obama and will be electing him on November (unless he manages to mess up big-time between now and early June), but it's important as a human being to always be willing to question everything, even a leader you respect and admire. He's not without his faults.
