@finalman82 thats still no where near my Mazda3. My dad has a 944S and I drive it/work on it and am trying to learn as much as I can about them so during/after college I can have a 951 and do most maintenance on it. I just wondered if Insurance was insane.
@finalman82 that's just not fair. my insurance for my MINI is like $200 a month and I have no claims at all! I guess i'm 17, but still pretty damn ridiculous.
wheel hop bad at first lol, but damn these things really do get up and go. im a muscle guy, but ive always respected porsches and european and german cars. damn ive really underestimated these cars though
Nice car and I guess you were looking for an all traction takeoff to save tires.. I've learned to buy stocks in rubber because of my car but then again I drive a 94 Vette :}...
I have a 944 for a first car. But its not the first one in the family, My dad had one a few years ago so i know all about them. I had to worked over 12 hours a day under the counter between two jobs to get the money for it. but it was all worth it :)
dont lose faith, be smart and find a mechanically sound one. My second car was an 84 944 and it need an interior rebuild. After only $300 in interior parts which i shopped smart for, and the initial 1700 for the car with only 109,000 on it, it was a nice car.
A 944 for a first car? Be careful and research what you are getting into. Anyone that tells you that these cars are cheap to maintain has never owned one or not for very long. They are gorgeous cars, and since I am 40 years old, they are very nostalgic to me. I have owned them for 15 years. There are tons of them for around $2500 in bad shape. Buying one of these for a parts car was one of the best investments I ever made. Transmission alone recouped most of my money.
yeh thats what i was planning on doing and my neighbor up the street races porsche and were friends so ill prolly have him do most if the work on the car..or at least until i learn what im doing
They are great cars, your right. I do all the work to my car, that's the only way I could afford it. Timing belt, water pump, engine seals, transaxle..... No problem. The 944 and 951 have been a real joy to own.
absolutely right. there are only a handful of 4 cyl. cars in the world that actually sound nice. i'd probably include the e30 m3 and MB 2.5-16 cosworth in that exclusive list, or the lotus 340r (not many know about that one). Turbo 4's are easier as far as turning out a decent sound from them since the turbo helps deepen and silence the exhaust note. I'd probably put the lancia integrale up high on the list as one of the best sounding turbo 4's
Be careful the axle shafts bolts break really easy when you drop the clutch like that; The good thing is that they are about $7 each, the way I see it... ...cheap fun!
Love the sound man. I just got a 944s2 and would really like to put a nice exhaust on it. I just installed an autoathority chip and a cold air k&n intake. Whats the exhaust you have or what would u recomend?
hey are those the 18" porsche turbo twist rims?? I have a chance to get them for my 1987 porsche 944. Did you have to do any custom work to make them fit like rolling the fenders. What is your tire size??
I can get the 8x18" et 50 fronts
and
11x18" et 45 rears
would those fit on my car no problem?? Thanks
Nice car btw!! It sounds good and is looking good too!
Hey man, awesome sound, I really hope mine will come out similar like yours. When you have some spare time please record the sound from inside the car, I`d love to hear that.
What about highway noise, is the ride quieter than stock when driving fast?
I love that burble, it sounds like it`s a 6 litre engine:>
The entire set up was about $750 to $800. That includes parts only. I am lucky enough to have a friend with a mig welder so I didn't have to pay any labor. It took some work and removing some heat shields to get it just right but well worth it. I also added a 4" flexible coupling coming off the exhaust manifold with reduced a significant amount vibration thoughout the car.
@MazdaXmonster seeing this was 7 months ago... is insurance on a 944T expensive for a teen?
MangoSmoothie16 6 months ago
@MangoSmoothie16 Insurance on my old 944T with comp and collision (in Hawaii) was about 75/mo. I was 21 with a couple of points on my record.
For a teen I'd assume it's a bit more. Maybe teetering near $100

it is so hard to get 4 cylinders to sound nice, but here is one example of someone who pull it off nicely.

sounds great but one thing ive noticed is that all 944's turbo or not sound the same regardless of what exhaust you put on them...
toyotafreak2000 2 years ago
ive heard a few 944's that sound different, turbo and non, the turbo i want to buy sounds sick, still has a low tone but nice raspy sound at high rpm
