To clarify for those who didn't get it after the video response, there is one train going back and forth between the two towns, and the request to get to that town by tomorrow would require taking that train before it pulled out of the station "today" (hence, "is a mile along the way"), but that it will return tomorrow night. If the person had taken that train the previous day, "yesterday," under the same circumstances, they would have completed the round trip when the train had just come back.
And, to clarify further, as the character limit cut me off, but I didn't want get, "Corrected," by those who's understanding is solid at the beginning of the song, the other town discussed is called, "Morrow," hence the joke on the two phrases, "Go to Morrow," the town versus, "Go tomorrow," the day after today.
