i almost cried looking at their little hands shaking and shivering to get the shot right... wft why do they make me so emotional?!?!??!?! also, maybe was already linked here but can anyone give me tips on how to teach this to my rats (besides having to make a similar playground)?
No one realize that these rats are food deprived (0:12) and are starving, so they are only "playing" this game as that is the only way for them to get more food and not die. There's nothing "fun" about watching starving rats competing and trying so hard to get more food, especially when the idea behind this is just for show... showing how operant conditioning works in research. Students can learn about that in textbooks without sacrificing the lives of these rats.
@FuzzyPeachea firstly... food restricted is not food-deprived...... When you allow lab rats food ad lib, they normally get VERY fat and will over eat. Also, the rats do look well groomed and at (3:08) you can see they are healthy and happy. Food-deprived (or starved) rats would be much more aggressive than that...... :P
how do i train them to do this? i mean, do i have to close them in a tank like that with similar feautres so and use my hands to show them how to put ball in basket? could i get some tips please?
@TheRushingWind yeah, god forbid a couple of female rats should get to play then get treats for playing and attention when play time's over. We all know how rats hate that.
@1HollywoodStar1 those are only temporary cages, so the rats will only be in there whilst they wait to play basketball, then will probably be returned to their actual cages once the game finished. :)
@1HollywoodStar1 we keep our rats at school in those size cages, i think the small cages r cleaner then the big ones haha, but i keep my own rats in big cages, n rats wont do stuff ifn thy in pain, thy actually luv learning tricks and of course getting treats=) you aint gata worry bout em
@skate4life7000 correction- 'YOU stupid'- you hate WILD rats. who doesn't? but these are PET rats. ones that have been domesticated. they DON'T show up in toliets
thedreamer001-you obviously don't understand a lick of psychology and the reason behind conditioning these rats; as well as how conditioning applies to behavior modification. Go read some books before you talk smack on psychology.
@thedreamer001 you do realize that these behavioral principles have been researched on humans time and time again? the subfield of applied behavior analysis is dedicated to using these findings and applying it to human behavior in order to improve the lives of people. in fact, this is the treatment of choice to help individuals with autism, as it is the only thing that has been proven to make a difference.

Next thing I knew they'd deleted my toons, rolled their own, max leveled and were raiding.

What the audience does not realise is that the rats were conducting a study on human responses to animal behaviour.
The humans scored fairly low as all they could do was clap and make laughing and whooping noises...

All these psychoscientists do is stupid experiments with disgusting rats and hardly any of their findings converts to humans as well.
It is time to understand this research is stupid and fruitless and it is time to change it.
