  • A very racist film which funded apartheid.

  • anglo saxon bob it was a great movie ..and maybe 'very english' but the fact is ;the wild geese ' were an irish mercenary group that fought ..i think for the french in the 1700's or maybe later ... still one of my favourite films ever, and thanx to yorkie for postin it

  • Such a great action pact film, i hate to say it, But! they really dont make like this anymore.

  • NICE job! Well done!

  • theres some saddos on here

  • One of the finest military movies ever made featuring the best talent in the filming industry of the time, of all times.

  • @RichardElden No the only evil person here is you for saying such a thing about anyone.

  • Fantastic film great stars - thank god they didnt go with the original lineup, (search wiki) fantastic song too - hits you in the heart. Previous poster must be evil to suggest burton die of lung cancer.

  • What a classic film and for me one of the best.

  • Was the medic gay?

  • @showtime501st yes he was, as was the actor who actually played him.

  • One of few films that is better than the book. Armatradings song only adds to the experience of Burton, Harris and the ruthless Bond Moore could've been (among others). Just awesome.

  • In my view, this is the best movie ever made!!. I first saw it 30 years ago as an 8 year old and it remains my all time favourite movie to this day. THE WILD GEESE - THE BEST ******* MOVIE EVER MADE!!!!

  • I loved this movie 15 years ago and still love it today... this song that came on at the closing credits stills sounds great as it was 15 years ago.... Go Joan

  • with this film i can smell the good old days

  • Ignore comments by RichardElden, he has already been banned once under the name Juan Macready, the guy is a total twat.

  • the origional expendbles this is awsome

  • the origionalexpendbles this is awsome

  • When I saw this film at Southend Odeon, when the credits rolled at the end, everyone started to file out, as you would expect. Then this song started, and everyone filed back in again and stood there, in silence, listening to the music. This is the only piece of music I've known have that effect at a cinema. I'm really pleased to find it on youtube.

  • roy west

  • RICHARD ELDEN IS WRONG. BRITISH MERCENARIES HELPED LOTS OF AFRICAN COUNTRIES OUT OF THE SHIT WITHOUT PAY. KRUGER WAS RIGHT THOUGH. WHEN WHITES LEFT, THEY STARTED TEARING EACH OTHER APART.

  • @RichardElden SHUT UP, BRITISH MERCENARIES HELPED LOADS OF COUNTRIES. NOT RACIST AT ALL, HOW CAN IT BE WHEN ITS FOR THE FREEDOM OF AN AFRICAN NATION. KRUGER WAS RIGHT IN THE FILM THOUGH BY SAYING THAT '' NOW US WHITES ARE GONE, YOUS ARE TEARING EACH OTHER APART''.

  • love diss film im 34 now and as a kid i would watch this movie everyday my dad has the original dvd copy but he wont loan it too me:(

  • Awesome film. Very English.

One of my all time favourites.

  • That was strangely inspiring, nice editing

  • Outstanding tribute to such an awseome film, hats off to you!

  • @Ralphy63 The Wild Geese has always been 1 of my favorite movies. It's based in part/inspired by "The Congo Crisis" (1960–1966). I also like "The Dogs of War (1980). There really aren't enough great "Mercenary" movies out there. I really wish they'd make a movie about the 1981 failed coup attempt of Seychelles, perpetrated by S. African,"Mad Mike" Hoare. In the Wild Geese, Burton was patterned on Hoare, a mercenary who fought in the Congo Crisis & was also a technical adviser for the film.

  • Saw this as a young boy, it made me want to join the army :D

  • This was my Dad's most beloved movie, he was a veteran and we use to watch this movie all the time from when I was little until the last days that he was alive. When he died I got the scene of the geese flying across the sun setting in the beginning of the movie tattooed on my chest directly across my heart in honor of my father. This movie holds alot of memories for me....very good memories...

  • @busemo Hey thats such a great moving story and cool thing to do.

  • @busemo Very touching story. Thanks for sharing it.

  • this

  • This movie was just plain awesome. All-star cast, good story, very realistic and emotional. I'm a Yank and I just love this film. I give it a 5/5

  • the first ever movie that i watched with father and mother ,and i was very young then but loved the movie

  • The best war movie i have ever seen. It has so many hidden meanings.

From soldiers looking for a place in a world that dont respect them.

  • Brilliant, brilliant film.

  • great film

    great song

British army best in the world

  • my uncle was a mercenary in africa and hje told me it was based on a true story.he made a lot of cash in that particular job.although the british wont help any ex army of british decent if thier caught doing private work

  • a great song

  • The very first video cassette i ever bought was The wild geese almost 28yrs ago now, must have watched that film 100 times, love it....think i was 10yrs old at the time when i did:) Bloody Simbas! Hated 'em!!!!

  • You accuse me of being old scholol but Richard Burton looks "gay' holding anything but an MP-40!

  • one of the good great mercenariy movies i ben waach

  • I saw this movie just before I went to boot camp in 1979. Great memories.. Thanks for posting

  • Does anyone know who the origina" "Wild Geese " were? Hint: They were Irish..

  • this film pulls on all the emotions, totally brilliant, it must rank as one of the best warm films ever

  • @joanshaws You said it.

  • @joanshaws

Yes, it does pull on the emotions. I was just thinking about it as I watched the video. Pretty sad film, I've seen it many times in the past and it really does pull on your emotions....I think I jave it on DVD, free with the Mail on Sunday a while back.

  • watched it way back when it came out, thought it was so good to see real fire fights, not that john wayne stuff with only bad guys getting it, or rambo stuff.

honor it was and is to own this movie and watch it on memorial day

  • i watch this film in 1986, cauze it was only showed in china after 8 years the movie was made

i escaped my junior high school class to watch it, then it became my all time favarite

  • GREAT MOVIE

    GREAT ACORS/WORLDS BEST

    GREAT SONG/JOAN ARMATRADING

  • i was one years old when this movie came out. didnt see it till i was five, now its the best old school action film in my archive. alright love bring your buns ill be here with morphine and bandages for you:)

  • Classic film. After watching one knows why Africa is never at peace. Greed of the western nations. very very nice movie.

  • Great song. I loved this movie as a kid. Didn't learn till later that "The Flight of the WIld Geese" had a deeper meaning - the departure of Irish mercenaries from their homeland. Pretty appropriate considering the movie was about mercenaries.

  • I think that priest has to be one of the best characters in any film, ever.

  • Awesome movie and kick ass song too. One my fave flicks.

  • Quality film - Quality song.

  • @GreenCommando1 2true.

    uk/usaboy.

  • @JuanMacready You twat, you hav'nt a clue

  • Get up you fucking abortion!!!! lol great line

  • @JuanMacready spoken like a child who leanred about racism today in school, maybe it was slightly racist it was still a better film that you could write/direct/produce,

and how is it racist exactly, stuff like this was happening at the time the film was set and if its shit why bother commenting

  • Right back at you, Selaxes. It was my privilige to meet some equally fine American uniforms in my time. Cheers cousin.

  • @JuanMacready Go away and enjoy your puberty and come back when your balls have dropped.

  • It has got to be the best opening song to a film

  • Good film apart from some of the paras wearing brown berets

  • The Greatest British war movie ever

  • Vive la mort vive la guerre vive le sacre Legionaire

  • Selaxes - Huh they would buy you a drink in Washington or New Orleans, or Boston, or San Fransisco and they would still have a blade to your back and you would not even know about. Go Bravo two Zero you scud busters.

  • im only 15 but i think this is a classic film

  • one of my favourite war films. first watched when i was about 10. love it.

  • So enjoyed the movie way back, own dvd and watch it once or twice a year thanks

  • good video. brilliant film. last time we saw some serious british acting kicking ass.

  • I watched this movie when I was about 7 years old. Haven't seen it in its entirety since. Back then I thought it was a simple war move. But now, knowing how the characters display and play out real-life demons: Booze, homosexuality, racism, etc. it is and was a brilliant piece of cinematography!

  • A blessing to watch, great acting.

and realism that most war movies fall way short of.

I own 3 dvd's of this show, I loan them out to young people who think a fire fight would be easy to live through.

  • In onore del grande FRANZ...

  • One of my all time favourite films.

  • Iknow this film and book well....that aside its a f****ing disgrace anyway you look at it zimbabwe today...mugabe out racists anyone in any sort of power today......it century 21 but he still steels his too young to have fought fanatics with the return of colonism bullshit...in 02 when most white farmers kicked [men who haveskills and experince large scale farming ops.....clearer thinkers in zambia and poor mozambique offered them land...hes a nerdy racist jackass destroying all[even tourism!

  • Even an American like me can love an awesome British action flick like this. Outstanding film, and a great cast.

  • @CruxisFire the last big star epic i think.now its a new world.

  • @CruxisFire You got that right, I'd put on par with the Dirty Dozen from the previous decade!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • More than a great film. Any one that's actually had the honor of serving will tell you. When it drops in the pot, it's all about the guys next to you, and reasons for taking up arms, politacally or for profit be hanged. And a cheery toast for those on the English side of the pond that have and still do wear the uniform. Served with a few of you guys in the sandbox. Damn fine soldiers!

  • God Bless from this side of the pond.

  • God Bless to you too, TalFerox! And Happy Christmas. Sorry about the long delay. Been away for a while!

  • from your comment on the wild geese question on jesse's head he has a para beret but why is it off green. couldn't figure that out. maybe you know. shouldn't it be red.

  • It's because Jesse was one of the outfit's NCO's. The officers used red. It was a fairly standard practice with a lot of merc groups in the day.

  • cheers.

  • @Selaxes You sound like a top Fella!! TAKE OF YOURSELF!!

  • bloody Good Film

  • Un film davvero bellissmo!!!!!Emozionante ed avvincente...Lo raccomando vivamente!!!

  • i remember those days, no lack or white, only green.

  • Lets face it people of the world: Nothing happens on this planet without the direct influence of combined international goverening powers and what they want us to see is all we'll ever see(as lay people)and do you think the normal everyday person will cange anything.. At my time of life I'd like to spend it on a dessert island: BUT.. I'd need my laptop, mobile phone, good cheap beer, a car, CNN, ipod... Oh sod it I'll just stay living in this goverment ratrap..!!!!

  • Christ Almighty! What do you think men have been doing since the begining of time????

  • Love this film and the soundtrack.

  • Rhodesia was sold out - tragic.

  • Iae, and look at the bloody mess it is today under Mugabe.

  • top soundtrack & film

  • this film is a classic made up when came out on dvd got the first day of relese alltime classic dont make them like this anymore

  • The Wild Geese 3 - 'Operation Mugabe'

Now, I'd definitely queue up to see THAT!

  • Hahahaha.

  • The flight of the wild geese brings a new hope--rescue from all this

  • an excellent film, Harris and his son is particularly moving. The interaction between the characters is very accurate and realistic.

  • :0)

  • Recently, we can never see movies like this..

Because diectors, actors, music composors and so forth..everybody in those days had done everything, full power their has got

for their passion for movies for entertaining

    people..

Now I never feel the above I wrote..

Now it is going to be just money..

  • This is my favorite film of all time. i love it. Sad, funny, touching, it has everything. i was in the SAS for 4 years and this sort of thing happens.

  • SAS, huh? Damn fine group! If you ever get to this side of the Atlantic, the beers are on me.

  • Aww come on if you were in the SAS you wouldn't be telling everyone here on youtube?

  • great when i watched this film i had a lump in my throught when rafor dies great film 10/10

  • I never will forget the ending, when Janders falls back on the airfield, shooten in the leg, yelling the name of his little son and Faulkner forced to kill him!! Unspeakable sad!!

  • For a few years I thought Harris' character was saying, " I'm ill, I'm ill! " :O) after watching it twenty more times, I figured it out!!! ... Then Burton becomes a new dad to Emile!

  • To those that fall for Rhodesia and I knew so well...

  • Indeed- respect to the Selous Scouts of Rhodesia, awesome soldiers....

  • Fantastic song...go JOAN!!! fab film too, one of my all time faves :))

  • A classic, can't compare to any of the new movies. If you like this you may like "Where Eagles dare" another Burton Classic with Eastwood.

  • @dessert57

For years I always wondered if Joan Armatrading was given much grief by her fashionable leftist crowd for making this song for such a politically incorrect movie.

  • Damn right mate,i hear they used to regularly carve up Mugabe's lot, damn fine soldiers, but then they were once part of the SAS.

I also hear that Mugabe was hardly ever in Rhodesia during the guerrilla war,he was hiding in neighbouring countries that were already independent, gutless little clown.

  • Indeed! There is a much evidenece available to support the argument that the Selous Scouts were amongst the finest of the world's Elite forces, definitely on a par with any British unit you care to mention. That just about says it all really :) The selection for the Scouts was absolutely ruthless & gruelling-there wasn't a single mother's boy amongst those lads! lol

  • 1: They were not part of the SAS but formed from BSAP SB. Although several 1 RSAS did join.

2: To be fair to that massive cunt. The Terrorist bases were based over the border, where else should thier leader be than at the HQ.

(Oh, I think the Scouts maintained a 66:1 kill ratio. Not bad at all.)

  • BSAP SB? i'm guessing that's the British South African Police,Special Branch?

  • Guessed right. They did some dodgy shit.

  • Makes the Selous Scouts sound like glorified Coppers.

Still a damn fine unit though. My Dad was a wartime Para vet at D-Day,he used to see the news regularly & watch their progress.

Lets face it,Mugabe & his clowns did'nt win anything, our own F*****G! government sold them out.

  • Yeah but the BSAP struggles to be directly compared to UK police units. PATU, Blackboots, etc.

  • Hey,i was kidding about the coppers bit.

Some of our coppers might think they're some kind of special forces, but they're not in the same league as the SAS or Selous Scouts,& never will be.

  • One of the best British action films ever made.

  • The "Mercenary" Movie

  • A great movie good musical score and a few funny lines delivered by Roger Moore

  • this song this movie just makes me cry no matter what when where i cry at this its very sad at the end. i got the movie in the paper the sunday paper and thought thats the saddest thing ever!.

  • well done...excellent tribute to a great film.

  • great film....i have seen it and i like it...

  • a verry beautifull film, the song who cry me at the end

  • i had a lump in my throat when he has to shoot him to have to do that must be horrible

  • Dad's Army

  • Really! Mine too... Cheers to your Dad.

    From Cmdr. Cavelson

  • No! Sorry it was my fault!! I understood that your Dad was a fellow from this kind of Army! You are no way insulting!

  • It's a film dude! I served in 2 British regiments. You?

  • My word! I haven't seen that film for years! I want to watch it now!

  • teil 2: There were promises made Plans firmly laid Now madness prevails And lies fill the air. What more, Oh What more What more can we do. What chance to make it last What more What more can we do.
  • good lyrics fultone

By the way This Movie is one of my BEST Movies in the Archives

  • Sad are the eyes Yet no tears The flight of the wild geese Brings a new hope Rescued from all this Old friends And those newly found What chance to make it last When there's danger all around And reason just ups and disappears Time is running out So much to be done Tell me what more What more What more can we do.
  • vielen vielen dank für diesen videobeitrag. den song von joan armatrading habe ich schon seit jahren gesucht.

  • Thank you yorkie 78!!

  • i think the end of this film puts a lump in anyones throat when falkener has to see janders son ,

  • yeah definitely,he has took look after him,he made the promise.

  • Great music,great moovie,great memorys

  • Can't remember how many times i've watched this film. Bloody brilliant though

  • Great music,great moovie,great memorys

  • Great song, great memory...

  • The priest in this movie was V Spielman's Dad in 'The Pianist' - great actor. Great movie. Sad. The interaction of J Limbarni(sic) and the Afrikaner at that tree are riveting. Fast forward from the 70s til today and the words are just as powerful. Thanks for the post.

  • Frank Finlay. Also the 'Witchsmeller Purseivant' in The Blackadder. By far his best role IMO!

  • Too true to life. The plot is Mike Hoare's insight into a better new Africa.

  • Stop it your breaking my wallet

  • The last scene Burton did shoot Harris..

I never see the scene without uncountable much tears..extreme bond there..

One more can we do see movies recently like'60~'70 this movie.?

One more I can do is continuing to love this

    movie..

  • If you read the book, it shows that Falkner and Sandy stay behind and keep the Simbas away long enough to allow the Wild Geese to escape!

  • Great movie

  • Saw this film with my dad years ago and it made an intense impression on me. Made a model same colours of the DC3 as a kid. dad did a tour in Algeria for French army and met Roger in PizGloria, Mürren, Switzerland,1990s

  • i know the singer is joan armatrading but someone knows what's the song title?

    thank you for help

    :)

  • The title is The Flight Of The Wild Geese.

  • you should see the part where the medic gets cut up into tiny peces and there all crowding round him stabing him to death gross

  • @candyeyedrocker

I remember seeing it when it came out. The ghastly gore was a bit too much for a thirteen year-old. All subsequent versions of the film on cable and VHS had the most gruesome parts edited out.

  • No way this is just a great action movie. I love the political subtexts. Every hue of murder and violence. White on white, Black on Black, White on Black, Black on white. And all because the business men are pulling strings and doing deals back at the club in Piccadilly. Love it. Joan Armatrading's song stops me dead everytime I hear the line "Sad are the eyes, yet no tears." Great clip, Thanks for posting

  • I hate CGI movies...blaaaaaa, look at the recent Star Wars trilogy, zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz, no feeling at all

  • ditto!

Joan Armatradding song is the bolloxs! she can sing ! much better than the dross you have to listen to nowadays!

  • rodger that!
