  • he rocks. tho I wonder if he suffers from manic depression considering how many people naturally can go 24 exercising non stop without sleep. ouch! he truly is a human dynamo, I just hope he doesn't burn himself out.

  • shit that is over 130 miles in a day!.

  • much respect to this guy, but dam, it must've been super boring running in place for 24 hours

  • @BurntLaces what is?

  • gstar8425 is right, the guy has superendurance because of his lactic acid abnormality, which means every next hour of run is not harder but easier for him he can run even faster, but this whole talk about proteins in diet bla bla bla is bullcrap.

  • Incredible athlete and an amazing person. Go Dean!

  • how is that possible??

  • proven to be fake

  • How fast is he going you ask? A hell of a lot faster than you would be going during your second, third, fourth, and fifth marathon in a row.

  • why are ppl hating on this guy so much? Who cares if he's not the flash at running. Who else has his same endurance? In fact anybody who saw the history channel could see this guy could litterally run forever if he could. Biologically speaking the latic acid that makes us fatigued increases while his decreases meaning he could actually run faster if he wanted to.

  • I agree. He's not even in the top ten of the ultramarathon racers of the U.S., men's or women's. Running slow has it's benefits even if it's not the greatest test in history. Prevention of injury, aerobic fitness, fat loss, continuous increasing of blood circulation.

  • At the time (2004), he was highly ranked and won the Badwater Ultramarathon in '04 - 135 miles through death valley in the Summer. It may be easy to minimize what it takes to accomplish that, but I highly doubt you or tylerks279 could run 135 yard in Death Valley when the temp is 125. Dean is somewhat of a poser and is no Scott Jurek, but an amazing athlete nonetheless.

  • this guy is a hero to me and all those monsters of endurance who like to take it to the next level.

  • what are you talking about that it "it helps you flick your feet"

flick your feet? you are an idiot! how about flick my middle finger in your direction.

  • Wow, that's freaking incredible. I thought 12 miles was good! That's what you call pushing the limits. Awesome, I am going to go run now! Short 2 miler!

  • He is one of the nicest most down to earth people I have ever met. I ran a marathon with him and he is just awesome!

  • Hey to those that calls him a joke. Stop being a clown trying to act smart here. Dean has done 50 marathons on different grounds and intervals for continuous 50 days in his Endurance 50. Running on machine yes, is indeed easier, but why not you try doing just 1 full marathon on it? Dean did 5 within 24hours by the way. So what did you contribute anyway?

  • he ran 300 miles at once so you all can shut your frilly mouths, go run 50 and see if you still wanna diss him, little fuckers

  • "Real ultra runners keep it quiet"

    you are such a hater

  • Hey "Prickturd" U Jealous twat! lol

  • He does most of his runs for charity so I guess he's doing it for attention and helping others at the same time. I think I'll do that someday.

  • Get a life? It's kind of hard to since we're already living. =/

  • runners don't run away from problems, they run with them and then take then on with a well thought out plan!

  • Where have you been all my life xD

  • ive been running, did a 20k yesterday

  • What have you accomplished that makes you not a loser?

  • He is somewhat of a poser, but he is still a great athlete. And by the way that female runner who beat him in Badwater (Pam Reed), also beat everybody (male & female) two years in a row (02 & 03). But Dean did win in 04...beating Pam by almost 4 hours in the process.

I don't think you would last in a long distance running event after you have been drinking all the Haterade.

  • i dont know if he is nessecarily a poser, i mean hes not the best out there but the book brought him alot of publicity and he's used it for a good cause

  • Yes, he does seem to be a genuinely good guy. I just think that certain people in the running community think he is a poser, or a publicity hound. But like you said, it's for a good cause.

  • What speed is this guy running at ?

  • @roborunner not very fast

  • @mooseman427 - you're missing the point completely. Strap on your shoes and take a shot. Ultra distance... figure it out.

  • @newmediasuit No, I get the point. He asked " What speed is that guy running at?". My answer is correct. Relatively, he is not running very fast. Obviously you can't run for 24 hours at a fast speed. I don't need to strap on my shoes and find out. You act like I was insulting the man.

However, it is true that I have more respect for actual good ultramarathoners. Dean Karnazes is just good at self promoting.

  • @mooseman427 - Got it. The short "not very fast" leaves the meaning open to interpretation, which clearly I got wrong. I would say that "not very fast" is, as you point out in your clarification, a relative measure. It did read as an insult, but clearly there was a running dialog and I missed the context. Cheers

  • @roborunner prolly on like 7 or 8.

  • @steve51865 what is a poser? someone who acts like something they are not. dean's experiences are not a figment of his imagination. whether or not he is the fastest really isn't the point.

  • @mbsojourner28 I would define Dean's "poserness" as the perception that part of his motivation for doing these types of events is to promote himself and get on TV. He comes across as having a game-show-host personality. Another motivation he has for this event is, I assume, charity. Either way, it is only the perception that some people have of Dean. So he may or may not be a true poser. Only he knows his true motivation. In the end, let's hope he raised money for a good cause.

    Cheers

  • Isn't it funny when someone makes a degrading or derogative comment on a professional? Especially when you consider that the person making the comment is in no position to criticize the professional? And they are likely to be immature teenagers that don't get much exercise? Funny Stuff :)

  • Id like to say that he is awesome. i got by booked signed and chatted it up with him.

  • This is a very good world class ultrarunning performance. Still quite far from the record. Which is over 7 marathons in 24 hours done on track by the guys like Yiannis Kouros. Treadmill is definitely easier.

  • real ultra runners?

does running 50 marathons in 50 days count as an ultra runner?

how about doing 10 marathons without stopping?

how about the fact that hes an amazing person who can run farther then most of us would care to drive?

    katiehascooties is definatly a fag

  • this guy is a joke. the real ultra runners are running western states.what a fag.

  • You're a fag. Dean can, and has done western states. God forbid someone do something different than western states. western states is weak when this years winner was finished in 16 hrs.

  • You obviously don't know anything about Dean. And I suppose you run nonstop 300 miles every day to and from work. And running is easier on a treadmill, but running 5 marathons on a treadmill? You think that's easy?

  • flick ur feet. flick flick flick flick. you are such a flicking idiot

  • How is he a joke? He has won the Badwater 135. Thats not a joke.

  • Dean has been doing it for about 10years. gets your facts straight!... you could say " real ultra runners do Badwater!" dont hate!

  • This guy has run the western states. Fag.
