Thank you for posting this. I have cried tears of joy thinking about the wonder and awe Frank's music brought forth in me as a kid. He exemplifies how and why a person must polish their gifts and offer them to the public fresh from the mind; as often as possible. You never know when you might drop dead.
@BachScholar You are welcome, since you are a pianist, I have a question..What do you think about Conlon Nancarrow and his relation to Bach in terms of temporal time changes and temporal relations?
My father always used to play FZ records on our living room stereo. I grew up with his music.
Frank is under-rated in many ways. I think because of the kind of music he played, he was labeled as too weird for most people's taste. Frank was so talented at arranging and composing music. He was able to make very complex musical ideas fit together seamlessly, and he executed his performances with style and without looking like he was trying too hard. Frank was an all-around incredible musician.
Fantastic! Everyone who ever played with Zappa just raves about him and about how much they learned, and these were creme de la creme musicians already. Love the way he says Frank was underrated as a guitarist. I don't think so George, but I have to agree that the band you were in with Zappa was his best. They COULD play anything.
It sounds like Zappa was incredibly patient with George Duke -- not a quality I associate with Zappa, whom I've always heard was demanding and rather dismissive of musicians who didn't want to follow his direction. Maybe he saw more in George than George saw in himself. And the results, of course, speak for themselves. Thanks for posting.
GEORGE DUKE IS THE GREATEST!!!!!

This is a wonderful interview.
Being at a Zappa concert was a real 'happening'!
Frank & crew never had an opening act (at least at any of his concerts that I attended).
They came out on time, and played for 2+ hours. It was great, everytime!

This is a fascinating video. I love Zappa and listened to him a lot in high school. I also saw him live in the '80s. Thanks for uploading!

Frank molded his musicians into better musicians. that's why Frank was so good.
He pushed himself too.

@dollhaus1
Frank pushed a lot of musicians beyond their Limits i saw Interviews of Terry Bozzio and Chad Wakerman and Ruth Underwood and they all basicly said
Frank pushed us beyond our Limits and turned us into better musicians through that
I also believe Frank practiced his guitar skillz MANY many hours per day since 1975
