the reason the fuel gauge is going whack is because the speed limiter cut the throttle to slow him down... why it said 210 km/h and didnt kick in till later, who knows.

The E39 B10 has no supercharger. Its a normally aspirated 4.6 ltr V8 with 347 HP (BMW used the same engine in the X5 4.6is), or its a 4.8 ltr V8 with 375 HP (B10S).

Originally Alpina modelnumbers showed what engine was used. "B6" was development 6 of the big straight-six engine, "C2" was development 2 of the small straight-six, "A1" was the first four cylinder etc.

That was too confusing and model names changed over time. Today a "3" in the model name tells you its a 3-series. "D" is diesel, "B" is benzin (petrol).

The first B10 came as both 5-series and 6-series (E28 and E24).
