All three videos of this match has one dislike. What the hell? This is a classic match! Wrestling clinic if you will. First there was Savage/Steamboat from Mania III and then you had Owen/Bret from Mania X. Why someone would dislike this match is mind boggling!!!
The ladder match between shawn michaels and razor ramon may have seemed more epic at the time because it was a new concept. Now that we've watched many epic ladder matches down the years if you compare the two matches, this one is far superier to the hbk and razor ramon ladder match. Both classics though.
Best brother vs brother match. This could never be done again. They tried with the hardys at wm25. They going to try it with the Cody and goldust... HOW GAY!!!!!
@Grimmy263 well i agree the hart vs hart is one in a million. i'm a fan of goldust and think he's a sound wrestler. if they are to do it then they need to do itm with a big push and not a 1 month thing
great match, two wrestlers that were probably at their primes. the match is very smooth (even tho they're brothers), and i only wish the final pin was a little better (if earl could have gotten around a little sooner). saw this match for the 1st time in years and didnt know who the winner would be, made the match that much better to watch. was surprised when owen won, and glad to see it. RIP Owen
When I heard Owen's theme at the beginning and end of this match, I got tingles. I still firmly believe that, had Owen been given more years, his legacy would eclipse even his brother's.
@tylerfromspace Doubtful, but after Goldberg's kick to Bret's head..Had Owen still been alive and wrestling he probably would've had the longer lasting career
Thanks for uploading this....this is my favorite match of all time. 10/10, pure technical brilliance from both of them. Owen was and is still the most underrated wrestler of all time. RIP Owen :(
I was a young teen when I saw this match, a younger brother even. I rooted for Owen here even though he was a bad guy here and I was validated when he pulled it out. In my mind, who really cares if Bret won the WWF title later? For me, it was the little brother besting the older brother. I jumped out of my seat when Owen won here. Too bad he ended up dying so young. He'd have been WWF champion for sure. Probably would have had awesome matches with Rock, Benoit or Jericho along the way.
@beeohthree sorry but I have to disagree here. Owen did not fit the mold of a champion IN THE ATTITUDE ERA. In the pre-Attitude era, he absolutely could have been WWE champion. But with the likes of Stone Cold, The Rock, HHH, Mick Foley etc., Owen didn't fit in the Attitude Era. He was the Ric Flair of the era. A great but forgotten wrestler. Let's face it, he was floundering as the Blue Blazer in his twilight days. He didn't ascend to the Elite status until he died.
@dciguy01 I agree with that to an extent. He wouldn't have been Austin or the Rock...but when he died he was only 34 years old. And he passed on before guys like Jericho or Angle or Benoit came in. The Blazer deal was a punishment, but I think they would have dropped it eventually. I don't think he would have been a mega-superstar, but I do think WWF/E could have given him a kind of "thank you" short title reign ala Christian's recent reign. And he was still a solid wrestler and good interview.
if this match were to have happened in the present day, smarks and the internet community would've pushed owen to the top, vince couldn't have denied him in this era.
there were always wrestlers that got royally shafted by vince. mr. perfect, rick rude, etc. but owen was clearly jipped the most.
bret hart is stupid! He taps out at 4:03 and no body talks about it because the match is not supposed to finish like that but who does such a huge mistake in wrestelmania?
@arbili789 Its not a mistake. Tapping out only came into fashion around the time Ken Shamrock came in and used the anklelock. Nobody ever 'tapped out' before then.
You're right he does tap out, but tapping out to a submission hold did not become a part of pro wrestling until MMA grew into popularity in the late 1990's. Until then matches only ended in submissions when referees signaled that a wrestler has verbally given up or sometimes shook their head yes. Specifically tapping out to submissions didn't become part of the WWE until Ken Shamrock debuted and wrestlers started submitting to his finisher the ankle lock by tapping out.
@darksideon you damned right. one of the greatest matches i've ever seen. we'll never again see two performers of this caliber going at it again, but at least we still have these videos. lol.
i just watched this whole match...Owen had the upperhand throughout the majority of it. this is coming from a Bret Hart fan. RIP OWEN. we miss you man.
@edinscot56789 This was during the days where tapping the mat didn't mean you submit, just used as selling the hold. I think tapping really became more of big deal when Ken Shamrock was in the WWE.
@edinscot56789 yeah he did. it looks like the ref was picking favourites. it was that same ref who prevented Terry Funk from winning the title from Hogan
My absolute favorite moment in wrestling history! Owen was awesome and you gotta love the King's commentary for this match. This was by far the best brother vs brother feud ever. It was the first since I started watching wrestling and quite possibly the first ever. Now every set of brothers end up feuding at some point. Its just boring and predictable now.
Theese were the days when wrestling was simply awsome....rip owen hart!!!

If they were going with Cody and Dustin, that should've started around the time Cody revealed the classic Intercontinental championship.

This match should be on a list of required viewing for any up-and-coming wrestlers. That's right, I said wrestlers.
Owen beats Bret in the middle of the ring, one two three. Bret knew it, too. This match put Owen on the spotlight where he belonged.
Kudos to Bret and Owen for telling a great story with this incredible match. Wrestling at its finest!
