I thought love for opera made one's soul nobler, but as I can see, people discussing here lack good manners as much as those anywhere else on youtube. I am really sorry for you.
Shut up, you friggin opera snob! You make us all look bad. Her voice sounded flat sometimes because it was just a huge sound, especially for a coloratura. And, fyi, Domingo has shitty technique. Just enjoy it for what it is or don't comment with negativity.
domingos shitty technique has allowed him to sing more roles in more houses with some of the most important musicians of the 20th and 21st century so i would love to have his shitty technique and with joan, her diction was always poor but the technique was excellent. she taught pav how to breath! but, domingo is a work horse with more musicality and understanding of music than most mortals! cheers
But ANY good pedagogic teacher will tell young students not to watch what he does because it's not fundamentally good singing. And if he's so fantastic, why are there good tenors who are able to maintain high through their eighties and he's switching to baritone in a year or two? He had a successful career, granted. My main point is just be positive with these videos. I'm SURE you can't do any better. Does it get you off to sound like a snobby know it all to people you don't know?
not trying to be a snob but your statement about domingo showed how much you still need to learn about singing.its ok NOT to know. believe me, there is lots for ALL of us to learn about opera and its facilitators.i hope ANY good teacher tells YOU not to try to sing like anyone other than yourself. teaching the voice is a blind instrument. NO ONE CAN TELL YOU how your particular instrument will work with wahtever technique.thats why its inmortant to have a HEALTHY tech. no matter what voice type
Ok...if you want to get technical, good teachers do tell their students to listen to other singers. You're not supposed to copy those singers, but learn from them. That's how we as students learn to differentiate between healthy and unhealthy sounds. If a young tenor asks his teacher who he should listen to in order to hear a good working technique according to what is accepted by the vocal world, you won't hear that teacher recommend Placido Domingo. He's not a good example of vocal technique
there is nothing technical with listening to singers. if you are listening to figure out what they are doing then you are getting nowhere listening to a sound that has been filtered through the recording process. NOT only do you loose the REAL sound but, you also loose any connection with the singers true technique. as with domingo, he not only has ONE of the best breathing technique to ever grace the opera stage but his sound still sounds healthy as ever at 67 cause i heard him last weekend.
Much greater music critics and teachers than you have said the exact same thing I'm saying. He's a good singer, but he doesn't sing technically correct. Period.
i do understand you position on this particular critical conversation. i do have to disagree with you and the better teachers and critics though. the ONLY thing that constitutes a GREAT technique is LONGEVITY! DOMINGO is MR. LONGEVITY! re-evaluate your associations with these so called better teachers and critics because most of them are ignorant when it comes to singing.especially opera singers! he is not a good singer.he;s a GREAT singer. good is villazon!who's techinique gave him 5 years!
I think you are entirely wrong. Performance observation can be one of the most beneficial learning experiences there is. While it is true that you should only ever try to have your own voice, there are some voice techniques that are UNIVERSAL, like proper breathing and sound resonance. I don't know how you expect to grow as an artist if you don't observe. It's also rather arrogant not to observe other singers. Maybe you should thouroghly
wow! it must of went WAY over your lil' head!! anyways, good luck with your UNIVERSAL technique! have you even heard of the the TWO schools of breathing? cause theres ONLY two! and what about passagio resonance? and its people like you that find arrogance in true information. bye!
Wow. I must have gone over YOUR head... You see... everyone must have proper breath support in order to produce sound... you can observe this from watching any good singer... and to think any differently is just plain FOOLISH. Like I said... there are some things about singing that everyone must do... and you are not exempt from any of that.
And why do my favorite singers make me ignorant I wonder...
stay away from false info. do yourself a favor and throw out all of your insider info. go and read caruso's method of voice production technique book written by his doctor Marafioti and then go on to manuel garcia's technique scales and voice excersises book and also try luisa tetrazzini and caruso's breath technique book.now, they are both of the school of pullin in the diaphragm and then releasing the pressure. i am from the school of appagare which is waht all tenors used after the 60's.
oh jimmy boy, how's singing going? still listening to ignant people? if you need a lesson i'll give you one for free. just put your stuff on your page and i'll comment.
also keep in mind that when the voice goes from bad technique or old singers singing when they are too old to sing, its the MIDDLE voice that goes first and not the HIGH notes! better get a new teacher buddy. good luck! if you mean SNOB to classify people who are true fans with true information then you are right!! im a SNOB and proud of it!!
if your teacher says not to listen to or look at LIVE recordings of domingo she/he should be fired on the spot!! where do you study and with whom?? you need to hook up with marlena malas from juilliard. she's healthy and wont give you bullshit answers. plus she a super good teacher for the begining tenor!! look her up!
Nice to hear these two together, he flew all the way to Sydney to wish her well on her last performance there, such was his respect and affection for her
Thank you for sharing this treasure!!! They are wonderful!
