It works but you have to get the tension on the screws just right and then make sure the xbox gets more air than it really needs when you use it.

i have tried the penny trick just like this on its inafective u should change the thermal paste on the cpu and gpu thats the real reason for over heating when u see that the thermal paste is so old and soild and not even really on the chip then u discover the true problem i have change the paste and it works just fine now if i can get a new disc drive and rf board im in bussiness

Everyone says this is caused by a problem with a heat censor..The old Philco color TVs had a simular problem,they got hot, shut them selves off, and on the back was a RESET switch you had to flip and then wait 30 minutes to turn the TV back on. I got fed up with that, Removed the circut breaker chip (AKA) shutoff chip and then it stayed on til I shut it off like it should have in the first place. So maybe you can fix a ShitBox360 in a simular way, Remove heat censor and auto shut off chip.

The reason this works is because the board inside the xbox bends once hot, the rubber blocks press up on board so that it wont bed as easily, the 3 red lights occour when the heatsinks arnt connecting properly to the chipsets... so placing these underneath make a snug fit and keep them pushed up, i also recomend getting a xclamp fix from youtube. Works a treat.

Do not do this with erasers, those chips he uncovered are the RAM, if the issue is the ram over heating, there is a much better way to repair it. The idea is to extend the surface of the chips to the metal casing of the xbox in order to use it as a sort of heat sink. Go to a computer shop and buy some thermal compound pads or small plastic heat sinks. They will do the job of moving the heat infinitely better than erasers and tape.

If it doesn't work at first, unplug the fan and let it overheat. When it over heats 2 red lights will blink. Turn your Xbox off, and then wait 20 minutes. Turn it back on and it might work...I just did this fix, and it has been working for me for a few days now, but I had to let it overheat and wait 20 minutes after I put the eraser on.

Here is the ultimate working fix.

Open the 360, locate the CPU. Remove heatsink and smear the CPU with crunchy style peanut butter (skippy or sunpat work best). Leave off heatsink and switch on 360. Wait for smoke to really bake in the peanut butter. It should smell like burnt toast.Next,and most importantly, use some wire wool to clean up the CPU whilst the unit is on. Sparks are normal. When the CPU is clean reassemble and voila.

It is now time to buy a real console like a ps3 or wii.
