I'm sorry, but this sucks. Just another example of someone thinking that just because their feelings are strong and significant that this means their writing is strong and significant. It's not. A weak poem and a spastic performance does not equal entertainment or enlightenment as far as I'm concerned.
This was played on "Women in Music" tonight on NPR, and I was inspired to look it up. I'm glad I did. The criticism I see here is shallow and shouldn't be considered... attention needs to be paid to the fact that this is a woman, part of a long line of women back to the beginning, who has learned to stand up, open her mouth and use her words to make her space. If we were all this brave the world would change for the better.
Saw Alix in performance last night in Narrowsburg, NY. Excellent! She did "Women Before Me" and, at the end, invited us to shout out women who have inspired us. Yes!! :)
She is awesome!!! Very inspring!!! It would be even more so if she didn't twitch around stage like she was autistic and make that horrid sound every time she took a breath. That was so distracting that I had to watch it a second time just to get the content of her message. I feel sorry for the crowd that probably missed her message due to her physical antics.
Extraordinaire performance que cet artiste exprime ,en tant que femme, non seulement dans son jeu mais son âme,nous, les femmes qui avons tant à donner et à dire pour faire grandir les hommes de demain!
i wonder were she got her wasabi shirt

You all applaud her... and that's nice and all. A very "female" reaction I guess.
But come on. You know you'd be dropping nickles and dimes in her coffee cup as she incoherently blabs on a street corner.
If you really knew someone like this, you'd be embarrassed to call her an aquintance.

"I was still sucking my thumb when I first sang, "We shall overcome.""
**********
Kudos!
Singing with a thumb in your mouth is nearly impossible. I just tried and trust me, it ain't easy.
This is one hyper talented lesbo we've got here.
But let's be honest, this isn't poetry. It's a speech.
TheEditorialist 3 years ago
It's called "spoken word poetry" for a reason.
Poetry is in the heart; it's the content, not the medium. Let's not be pedantic.

Kudos! This is one hyper-literal, hyper-dense bigot we've got here.
