I WISH TO ADD A COMMENT I FEEL IS VERY RELEVANT.CarnaticMusic has, not uncommonly, today come to be viewed as 'Brahmanical' (or elitist?).This is probably due to 'nonBrahmins' who do not come forwad much to learn and perform classical music nowadays.Don't forget the GREATEST MUSICIANS WERE NADASVARAM VIDWANS,WHOSE BREED IS NOW MADE TINY DUE TO DRAVIDIAN CASTE POLITICS IN TAMILNADU.There was absolutely no casteist discrimination in classical music until recently,as it is the expression of soul
What I meant to say is,a good looking person, if (s)he imbibes all the relevant qualities of good music from a good musician will be able to carry on the torch of the Guru, while his or her good looks can be some asset, too, from viewpoint of audience(a section). Classical music is, unlike other kinds of music, not concerned with physical glamour of stage, lighting, and performers. A talented student with natural gift of a pliable voice can scale great heights. RESPECT AND ENJOY GOOD MUSIC
That said, a good looking person, if (s)he imbibes all the relevant qualities of good music (mellow yet bold, laya, musical and lyrical accuracy, Bhaava abvoe all) from a good musician without good looks, (s)he has already laid a good foundation for entertaining and spiritually elevating the listeners, even while establishing a ethereal rapport with the divine through our great Carnatic music. Om Shanti.
I ENJOY LISTENING TO THIS SONG FROM THIS VID. The musician rendering this song is ...? And his photo is not shown. But no matter. If a musician is not naturally endowed with good looks, her / his music can sometimes be wrongly given lower marks, even as good looking people will be higher rated than they deserve to be, for their music.
The video will be especially useful as an aid to anyone who earnestly desires to learn this great composition of Muthuswami Dikshita. The lyrics of this Skt. number, as well as the notes on the Aarohana Avarohana of the Manirangu Raaga, and the rendering conforming to the pure musical phrases and laya, conforming to the composer's original indications -- are a good device used in this video. This method is worthy of emulation by other video uploaders.
