I have always fancied this song--since first I heard it, of course. Musically and lyrically it melds beautifully.

As regards the audience--I am no cinematographer, but I am fairly certain that the audience is stock footage. You can tell because though the creators of the video managed to give it a more dated look, the film in the audience clips is a bit fuzzier than that in the Morrissey/band clips. Judging by the style of clothes, I daresay the stock dates from the 70s or early 80s.
