Okay, people, I shall explain something. The reason the shoes are in fact pink is because ORIGINALLY they were going to have the shoes red, but since so much blood is involved with the shoes, they chose the color pink to contrast so it wouldn't all just blend together.

In all honesty, this is still one of my all time favorite Korean films, I love the ending.

The director based the story on an old fairy tale called the red shoes in which a girl was given a pair of magical shoes(cant remember why) that caused her to dance uncontrollably, so her feet were eventually cut off and she was given wooden feet. (theres also red shoes in wizard of oz)

I'll basically explain the setting of the story. The red(or pink) shoes attracts womans. If one woman takes the shoes and if somebody else stole it because she wants it, her feet will be cut off. And its feets gies sonewhere else.

@Sillilesshells Korean movie I Saw the Devil with actor Lee Byung Hun. It's about a psychopath killer. The movie's a bit over 2 hrs long and it seriously creeped us all out. My mom can't see a yellow taxi van without thinking there's a psycho killer driving it. It does have some nudity though. It's REALLY gory. It's scarier than any ghost/curse movie because you can imagine that there are people out there that are THAT psychotic.

First of all usa make way different style of horror most arnt even meant to be that scary compared to what japan makes. Heres the difference Japan does alot of ghost/ haunting/ cursed/ evil spirits stuff. America does alot of crazy killers that sometimes cant be killed of some murderer picking of everyone, and usually someone fights back. In japan horror they never end in well and helpless at fighting back.

ok guys, here's the answer: the original title in Korean is "The Pink Shoes (분홍신)", not The Red Shoes. I guess the Korean director didn't want to explicitly say the movie came from the famous fairytale, rather, more implicitly letting the audience learn in the movie. I'm not the director, so it's just my guess. Anyways, I wanted to say the pink shoes used in the movie was not a mistake but more of intention.

I love this Hans Christian Anderson fairytale. I recently saw a stage production of The Red Shoes, it was very well done especially when the Butcher cut off her feet. Our school also made a short film of this but the shoes were Converse - originally pink ballet slippers stained red with blood.
