I remember this show - Bonkers! It was a comedy variety show with the Hudson Brothers and Bob Monkhouse and a scantily-clad blonde who would say in a man's voice, "And now our guest star in the order of his/her appearence." And the ubiquitous wrecking ball that always terrorized Monkhouse.
Elaine was wonderful, but I think she needs some new backup singers. Those girls can't dance. There's something about them. Can't put my you know what on it.
@catdances Hudson Brothers thought they were the Beatles ha ha. 'So You Are A Star' could have been sung by John Lennon, 'Bernie' was like a Pepper-era epic, it's all there. I bet Ringo had to tell Mark to stop kissing his feet before they started work, lol.
She was a little known actress playing bit parts in West End Productions. Her big break came after Julie Covington declined to play the role of Evita which she recorded for a concept album. In a way, as it turned out, Elaine Paige defined and originated the template for the role of Evita on stage.

i saw Elaine Paige playing Norma Desmond I was blown away by the complexity of her character (not overly psychotic and not pathetic)

She was the "Evita" that all other Evitas are compared.

She's more famous in the West End for her stage work, best known on both sides of the pond for her work with
Andrew Lloyd Webber.
