  • Now I am very liberal, and I absolutely hate fox news, but this is one of those very rare occasions where they're actually right about something.

  • The thing they left out is, it doesn't matter if they are informed or not, they are part of this country and so they should vote. It's majority rule, what next, should we put a charge on voting? A test? It doesn't matter why they are voting, it just matters that they are getting their voice heard. Plus not everyone is exposed to the facts, maybe fox news should cover more of the issues and less time telling people that they shouldn't vote. They are a news station....right?

  • Absolutely. It should be a mandatory vote, and then all voices can be heard.

  • Well tell me how a country that lets people that don't understand the current issues in politics a well managed one?

  • Fox News is the most worthless news syndication on TV right now, but even they have good points sometimes.

  • i don't think that the question is "how informed is the younger electorate", but rather "how informed is the electorate in general"

  • FUCK FOX NEWS

  • Martial law for the ignorant is a government ran by the military. You all want the government ran your way so it benifits you, but give nothing back. We fight for this country and some die for this country, but yet have less rights then the lazy ignorant public. If you gave a military squadron thos same questions, i bet %90 answer everything right. give the power to those who know whats going on, and are willing to die for this country. you rely on the bias media, and no one station is better.

  • Your all morons, democracy never works, never has, never will, that's why we don't use it our self. look up the true definition of democracy, then look up the definition of republic. We are a damn republic. And i know i'm going to get some dumbass thats going to challenge my opinion with out looking anything up, but thats because %99 of the american people are lazy and ignorant and want people to think for them. Just declare martial law. at least most military personal know what is going on!!

  • I disagree, but not completely, a democracy is 'rule by the people.' Which we do by electing officials. It is the majority rule. I do agree that a republic also fits our government, we do elect senators and representatives to vote for us basically. So, we are not a true Democracy, and we are not a true Republic. So, I agree and disagree with you, maybe you should go back and look over the definitions you looked up though.

  • If you listened to your 8th grade teacher (by the way I am in 8th grade myself) then you would know that we do live in a (democratic) republic (and that does fit the definition of a true republic) A Democracy means that everybody votes and decides on every issue rather than having elected representatives that do it for them. The only reason Americans say they live in a Democracy is so they don't associate themselves with other totalitarian republics.

  • What are you talking about? I vote democrat all the time. Obama is a democrat and he is the leader.

  • utter ageist generalizations. i know tons of oooolllddd people who could also be considered too stupid to vote, yet this piece was just about us lazy, ignornant kids. John Stossel disgusts me.

  • It's an example. Do you really think he would won't uninformed old people to vote?

  • After seeing his logic, it stopped me in my tracks and made me realize that it's not a good idea to push somebody to vote when they otherwise would not have; it becomes an easy outlet for SENSATIONALISM: people who vote for the sake of voting are drawn to easy answers peddled by sensationalist people to get a good cheer but hardly achieves a sound solution.

I would never discourage you to vote if you want to, but the difference is that I will also not ENCOURAGE you to vote if you don't want to.

  • Stossel makes a VERY good point, and one that most people here seem to miss.

He's NOT excluding people from voting, or arguing that it's better to have people not vote. He opposes what popular media wants us to believe: here, the opposite of the idea that it's better for ALL, even the apathetic or the uninformed, to vote.

He has a keen eye for identifying issues that we accept as obvious (even I was thrilled to see such an enthusiasm for more people voting) but has easy-to-miss side effects.

  • And the best response to this clip?

    /watch?v=8tsEUrEtzlQ

Stossel gets slapped in the above-cited clip better than the redneck wrestler who floored him.

  • take your pedofile mustache and fuck off

  • bhowe34, You're the shining example of a person whose right to vote should be discarded/burned/nullified. You're a dumb mongrel with a low IQ.

  • thats kind of funny dumbass since i'm not voting anyway, and i love how you to try to judge me like you know me, so i'd say you're the stupid piece of shit, but thats just my opinion.

  • Of course not everybody pays attention, just ask the 25% of America who still approves of Bush!

    But what's Stossel's answer? Monarchy?

  • Or ask many of the new young inspired voters a few questions about our government and country. They are largely ignorant. I saw the whole special; no suggested monarchy it just opens some light on the negative side of these voter drives.

  • It doesn't bother me to see advocacy groups getting their people registered, but I understand what you're saying.

    As Churchill said:

The best argument against democracy is a five minute conversation with the average voter.

  • compared to the 9% who approve of Reid and Pelosi?

  • Touche. 50% hated them to begin with, then they passed warrantless surveillance on Americans, caved on torture (as did McCain!), refused to impeach or even censure over DOJ or a million other crimes... unbelievable boobs. I'm looking forward to a new direction.

  • Fixed Noise get off youtube!!!! This shit is disrespectful

  • (reply to bigje2008)

Okie doke Big Je; be part of the crowd that's afraid of Fox News. Lol. They(Fox News) constantly has two opinions on almost every subject they talk about. When I go back to CNN, NBC and other news stations, they hardly do that- once and a while they do, but not enough consistency with it. They usually have the anchor, and then a guest with the viewer's feeding off the one guest's opinion. So when I watch NBC or CNN, I feel uncertain if I got all the sides.

  • Lmao at XaxversSecretary -- are you serious? Are we watching the same channels? It all comes back to facts. Which New organization is more factual consistently? If your answer is fox then you need a second and a third opinion. Fixed Noise is the most distorted organization to ever air. Why do you think they feel the need to keep on reiterating "fair and balanced"? Why is their always people protesting outside of their building? Make no mistakes people -- they ARE on the republican payroll!!

  • What about the older people that RECOGNIZE FACES but don't recognize how incredibly dumb the candidates are?

  • FAUX NEWS: We Distort, You Comply!

your official source of government news...

  • Whats so funny about this is what is really important to most American people is at the lower right hand corner.

  • I'm sure that this was common knowledge to us informed people. We knew that the young people can't be bothered with something as "boring" as voting. But what an eye-opener it is to see what young people don't know! They knew who Judge Judy was but not Sarah Palin or Dick Cheney?!? It's so sad but not unexpected.

  • "...I don't see how their votes help our democracy."
