@Promodelred manual is way better! I lost a race to a rice burner in a STI in my 2000 911 Carrera because the god damned thing doesn't shift until 1-2 seconds after I bush the button! It's so much slower!! I feel I could go faster if it was manual.

As a current owner of the E92 M3 it certainly is an awesome car and a complete all rounder . Friends of mine who are 911 owners admit that when it comes to handling and controlling that power the M3 is easier and more advanced . Don't get me wrong I love the 911 but on a lesser budget the M3 is quicker on country roads and a circuit compared to the 911 and some of the Aston Martins ! A great car awesome speed and handling and horrendous fuel consumption....you can't beat the Germans !!

@mtross70 go with the e92... it will be the last "Natural Aspirated" Engine... meaning pure with no turbos or supercharged. The new m3 will downgrade the engine and turbo it.... even though that's not bad, it won't be the same in my opinion.
bmw is going with the turbo for more hp and torque for less money. turner motorsportsdotcom has a chip that will get an extra 45hp out of the 4.0 DOHC . the state i live in doesnt check for emissions so i can use it. i heard the new m3 will be lighter and more powerful but i do agree with you about the 4.0, it sounds and revs insane. when is the new m3 going to be released?

It might be a 911 Turbo Competitor with that much torque.... but that is a huge jump going from 4.4 sec to 3.4 secs 0-60. I am guessing they will put it just below 4secs to keep the value of the e92
what's good about the turbo is just add a few more psi of boost and i get my 3.5 seconds to 60 no problem especially with the DCT. I hope they can make the car a little lighter, lets say 3500 lbs
@mtross70 sorry for the late reply . The E92M3 is in my opinion a far better car , I've reached speeds in excess of 160mph and it feels as if you're doing a 100mph . Although I do admire the 911s the M3 is certainly the quicker car , that 4 litre V8 simply oozes power and the handling is superb I mean when you get bikers putting their thumbs up in admiration I think says it all !!!
the vette is very uncomfortable and beats you to death great power and lots of grip but not good handling. the suspension doesn't communicate to the driver or inspire confidence and it tramlines all over the road on uneven surfaces. the car is great for the track but not the road. GM has to make better suspensions then they wouldn't have to use 2 foot wide tires and a 12 foot wide rearend. this philisophy makes for great performance and keeps the cost down but the downside is a terrible ride.
I would take the M3 of course. I am a BMW fan and I have to admit that the Carrera is a very great machine but im really really sick about it´s design that has barely changed in 10 years.

I agree about the wanting a clutch and a shifter for a sports car, but you have to understand that to get the best out of your car, the SMG's, DKG's, PDK's, DCT's, and etc of today are so advanced that they over shadow the good ole manual.
Believe me, the next car I get will be a manual. But for circuit racing and drag racing, its proven that the auto is faster than the manual. Unless you have enough power to compensate for the time lost when shifting. (I.E ZR1, Vipers)
Of course, to get better at anything you have to practice. Im not saying I would rather have an automatic over a manual in my sprta car, not at all.
But the majority of the fastest time on any race course in the last few years has been by a Dual Clutch or very good automatic transmission. And yes, these transmission's are very, very expensive. But if you can afford a car that has one, you better know the risks or youre a moron. I guess you get what you pay for.

I would take the M3 of course. I am a BMW fan and I have to admit that the Carrera is a very great machine but im really really sick about it´s design that has barely changed in 10 years.

This is UTTER BULLSHIT! Why are cars so damn cheap in America? Australia's dollar is now worth more than the US yet an M3 is $160,000+ here and only $73,520 in the US and this 911 is well over 200k here. It's a surpise that I see so many C63's, M3's, Carrera's etc around here...

@mdr279 The US dollar and Australian dollar are almost exactly the same 1.01 US to 1.00 Australian. The reason for the difference in price is the huge Australian import duty on foreign cars. This duty was put in place to protect Australia's car industry, and has probably done that quite nicely. But the cost to Australians is that, if they want something other than a Holden, they pay about 200 - 250% what the rest of the world pays for their cars.

@phugwad Yes that's all true about the import duties. Labour in Australia is just too expensive and if there weren't those duties then Holden might be very uncompetitive. However, I still the luxury brands charge us more basically because they can. The Australian economy has been doing very well for a long time and didn't even go into recession in 2008/09. It's also been interesting to note lately the amount of popstars/personalities touring here from the us- cashing up I guess...

@kotafey M3 has 2 modes - Burnout (which is what he did (stop the throttle fast), and proper launch (slowly fully depress the throttle) ... however burnout looks better :)

I agree about the wanting a clutch and a shifter for a sports car, but you have to understand that to get the best out of your car, the SMG's, DKG's, PDK's, DCT's, and etc of today are so advanced that they over shadow the good ole manual.
Believe me, the next car I get will be a manual. But for circuit racing and drag racing, its proven that the auto is faster than the manual. Unless you have enough power to compensate for the time lost when shifting. (I.E ZR1, Vipers)

When these new systems mess up, the owners will be shitting themselves because of the repair bill. A complex system is not always the better way.

Of course, to get better at anything you have to practice. Im not saying I would rather have an automatic over a manual in my sprta car, not at all.
But the majority of the fastest time on any race course in the last few years has been by a Dual Clutch or very good automatic transmission. And yes, these transmission's are very, very expensive. But if you can afford a car that has one, you better know the risks or youre a moron. I guess you get what you pay for.

I'd love to have a new 911.2 Carrera S with the PDK, Sport Chrono, and of course, the paddle's on the wheel; fuck the buttons. Then, I'd get the Fabspeed performance upgrade pumping output to 415 hp. That's plenty of oomph for an everyday sports car. Love it.
