once i had an awesome castle in this game but a few of my dwarves died in a ambush attack by goblins and i atom smashed their corpses and then their ghosts haunted my castle and sent everyone insane. :[

Nice video :) Question: it looks like you used some sort of undo tool when laying down the rooms to be dug out. I just started the game a few days ago, so could someone point me to that tool?

@Bunnehsayroar Try and generate a smaller world or reinstall dwarf fortress and move any saves from the old to new if you want. Other than that maybe it's a problem with your computer because generating maps is processor intensive.

If anyone is still wondering how in gods name to play this game, check out a few DF Tutorials. Most of them are quiet good, and there is even a guy on youtube who makes series of them. What you will need is the Lazy Newb Pack, just search for it on google and find the latest DF version. This will give you all the good Utilities like Dwarf Therapist (which lets you assign labors quickly) and it provides tilesets (pictures) to replace the default ASCII of the game. Good Luck, its a lot of fun!

to all newcomer use the lazy newb pack (mike mayday)

also you need dwarf therapist to assign labors. (doing this without a prog is nearly impossible)

only pro´s play with the ascii set : I

after a few days or so you start to enjoy dwarf fortress.

and you actually built your fortress inside of a mountain at first ^^

I don't understand what this is, please explain so i can understand what those moving letters and colored blocks are. Is this a topdown game? Or a side scroller?

@RIOT690 The game is played from a topdown view and those letters represent things. C is a cat and D for dog, that kind of thing. The game is made using ASCII = Just letters and special characters.

@RIOT690 If you want to get into the game, though, you don't have to use the ASCII set. People make other tilesets and such to make the graphics a little easier to understand.

The game is hard. You'll lose a lot. The fortresses are a bitch to keep alive in even the easiest areas. Your Dwarfs are dumb and will run to their deaths. Goblins, Elves, carp and other nasty's will ruin your day at every chance they get. The dragon you -JUST- manage to kill, will set fire to one piece of cloth which then leads to your entire fortress being on fire.

This game simply hates you and wishes only for you to lose.

And it's some of the most fun You'll ever Experience.
