I'm just going to put this out there, I'm a truth seeker, neither atheist or believer. But I have to say, a discovery like this makes me believe in both God and Humans even more! It's incredible how this team of scientists have managed to create a functioning rat heart. This is the best news I could ever hear. Orangeplumbob, I am in the same boat as you, have a congenital defect that the Dr.s have said i got about 10 years before I go on a transplant list. Seeing this technology makes me think that within the next ten years I might be a the benificiary of this science. This is amazing! Im a CHD (congenital heart defect) survivor who knows that life is priceless and short lived. I have had many close calls and recently was told that the next time my heart goes into CHF I will need a new heart. Science has always been on my side. Ive been through different breakthroughs in the cardiac world and this breakthrough is HUGE and I hope that when and if I need a transplant I can get something like this without the risk of rejection.

They aren't talking about embryonic stem cells in this video. The embryonic stem cell debate is highly overblown anyways, as adult stem cell research is much more promising, as seen in this video.
Stem cell research is fascinating and exciting. The use of embryonic stem cells is very controversial of course, so something that really excites me is that researchers have found a way to basically despecialize some cells. These cells are called induced pluripotent stem cells. This stuff is so exciting. It's just reprogramming already specialized cells which makes them act much like embryonic stem cells.

I'm just going to put this out there, I'm a truth seeker, neither atheist or believer. But I have to say, a discovery like this makes me believe in both God and Humans even more! It's incredible how this team of scientists have managed to create a functioning rat heart. However, it's also incredible how complex the human body is that simple stem cells can adapt into any specific cell they're exposed to. Keep in mind, the scientists didn't create the stem cells.

Regardless of your moral or religious standpoint, embryonic stem cells have far more potential than adult ones, nobody can dispute this.

It is true there is more adult stem-cell research, because it has received much more federal money in the US, but embryonic stem cell research has still been ongoing this whole time in the US, as well as in Asia and parts of Europe especially the UK. Theoretically ES cells have a lot of potential, but this has proven difficult to translate to real-world treatments and researchers have been giving us empty promises for over a decade in regard to them. Not to mention tumors

As a Christian, I trust God's will and plan for my life and the life of the child's. I would save the embryos (because they can't yet save themselves) while yelling to the child to run to safety. Sometimes bad things happen, but I know that God will is good and that out of tragedy great things can happen. Similar to the Tucson shooting, the young girl that died (because of human sin) was tragic, but now she is in heaven and many young people have turned to God.

Granted, most people who oppose it happen to be religious, but that doesn't mean it's all bad. Quite frankly, I consider myself to be very religious, but I actually agree with stem cell research. I think it's great and I'm still a Christian. Don't go lumping people and groups together just because of what a some people say. We don't always share the same ideas.

This is the best news I could ever hear. Orangeplumbob, I am in the same boat as you, have a congenital defect that the Dr.s have said i got about 10 years before I go on a transplant list. Seeing this technology makes me think that within the next ten years I might be a the benificiary of this science. Reguardless of God or any other diety, I'm glad medical science is doing something to allow my children to keep their father.

This is amazing! Im a CHD (congenital heart defect) survivor who knows that life is priceless and short lived. I have had many close calls and recently was told that the next time my heart goes into CHF I will need a new heart. Science has always been on my side. Ive been through different breakthroughs in the cardiac world and this breakthrough is HUGE and I hope that when and if I need a transplant I can get something like this without the risk of rejection.

God told us to spread the word, not conderm others. By doing this, what do you accomplish? Do you really think this will convert anyone to God? I have absolutely no issues with saying yes to completely heal and live without my pain, fatigue, future cancer and liver transplant. The truth to me is that science and spirituality fits beautifully together through books like Keys of Enoch and similar texts. I am leaving for Mexico in a few months to get this treatment and I bless science, the Doctor who is also Spiritual in every way with my heart.

Stem cell research is fascinating and exciting. The use of embryonic stem cells is very controversial of course, so something that really excites me is that researchers have found a way to basically despecialize some cells. These cells are called induced pluripotent stem cells. This stuff is so exciting. It's just reprogramming already specialized cells which makes them act much like embryonic stem cells.

i am for this new type research yes stem cells is the way the go but my problem with this is why use an animal heart why they cant use a dead human heart what are they trying to imply that we are similar to animals and if that is the case we being intelligent creatures being classed in the same group as animals, this is highly offensive to the whole human race.

@Griesmayer thats only my belief. hahah if you think the government isn't lying to us, well don't even worry about it, don't hurt ya head! human cloning is possible right now, today. if you can clone a pig, a sheep, a rat, a dog, a cat, a monkey...you can clone a human. do your homework. Obama addressed the issue saying something like "we wont clone human beings because it is morally questionable". my question is when has morals ever stopped them before?

@DoctorSess not morals, but law. If you'd clone a human, you'd be a criminal. And you cant clone a human in some back door dark alleyway where you wont get caught. You need modern apparatus that will attract the eyes of many.

@Griesmayer alright then when has law stopped them before? the CIA has carried out plenty of illegal and immoral experiments and activities over the years...MK Ultra comes to mind. Laws and Morals never stopped them and it probably never will. They will use any and every technological advancement to their advantage in order to maintain their power and control. It's not like it's some secret.

All throughout history religion has stood as a huge snag to human progress. If they had it their way we would still be living in a flat world with the sun revolving around us. I have nothing against religion i just dislike the establishment when you cut it down thats all that it is a private business just like any corporation difference is that their ceo is the son of god.

@subliminalpain im not religious by any means, only spiritual. i think mankind's spiritual maturity needs to catch up with its technological capabilities. instead of free energy we build bombs that destroy entire cities...we've got a long way to go. cutting edge technology in a child's hands is a dangerous thing.
