After reading these comments, I feel downright lucky that I got this on VHS years ago, and that a local video shop was able to convert it to DVD for me. I'd better lock them up in a safe, b/c not even Amazon in the U.K. has it.

@AsSheLikesIt very cultured actually, the movie suggests they're Nigerians who live in France with no mention of England or connection to England so I found it odd that that all the characters had English accents. I never mentioned race FYI
If any of you want to speak with Oluwafisayo "Fizzy" Roberts (The little boy) then get in touch over Facebook. I can't link his site here but if you google "Oluwafisayo Fizzy Roberts" his page is the first to show! He loves to speak of his time on set, and is happy to answer any questions, just message him telling him you enjoyed the film and he's sure to accept! He remains in touch with Joke, Colin and Nia and is happy to talk about them; how he wishes for a sequel!
@TheStarceyn100 Nope. You're right. I'm Nigerian and this sounds nothing like any Nigerian accent I've ever heard. It sounds more British or something
Oh dear,I should have known as soon as "European Co-production Fund" appeared in the opening credits. Kingsley as Firth's father-Mime and Siegfried springs to mind.
I remember when I was in Lagos I asked a boy: "Where can I find something to eat?" and he said: "Why you no speak Nigerian?".
I'd been speaking with an American Peace Corp Voluntary and he'd explained the pidgin English there to me and I had thought about it. So I gave it a try: "Me want chop-chop?" and the boy understood me!
Since when did Africans particulary Nigerians have British accents?! This movie is fake as shit. The least they could do was cast women who were actual Nigerians. This bullshit movie. Idk why Americans think that everyone outside of America should have English accents in a movie.
@SingingBeauty1012 Are you fukin retarded?!!! Do you honestly think England is the only place that people speak with a british accent??!! lol. Nigeria used to be a BRITISH protectorate. People in the BRITISH Virgin Islands also speak with an english accent. Any country that was under the british empire at the turn of the century still speak with a british accent. God...go back to school.
@Clairescool99 No actually I'm perfectly sane thank you very much. Yeah, they're supposed to have British accents right? Which explains why the the pastor has a fake African accent. Which also explains why the boy's aunt has an so called African accent as well. Just because Nigeria was a protectorate does not mean that they were assimilated into Bristish society and way of life. Nigeria was still very much involved with their own traditions and way of life. So please GTFOH
@Clairescool99 Secondly this movie's plot was not even set in Nigeria, it was set in France. Thirdly, it proves my point that Nigerians IN NIGERIA didn't necessarily have British accents..... you mad? Biiiiitch.
I love the Peckham (south east London) accent of the little Nigerian boy......before the film started, he must have visited his Auntie Buki in Nelson Mandela Way!
it is only obvious that colin firth would be attracted to nia long she is a pretty woman and of course she would be drawn to him he is just mesmerizing! :)
how did you get this movie? I have been trying to get it but nothing...only here the scenes you kindly share with us. Thank you. It is a very good and wonderful movie, one of the best of Colin Firth.
Have tried for 6 months to get a copy of this film. Have only seen it once, but instantly loved it. Thank you so, so, much for putting it on you tube.....
