Awesome. I learned on a 7'2. i would def say move back a little bit, that board is big enough to hold someone 250 lbs or so easily... so if you are lighter (im 190) you should have no issues with nose diving other than with distribution of weight factors. Just keep your back foot on the pad or about 8 inches from the back of the board and then stand shoulder width apart from that or a bit more if it helps you squat better. if you stay back you can turn and 'pump' the board easier too.
I can turn and catch the wave and I have the right position. However almost every time I catch it when I'm ready to pop up the nose goes into the water and I wipeout. Help?
@Reesesp13ces Hey man... You should try standing back a little bit on the board. What size board are you using? You can also move your body to shift weight to your back leg if you have to.
@TheSerginho5 A short board is much harder and dependent of your size, nearly impossible. If you really want to go for the fast track to a short board than pick one that is around 6-10'' bigger than you and has a chest width around 20-45 (varies on your size). A fish board is a great board as well as an egg shape. Mind you, this will be costly and possibly painful. You must take care of your board and respect it. Fiberglass can hurt you.
@TheSerginho5 Well if you are around 5'10'' it shouldn't be to bad in terms of balance, however, you still must take care of it. (not leaving it out in the sun for too long, don't lay it on a hard surf face, keep it safe, ect.) With fiberglass you also have to realize that it will break over time. I have a 7' foam that I have had since I was little and it still floats (despite me treating it like shit) but, my fiberglass board that I bought last year has pressure cracks in the side.
@TheSerginho5 I am not saying you made a bad choice, I am just saying you should be careful and be patient. It will most likely take you longer to learn and it may break before your first season is even through.

These poofs are WRONG! No need to hold your arms straight out like these dorks. Relax your upper body once you stand and only move your arms for balance. Don't be a kook like these toadies! NO FLEXY BOARDS EITHER. The real thing or a boogie board. You'll never get it on a flexy!
What does it mean that almost everytime I try to catch a wave, the nose of my board goes (nose-dives) under water? I don't understand what I'm doing wrong here.
LOL you were right, I really paid attention to what i was doing yesterday and I noticed that when ever i get ready to pop up that I drag my body forward some to get leverage. then once I get up on my feet im too close to the board an it just flys behind me. Thanks for that!
Well, I will try that but two days ago I split my board in half :(
It was a used board i got from craigslist so I think it was on its way out anyway because it was taking on water. So now I have to shop for a new board before I can try that. ON a side note i was very popular at the beach as I was walking with my board in two..lol Everyone wanted to talk to me. I'm going down to pacific beach tomorrow to find a new longboard.
These really are great vids. I've been practicing for about 3 months and these videos helped me pick up things I didn't necessarily learn by myself

Loved it :) It was very hard to catch waves, if I caught any at all... well, I didn't. But just relaxing on the board was awesome enough.

you're standing too close to the nose of the board, so when you stand up than your nose is pointing downwards, and you nose dive.

also instead of going straight down the wave, try going at an angle so you ride next to the wave, instead of going straight down it.
