That hasn't just started. Mercedes-Benz has set the standard for automotive ingenuity for some time now. Amazing engineering and ergonomic genius in most German cars. Served in Germany for some time and I absolutely loved it there. I'm ex USAF and a proud American, but I am fair in my critique of anything and German engineering is certainly outstanding.

When the 9000 and 9-5 came they were way ahead of it's competition and GM has their transmission and engine development set up in Sweden with SAAB engineers... which means that tiny SAAB isn't supported by GM, but that GM is supported by SAAB.

Reports from Trollhättan says that the scrapped programs and Epsilon development by SAAB essentially lead to Opel Insignia, so...

No they're not cool, they're just brilliant. An engineers dream. A car for people who likes inventions. Who likes to drive a turbo charged car knowing SAAB pinned it down first. Who appreciates side air bags, whiplash safe head rests and cars that are top of the list in terms of reliability and safety.

A car for people who looks at the new hatchback and green fuel trends and says "hey. That looks awfully lot like a SAAB to me".

I'm sure it ain't cool, but damn, it is clever.
