However Australia should get behind the Greens plan of moving from coal-power to renewable energy. Why? Because Australia can show the world that solving global warming is possible. We can lead the way by developing renewable energy that can provide the base load electricity for the whole country.
Would the greens plan actually do anything to mitigate global warming? Even if we could get rid of all the coal-fired power stations tomorrow and replace them with renewable energy would it make a difference to global warming. Australia only contributes 1.1% of global greenhouse emissions so anything we do would really not impact on climate change.
I don't know if clean coal technology will work and be competitive. I would like to know. The only way to find out is to try.

The problem is that if everyone thinks that nothing gets done. It's the same as switching your TV off of stand-by.
