I think your processor is the bottleneck here.... With Fraps you need at least 1 core to record if you play at 1280 x 720 or higher... That leaves 1 core for GTA4. ;-)

i have a problem with shadows too since i have installed the new patch. the shadows of cars and bikes dissapear and u see the shadow of the driver below the car. I have reinstalled the game more than 3 times and if i dont install the patch there is no error with shadows but with patch the problem appears. I don't no what to do.. Can anybody help??

i can this with an e8200 and a gtx260 black edition with 4gb 1066mhz ram and runs so fine!, only problem is that i dont have my 260 because my psu killed it so im getting another replacement :)

may be power suplly or het sink z not fitted correctly or minmize ur game while running and maximize it may b it works

i got this game too, i think it's rubbish

and i been running it on 2gig, 512mb ram, nvidia FX5200

everything fully tweaked and nvidia forceware 78.01

runs bit slow, but i not know how you getting all these problems and you spent loads of money

find out how to tweak your computer first, then mess with graphic driver cards

uh, holy shit man. fx 5200? do you live in 2002? the game needs at least an 8600 gt, and a fast dual core or a fast quad.

Your problem with reflection and light are A.I. Catalyst. I've the same video card and the same problem. Setup your Catalyst A.I. (in 3D > A.I. Catalyst) on Standard. Good Luck.

It is called 3D settings. There are all of the different settings under it, but the top-most slider controls all of it. Once you've set that to high, you can start tweaking it down, if you even need to with that awesome card ;)

I am looking into this further - some say, indeed, the drivers fixed it for them, and it seems common in 4870x2.

Have you already tried the game on -safemode or otherwise-low settings? Do the shadows still flicker even on low. I know it wont be acceptable to play low ;)

Yes,i tried all those settings one by step and then pot Anti-Aliasing to 16x only with "Box" filter,shadows stop winking,but after that i got from benchmark test lower result -5 fps that before. Other settings from 3D menu don't effect to shadows at all.

I didn't try -safemode act. And here my commandline: -noprecache -nomemrestrict -norestrictions -novblank

And yes this is rediculous that i can't play this game even on "standard" settings,every single time i'm getting just more problems.

There you go. I think we might have found it. Take off -novblank and -norestrictions and -nomemrestrict. Set game to "medium/high" settings, 1650 is only good for medium/high anyway (all the higher is not really noticed because not enough pixel on screen anyway, for good example - start game all high on 800x600 - it will still look low, see?)

That's step one. Can you disable a GPU and still use the 1GB memory? Or will fixing the commandline limit to 512mb?

I pot 800x600 and all on low and after 2 min play GTAIV showed me Fatal error - Out of memory. God damned.

Ah, then you can quite safely drop it to medium (no need though if it's running that well with high). What version of ATi Drivers you using have? 8.12, 9.1, or 9.2? Older?

Maybe it is a driver setting. Did you already try using the master slider in Catalyst and setting everything to highest? I'm interested to fix this, I'm about to hit google - I know it sucks when you can't play your IV!

Also, put those tex on medium, when I watch, I see things happen from too high textures (when the median cones pop up out of nowhere, when it jags and stutters. Maybe it's just fraps though)
