You not had much racing or track day expirience? Keep your hands at quarter to three on the wheel. You shuffle your hands, and that way you lose feel through the steering. Nice car though.
i've been on a trackday when that lotus cortina has been on aswell and its a bloody fast car.yes he doesn't make it easy to pass him but this caterham r500 isn't miles faster than it.plus caterham driver can only drive it fast on the straights, due to repair cost i prosume?
Hi There, yes this is the latest Caterham R500 2.0 Litre Duratec engine with 263 BHP. There is a clutch as its a six speed sequential quaife gearbox, flat shifts are suitable, but at this outing I was running in the whole car, engine gearbox etc so was not running up to the red line. Hence the reason for the short shifts, not sure what the steering ratio is, it has the standard caterham steering rack, IE not the optional high ratio rack, thanks for your comments.
Thanks I think this is one of the better positions for the VIO-POV Camera too. The lens is wide angle enough to show enough of the inside of the car and the outside too!! Le Mans sounds like a god choice for a track day, I would like to take my car there too someday!! Nige.
This angle works best with the camera. I can't wit to get one; I'm off to a track day (actually 2) at Les Mans at the beginning of August. Mulsane & Bugatti circuits; I can't wait!
Hi Joecaterham, no sorry wont be going to that event as I have a business meeting in San Francisco that week Hope you have a good day with no rain!! Make sure you post some video clips too!! Cheers, Nige
Nice car but come on at 2.3 you add comments about getting past the Lotus Cotina again at 2.40 anf then at 2,.50 a well driven Porsche goes past you both in one move. Your new R500 should trance both of those cars....and no I am not envious as I have a wonderful R400
I am so confused as to why you would want people to actually see this! I know everyone has to start somewhere, but this is just embarrasing, especially given the machinery you are in!
Hi Jimbodizzle, thanks for the feedback and I am acutely aware of what I was doing incorrectly. However as I have stated elsewhere this was the first ever track outing for my newly built car. The suspension settings are way out, so I need to get the car corner weighted on a flat floor set up soon. The idea of sharing the video is so that I can share with people how the car improves and obviously my driving and appreciation of the car as we both improve. Thanks again for watching.
Come on now, why would the car's handling traits cause you to shuffle the wheel?! that would just compound the problem!
On the plus side though, you seem keen to learn which is fair enough. I can highly recommend tuition - it changed the way i drive forever and is money well spent. You will get so much more out of your car!
Just a word of advice for you, you talk a lot about your skills and experience, but you have not published anything about what you have done, so we are all waiting to see your video content and learn from your fantastic experience too!!
Great video! Only slight thing is you shouldn;t really be moving your hands, with such a small wheel and high speed you just keeps your hands at quarter to 3 at all times. Other than that great vid and nice driving!
Thanks for the feedback, and yes I know about the shuffling, it was the first outing ever for the car since I built it, and it was not yet run in either!! Also the suspension settings are way off, but this was just a first trial run to see what needed to be set up on the car. thanks for watching and the comment though.
Yeah no worries, I was hoping you weren;t going to think I was another one of those annoying youtube commenters just slating you or anything, It was just an observation, in all honesty I'm really jealous haha, but yeah nice vid keep them coming!
Hi and dont worry about it, I take comments like that in my stride, as I know that most people are just envious of my new car ;-)
Also the vast majority of people who make rude or abusive comments don't realize that they are doing so publicly, which makes them look more of a fool than any one else.
I am sure it will come back to bite them at a later time!!
Glad you like the videos, and I hope to be able to do some more track days soon, and post the videos here too.

You also had loads of chances at getting past the Lotus Cortina. He moves over clearly more than once..

There's clutch pedal for this sequential gearbox? It's the 1.8 230 bho or the newest 2.0? Do you know the steer ratio? Thanks for the infos!

Paul, I assume you mean Caterham wise?
Prior to my current R500 Duratec I had a K Series R400 with the Caterham six speed box.
Prior to that and my first Caterham, which I built also from a kit was a 1998 K Series 1.8 Supersport.

a) dont move your hands on the wheel
b) Learn to heal-toe
c) Look up the word "apex" in the dictionary
