My 2007 Prius does not get very exciting MPG in town.Barely 30 MPG and less in the winter.I do get much better results while on the highway, but that depends on how windy it might be.My best for one tank fill-up was 51MPG,but overall I think I average some 45MPG in the summer and between 35 and 40 in the cold weather. Not great as I expected, but better than any other car I have ever owned. It's the right car for these times without a doubt.
We finally gave our 07 prius a real world test OTR. At 80 mph the car will get 40 mpg mountians and all. If you drive at night TX roads drop to 65 mph and at that speed you set the cruise and get 48 mpg a tank of gas will last you over 450 miles if you don't stop. If you run it hard up to 90 mph to pass and get rid of pest drivers your economy will suffer to about 38 mpg but worth it if you are in a hurry and want to get 1,200 miles in your back pocket in a 20 hour drive, with stops. Check tires!
I usually drive this car for economy when we are at home and I have gotten 70 mpg but was fearful of taking a bullet from people that were to my rear. If you were in a situation where you needed to survive and get that kind of mileage you can. The wife usually gets 38 to 40 mpg I will average 50 to 55 real world. I am a professional trucker using the smith system and she is a hammer down race to the SS and red light always late. Super stress type driver that slaughters the cars brakes.Expensive!
@cdltpx I ride a bicycle a lot so I tend to drive cars in a similar energy conserving fashion. Although those lights that turn red at the last minute really piss me off. I wish all lights would come installed with a countdown. I don't care if it causes some drivers to race to a light before the time has expired.
@TimpBizkit I was an OTR trucker and some places have lights that will give warning that it is about to turn yellow. Most munucipalities have done the opposite they have installed traffic cams to catch red light runners and when they do this it never fails the light will go to red much quicker. I wish green lights had a blink so we could prepare for the pending yellow. I like towns that have synchronized lights.
Economy is that big of a deal when we were in Phoenix we were in traffic with Lamborghini,Ferrari,Bentley, and other high end hugh speed cars guess where they were? Stuck in traffic just like us only they looked better in paint but not in ink. The Prius is comfortable we had plenty room for our 1,560 mile drive. We left larger vehicles in the dust bc they probably could not afford to pump it up to 80 mph and hold it there. The speed limit there is that fast.

There is evidence, the Prius has the same CARBON FOOTPRINT as a Toyota Landcruiser V8, when everything is taken into account. Sourcing, Manufacturing, Running & Disposal.
What do you expect from a company that uses a flaccid phallus as its emblem.
The batteries used in the Prius are the same type found in every portable device; cell phones, laptops, cameras, camcorders, remotes, video game controllers, children's toys and so on. They are not made special for the Prius.
CO2 is causing our planet to heat up, refining oil into gasoline releases that CO2, and the Prius uses the least amount of barrels over a 15,000 mile period of any car. The Prius also releases the least amount of CO2 of any car while burning it to drive around in.
He got 37 mpg omg! He must have been driving like an asshole on the road, because that's the only time that I ever get the low of a rating.Doing 100+mph on the highway riping around 65+mph on back roads passing people on the left, and everybody's favorite I got to be ahead sindrome. You know what I am talking about trying to stay ahead of the person next to you like the is a checkered flag at the next light.Or like a dumb ass he left the car running while not driving it. That will kill the rating!
forget the fact that the prius makes you look ugly and gay, its not anyhwere economical and not anywhere a good car. because toyota goes through such great lengths to make it, it actually emits more through its life time than a land rover lr3 (this is true, look it up) not to mention that every 5 years or 100,000 miles you have to replace the battery pack for $5,000.
this being said, the jetta diesel gets better mpg, service intervals are like 12k miles, and its built to last (powerful too)
224,000 kms is only 140,000 miles. you have gone 40,000 miles over without replacing it, good for you. eventually it will need replacing. i also have a toyota with 140,000 miles on it (98 camry), but i have been in prius's and they don't feel like they are made with the same level of quality.
anyway, i'm 6'5'' and can barely fit in the front seat of the prius.
i wouldn't buy a hybrid if i was in the market for a green car, right now i'm looking to buy a bmw x3.
The prius has a lot of plastic in it... it's designed to be light weight. Is that why it feels low quality? Trust me... all Toyotas are built to the same Q.C. specs. Toyota ensures this with their T.E.M.A engineers.
amazing, but i dont care how it was engineered, it's still really really cheap inside and really underpowered by anybody's standards. its ludicrous because unless the prius is going 45-55 mph, any other car can do better with mpg.
and somewhere around 10 years or 150,000 miles, the battery pack needs replacing, and this does cost several thousand dollars. i believe in keeping cars for about 15 years and to about 250,000 miles, so the prius fails.
Under powered? compare it to cars 15 years ago... its got plenty of power. The problem is with Americas missplaced sense of entitle meant. Most Americans think a family car needs at least 200bhp, and care nothing about gear ratios or torque!
The Prius beats every car on the road in bumper to bumper, city, and mixed driving.
I'm not sure why you think it's meant to run at peak efficiency at 45-55mph... perhaps you don't understand how the regenerative synergy system works.
yes, i can. you just move it to the d, r, or n, and then it puts it in that gear, and moves back to the center. you then press the park button above it.

That Steve Hammis guy does all of the reviews. He's got an akward voice. And it doesn't get 60mpg. It gets 48 city 45 highway. God damn it, I HATE how people exaggerate their MPG numbers. They just do it on purpose. Or they must be driving slightly down hill.
The 2007 Prius was rated 60 mpg city, 51 mpg highway. The EPA tests were revised for 2008 to achieve more realistic results, and 2008 and 2009 Priuses are rated at 48 city, 45 highway.
Do your research before you write comments like that.
ugly, but i think its one of the most efficient hybrids out there so that counters its ugliness. also, there are leaked pics of the new prius, it has solar panels on top!
Toyota Prius owns! 400 NM from the el-engine all the time, and 139 hp from both engines. its fast, its cool, its good for the enviroment, and its a Toyota = Quality.
Every Prius-haters are freaks, and dosnt know what a good car is.
I heard the reason it doesn't have a sunroof is because it would disrupt the airflow over the top. I imagine a power moonroof would add weight and would also alter the shape.
When you floor it from a stop there is actually an uncomfortable pause. After that the gas engine comes on and it accelerates pretty smoothly. You can check out my 0-60 video. 10 seconds is about right as I demonstrated. It is a combination of the electric and gas engine that makes it pretty good for acceleration but on its own the electric motor is very weak.
It's crap, buy a diesel turbo car. My diesel does 60mpg in the town and 70+ at 56mph. It costs a lot less and is faster than a Prius. In the UK the prius qualifies for £35/year road tax, my diesel is £115 but has lower emissions than a Prius! Diesel every time. Prius is OLD technology.
Yeah, that makes sense, diesel has more energy than gasoline, and technology has come a long way. Every time someone says they want to buy a hybrid, it makes me want to punch them.
I keep hearing this. Why does a hybrid which makes a gasoline car get almost the same mileage piss you off? I'm pissed off that someone like you knocks hybrids when they are so much cleaner. I don't understand the argument. People say, a Prius is crap, my dirty diesel car gets the same or slightly better mileage. Very confusing.
@425i Plus you're just one of those stupid Prius drivers that go 55 on the freeway. I bought an 2001 Oldsmobile aurora 4.0 for 4 thousand dollars, and all of the money you spend on the hybrid system, i use on gas. So I really end up spending less monry, and geting a pretty fast car and luxury. while you don't.
btw: you probobly dont know what an oldsmobile is because you only know two types of cars: Prius and gas guzzlers.
@kirbyswarp Your a idiot. A aurora 4.0 is a piece of shit period. Dont even compare it to a prius. I am a used car dealer and mechanic. I have owned and sold lots of cars. The hybrid systems dont need any attention. I sold a prius back in 2003. 250,000 km later it still runs and drives. Normal mateniance and nothing happened to the hybrid system. I myself own a gas guzzling car. But by you saying that your saving money with tht aurora you got to be kidding me ahaha.
They must have reall raised the price. Mine isn't the touring but has smart key, backup cam, and the extras, I got it for just over $22K. They are in real short supply now though. The dealer told my girlfriend that customers are telling him that people are literally approaching them at the gas pump offering to buy their Priuses from them.
Toyota got something big on their hands and im very happy for them. GM stop the EV-1 electric car for the Hummer, suv and trucks. I know a guy who waited almost 6 month to receive his Toyota Prius. Im stuck with one of those GM suv Gas-guzzler. Gas is $4.55 for rag, $4.75 for super in NYC.
