I am almost in tears you are living out my dream of owning a capybara but I am so glad it's you that own's caplin because it's obvious you go above and beyond for your capy
Looking forward to owning one, but I'm just wondering if they are anything like dogs? Because that's pretty much how I would care for it. Take it for walks, etc. Could I buy food at a grocery store for them also?
@yanezftw You can walk a capybara but they are very slow. We go for long walks but by that I mean a long time not a long distance. Personality-wise they are something like a dog and something like a cat. They'll do tricks but only if there's something in it for them. Capybaras eat mainly grass which you cannot get at a grocery store. They also eat fruits and some vegetables but grass or at least hay is essential.
I Love the look of perpetual boredom that seems to be the normal look for capybaras. It's like he's thinking "*grumble grumble* Yeah, wave, just give me the stupid popsicle already"
@birdman769 She probably studies animals, is a vet, has some sort of license that shows she is qualified to own one, ect. As she said previously you can look at her blog for more info.
This comment has received too many negative votesshow
@birdman769 ILLEGALLY . They are wild animals and should not be removed from their already fragile natural environment. this is animal cruelty . And she surely knows nothing and has no qualifications to own one.:(
@haydutraduke You know nothing about capybaras and yet you have posted on many, many of my videos. I don't think you watched them or you would know something by now. It is so...how do you say...ironic? that you call me uniformed!
Capybaras are a species of least concern according to the IUCN. They are hunted for both meat and leather in the wild. Caplin is at least 3rd generation captive bred.
By the way, I am turning down your YouTube friend request. You must not know what friend means.
i saw some discussion about "removing capibaras" from their natural habitat is cruel... btw here in brasil, in the regions where is common to find capibaras they are so badly common that they are almost as a plague, their population in so HUGE simply no one would be crazy enough to care if someone killed or adopted one. (their meat is awful btw) in short: "if u ask for legal permission to bring one from brazil, they will grant (likely) and no damage would be done."
@ifoejwwfsu "In short: "if u ask for legal permission to bring one from brazil, they will grant (likely)and no damage would be done.""
Wrong. FYIAD clearly you never heard of IBAMA , lol not Obama, otherwise you'd know thats not true! The main reason of them being a "plague " is also false since they only happen to move downstream from their environments, rivers, dams e water systems, because of the damage that is being done to their natural habitat. They are hardly a nuisance. ftw biatch....
go ask yourself then how my mother asked ibama about "i can have a talking parrot?" (i guess thats the term for the species in english), and they aswered "okay", and he bird is in my house right now. if you are from brazil and heard that "this is impossible" likely you never talked to someone from ibama personaly before.
(btw i had eaten capibara meat in a non ilegal way, in the region of pantanal, SO MUCH for an endangered species that "somehow" ibama protects...)
@ifoejwwgyfsu sweetheart Oh I AM SURE "your mom asked IBAMA for a talking parrot " and they said ok NOT. because shes so good at licking balls perhaps. If you had been accompanying this discussion you'd know I am in Pantanal and work along with IBAMA. Yes capybara meat is not that great and you can only eat it there if you re are a native or native indian descendant in which your case you probably are from what you said because after illegally owning endangered birds and destroying your...
First its not legal to remove them from where these breeders are getting them. It may be legal where these fucked up people live to have them. BUT you are all missing the point! Removing a few to be kept as pets may seem harmless, but its like letting Iran enrich uranium. It may not be a big deal they say because its for energy purposes only but we all know where thats gonna end up. Same on this case, except on an environmental level, which should be given just as much attention!! U should care
Now why should I care? Yes I have two guinea pigs (which are related to capybaras) and I wouldn't care less. Does that mean that dogs should not have been removed from their environment a long time ago? Also, you said "First its not legal" then you say "It may be legal". If you say you care so much, actually do something about it instead of making stupid comments on a video. And "prostitution, becoming a whore, and crack addict" has nothing to do with the videos nor the comments.
@haydutraduke Capabatas are not endangered in ANY WAY. How is teaching him tricks cruel? She did not beat him, and gave him positive reinforcement for his compliance. The same way you teach a dog something.
@haydutraduke Hmm. Feeding him popsicles is cruel? This animal obviously has the best life! Look at more videos. Its amazing what this woman does for Caplin.
@oPEACEoLOVEoJUICYo17 Popsicles are not healthy for humans, let alone animals. An apple or other fruit would be a much better treat for the animal's health, and just as sweet and tasty.
@Muntasiful You clearly do not know how finicky Caplin is or you would also know that we have tried a wide variety of fruits and vegetables and there are very few that he will eat. He does like pears, raisins and dried cherries. And we try to feed him fruit popsicles most of the time.
He actually has bitten me and it is not pleasant. Their teeth are razor sharp. He bit right through the seam of my jeans and managed to take a quarter-sized piece of flesh out, which left a nasty scar. This seems to have been related to developing territoriality as he matured. He has always been perfectly gentle when we are not at home. And he seems to have outgrown this behavior. Please read the FACute on his blog for more information.
@shiahian something similar to rocky mtn spotted fever and even leishmaniose!
Thats why they would make terrible pets. ps: they are in fact rodents duh! Leptospirose, Hanta virus can be transmitted by capybaras once removed from their natural habitat that can not be recreated in captivity specially as a pet.
Adorable as ever. I was worried though about his stand tipping over, and wondered if it was somehow anchored to the ground. I was so relieved whenever you put your foot on the lower step.
Nothing against elephants but Caplin is MUCH cuter.
You can watch the video "Attack of the Capybara" for the answer to that. I'm going to try to put together a new video on that topic soon. In general, Caplin does not bite, but there are a couple of people he has taken an extreme dislike to.
They can actually take pretty cold weather, down to around 10 degrees F. It was about 60 degrees when this video was taken, so actually not cold at all. I'm wearing a jacket but it's not zipped up. He goes outside to graze at night even when the temperatures are in the 30s. But he won't swim in his pool if it's cold. Instead he wants to have a warm bath in the tub.
