I trekked to Everest Base camp this spring 2010. We flew to Lukla in a Dornier 228.
No roads to Lukla you either hike or fly. All flights are VFR (visual). We had a clear day...really exciting. On the way out, we were the last flight for three days because it became socked in with cloud.
The pilot's right hand was operating the engine RPM (speed).
I'm glad to have that one crossed off the bucket list...
Yes that's the Twin Otter, built to do just that, land and take off in places like this. Proudly built in Canada in the 60's and still kicking strong and flown all over the world...
Yes. The ATC at Lukla is constantly in radio contact with controllers at Kathmandu to make sure that the weather stays good for arrivals and departures so they know if its safe to continue to allow planes to arrive and or depart.
im getting horny

Stalling on a landing like this is needed to make a wonderful landing. If you don't you could be flaring too long and run to the end of the runway.

Which is a brick wall :)

Was that an actual airline?
TennisChamp59 3 years ago
Yes, it was Yeti Air which flies from Kathmandu to Lukla 10 times a day taking Trekkers to the only mountain airstrip in the Himalaya.

Oh god...when he seems to flare for landing and then the aircraft stalls it's simply amazing
