Humans hunted nearly all the otters out, the sea urchins(sea otters natural prey)over populated and ate the entire kelp forest, all the small fish living in the kelp had no where to hide and died, and the big fish that we eat like cod, also died out since there was no small fish to eat. if that can happen because of an otter, imagine the results if the same thing hapened to an apex predator.

This isn't like other forms of food...the sharks are left alive after they salvage the meat, then dumped in the ocean to die. Rather than using animals that died naturally, or humanely killing them, they torture them and leave them. These fisherman deserve what they do. How would they like th have their limbs cu off and be left out to die?

Do something. Go to the Shark Alliance website and sign the petitions. Send a letter to your goverment/parliament member. Say to the people in power what you're thinking. And if you have any restaurants serving shark fin soup-don't go to them and tell them why.
If you have any SE Asian, specifically Chinese friends, asked them why. Discuss it with them. Tell them 90% of the shark population has been wiped out in the last 15 -30 years. Ask if it sounds sustainable. Do something

Well...at least they cut the throat of the first Blue, so it didn't suffer THAT much. But this needs to STOP. I have hopes of one day catching a Shark, but I, apparently, are better than this-as a strict catch-and-release fisherman, it will be unharmed. STOP FINNING, SAVE THE SHARKS. OTHERWISE, OUR CHILDREN/GRANDCHILDREN WILL NEVER GET TO SEE A REAL SHARK.

Because over 100,000,000 of them are killed every year, and sharks are extremely important to oceans, and the population of sharks has declined over 80 percent over the last 20 some years, all the weaker sicker less intelligent fish and sea lions and seals are eaten by sharks but the smarter stronger healthier ones continue to live and produce equally if not superior offspring.

they also control the ocean, For example in SF there used to be lots of sea otters kelp forests and fish. Humans hunted nearly all the otters out, the sea urchins(sea otters natural prey)over populated and ate the entire kelp forest, all the small fish living in the kelp had no where to hide and died, and the big fish that we eat like cod, also died out since there was no small fish to eat. if that can happen because of an otter, imagine the results if the same thing hapened to an apex predator.

This video was filmed in 1997 on board a Costa Rican longline vessel fishing illegaly near Galapagos Island. Now the things had changed and most of the Costa Rican longline fleet do not practice shark finning. Nevertheless longline international fleet are still finning thousand of sharks and illegaly lands shark fins at Costa Rica private docks.

Yeah? Where were you surfing? May I suggest either the Western Cape of South Africa or the East coast of Australia next time, both great for waves (also prime great white shark territory) - and make sure you tie a big chunk of bloody meat to the board. Have fun!
