His own Father's claim to the throne was strengthened as a result of being descended from both The Conqueror and the original Saxon Kings. Im English but if im honest Richard the lionheart was actually one of Englands worst kings. As other people have said early Plantagenet + Norman kings (like William the conqurer and Richard the lionheart) ruled from Normandy rather than England itself and they spoke very little English (William tried to learn English to understand his subjects but was too busy). Richard ruled for 10 years in which he only spent 10 months in England, the rest were spent either on crusade or in the English held...

I honestly believe Richard is the best ruler England ever had. If I had to think of five military commanders from the entire course of history to led by, he'd be one of them. As far as being a ruler, he wasn't a prick to his people, unlike his younger brother (a guy named John). Once Richard heard Jerusalem had fallen to the Abbuyids, the first thing he done to prepare for war was to sell everything he owned (even his lavish castles) to get the best weapons for his troops.

@thedamgame saladin didnt "kick" the crusaders out an agreement was made king Richard defeated saladin in arsuf 1191 and an agreement was made that the Saracens would keep Jerusalem but white Christians would be allowed to safely travel into it a through it something along those lines anyway

@lMitan you are not telling the truth. whther richard achieved his goal is regardless. richard put saladin in his place in jerusalem and ruined his reputation. another thing, saladin may have defeated many kings, but i cannot recall a single battle saladin won against richard in. your precious saladin failed and you are right, people have changed history. the one constant is that the victor wrote history and history said your people lost and failed until the fourth crusade.

1) he fought in the crusades, the holy war against the enemies of christianity. he fought for the god he believed in and taht makes him a holy fighter.

Guys, lets not argue over religion! remember what ghandi said "i am a Hindu, a muslim, a christian and a jew, and so are all of you!" meaning we all serve one god (except hindus) but all of our gods are peaceful and want our lives to be good and prosperous!
