I have been looking into the getting a model 1 Sega CD. I can not find one on ebay so I assume that they are really hard to find and if found are really expensive. I don't think I will be picking one up ever. I have the model 2 so that will do. I just wanted to collect all models but a model 1 Sega CD is not a priority. I imagine that the model 1 is more prone to breaking.
The Model 1 is pretty rare these days because they are indeed prone to breakage. If you do find a working one, they tend to be a bit more expensive than the Model 2. I have one that works, but I never use it. I use my X'Eye instead.
@FatShawnKemp I see that they are harder to find on ebay and I never see them the flee market. I wanted to get one just so that I have all the Genesis models. I only need that and model 3 and model 3 is not that hard to find. I guess that I will just have to shill out some money on ebay the next time I can afford to do so.
LoL best thing about the Genesis 3 you should of mentioned is that it was so cost effective that they didn't even have an LED light to tell you it was powered on, just an orange sticker that you see when you slide the power button up.
copied games didnt kill the system, harldy anyone had a burner when the mega cd came out! even in the early days of playstation not many people had cdr drives!
No copy protection on the SEGA CD was a great thing... not for piracy per-se. It was very fickle with respect to any sort of disc defect, even scratch free discs with microscopic blemishes would take several minutes to load (if at all). It was probably the only system I have ever owned where the concept of making "backups" was completely legitimate.
Funny thing was, you could make a copy of the "defective" CD on a PC and the backup would load just fine... terrible laser!
@MrGencyExit64 i am suckmytitsyoucunts lol, depends on your mega cd, some require an adjustment to the pot on the laser mechanism to read cdrs whereas some work fine straight out of the box. its the same for any console really in regards to reading discs due to the higher read speeds of pc drives, the same can be said of some scratched audio cds even!
I have a question- I just bought a model 2 Sega CD from my local video game shop and when I plug my model 2 Genesis in, it just doesn't power up. Every ac adapter is plugged in and set to go. Are there metal connector plates that go between the model 2 Genesis and Sega CD liken to the giant metal plate for the model 1's? I called them and they said I should just be able to plug it in and go, the model twos don't have any metal connector plates for the bottom. Do I just have a broken Sega CD?
Maybe it is due to a damaged Pico II fuse. There are replacements at RadioShack or online. There are also tutorials online on how to replace it. The metal shielding is just to prevent interference and prevent digital noise. Good luck.
Just wondering but if you have a Model 2 Genesis and CD how do you hook them up. If I have a stereo/video cable for the Model 2 Genesis do I still need to hookup the rca sound cables directly from the CD unit to the tv get the full sound or does it go thru the Genesis model 2?
Ur missing 1 Megga drive it was only released about 2 months ago it's kinda like the last 1 but smaller and it hooks up to new tvs. And it's not a rip of as it is made by sega. It cums with 2 controllers .
Impressive collection you've got here. You're a lucky man to have tracked down the X'Eye and Laser Interactive/Genesis combo, those are hard to come by.
Can you use a backup ram cart on the cdx? Also, does it have internal memory, if so how much? Is it more than a normal sega cd? I've been planning on buying one, but I'd like to know these things beforehand.
@75edainsworth I've heard of it but was never able to track one down. Aside from having a screen and being portable, the Game Gear was nothing more than a slightly altered Master System to begin with.
@ThatOneGuyISawAtBk You have a Firecore or a Blaze Mega Drive depending on what country it was realeased in. It came out a few years ago and isn't worth that much. It doesn't have the same hardware and emulates the original sound card poorly.
Announced in 2008 as the "Firebox" and "Sega Genesis 4" and released in 2009 as the "Firecore", a remodeled "Sega Genesis" console that featured built-in games: Alex Kidd in the Enchanted Castle, Alien Storm, Altered Beast, Arrow Flash, Columns III, Crack Down, Decap Attack, Dr. Robotnik's Mean Bean Machine, Ecco the Dolphin, Ecco Jr., ESWAT, Flicky, Gain Ground, Golden Axe, Jewel Master, Kid Chameleon, Shadow Dancer, Shinobi III, Sonic & Knuckles, Sonic Spinball
@JackBandicootsBunker Yeah i was just thinking that, but the wonder mega is from JVC, and looks suspiciously similar to the "JVC x-eye" in gamester's video! i wonder if the wondermega is like a european version and the x-eye was the american?!
i restored an old arcade machine with a sega genesis 3 console. The console itself in my opinion is outstanding and will work on any t.v. from past to present and i've never had to blow into any of my old genesis carttridges. GOOD VIDEO!
@TheSnuff1717 Well my bad then, because I honestly read back, and didn't see your post about the JVC X'eye. To me, it just looked like you were arguing about the Sega CD, to which point, I would have been correct, but oh well... shoot me or something lol!
It was not released in 94, or 95. The Sega CD was released in America in Oct 15, 92, and in Japan on Oct, 91. So you two tards can stop arguing now, because you clearly have no idea what you are talking about. Look it up on Wikipedia. Other sources would be IGN, Allgame, and Gamespot.
And Snuff, the manufactured date is different from the initial date of release for the system itself. Your unit was manufactured in in Aug 94 during that season's production run.
genesis is a poor system bro. Not only it has fuzzy and less defined graphics, but with 60 something shapes of poor color selection and the euqlly poor soundchip to match.
I had the original Megadrive system imported from japan here to the uk when i was a kid, it played all region games. It came with a copy of Mickey Mouse Castle Of Illusion. Remember building a nice collection of games. Great times.
man those systems are awesome...all the sega systems are the best imo....sadly i only have the 2nd version of the genesis but im looking for all of them if i canf ind them
I love laserdiscs. I have a ton of them. There's a laserdisc/SEGA CD/Genesis combo????? WOW. That would be fun to have. But how do I play 32X on that Laseractive??
I never had the money for one of these my mate did and i remember Night Trap lol..
By the time i left School, got job to afford £300+ consoles the 3DO came out and i wanted a PC for Doom but they started at £600-700 to run Doom so with only £500 saved up i got the 3DO
Sorry if this question has been repeated, but to clarify what you said: On a normal model 1 (or model 2) Sega CD, i can burn games on a CD and play them? It has no protection? Thank You.
Question. With the JVC How the hell do you burn disks? I would like to download them off the net. But evey time I burn a disks the system rejects the disk. It works with real sega cd disks
My neighbor has that Pioneer SEGA Genesis/CD thing. I asked him about it and he paid like $400 for it back in 96' it has all the extras to it. You know what they might be cause IDK what they run for. And I need a genesis system to play my games on.
@abcpat100 Pioneer Laseractive with PAC input (cartridge input). Quite a rare system, and I would get it if its for the right price. But it is incompatible with Sega CD and 32X add-ons.
So if you were going to buy ONE setup for playing genesis and sega CD games what would you do? Model 1 Genesis or Model 2 Genesis & Sega CD model 2 or would you get a CDX?
Hey John, many thanks for approving my video response! I know you're probably REALLY busy and have better things to do than watch my videos, but if you ever do get the chance please feel free to check out my videos and tell me what you think!
I saw the LaserActive Genesis controller at a store in a $5 bin and thought it was just some third party controller. I found out what it is but the store closed before I could pick it up.
@Gamester81 yeah exactly why the hell would they have bothered to make an encryption system to prevent people from copying games back then, nobody had a cd burner back then, come to think of it nobody had a regular cd romfor their computer then either, also nobody had a pc for that matter lol
i did however have a gamedoctor made by bung enterprisess,a chinese company ,it was for my snes and copied games to 3.5' flopy discs ,they had ones that could copy both snes and genesis games too
i cant believe he likes the sega cd model2 better than the model1 the model 2 was a peice of shit it didnt even have a motorized cd drawer like the model 1,it just had that crappy peice of shit flip top lid, they only made it that way to save money & like he even said ,its way more common,i still have my mode1 sega cd,not that i ever used it,but its way cooler looking & more rare & its made much better,i paid like 300$ for that POS back in the day &i only got 2 games beside the ones it came with
@iorel1982 nobody had cd burners back then so no need for protection. it was several years later that they came out and they were around $300 for the first year.
Hey I aslo have the sega genesis system and master system power base converter. You need to use the Av/ Out cables instead of the T.V. adapter cables. And I got Double Dragon for 3 bucks @ a used book store. Good luck Gamester81! Your Collections ar my only hope.
There's a few more variants after the MegaJet. WonderMega 1 & 2, AiwaMegaCD, MegaPC and a few more. There was also a Power Base Converter released for the MDII.
hey dude - I think the only other machine missing from your Genesis/Mega Drive collection on this video would be the Japan only Wondermega - not to be confused with the JVC X'Eye, which was actually based on the follow up, WonderMega M2. Would love to see your review on that system with it's high quality S-Video output and MIDI and Karoke support, as well as better sound capabilities.
So if you were going to buy ONE setup for playing genesis and sega CD games what would you do? Model 1 Genesis or Model 2 Genesis & Sega CD model 2 or would you get a CDX?

He told me his 8X CDRW Drive cost £200 and blank CD's £3-4 each!

I saw the LaserActive Genesis controller at a store in a $5 bin and thought it was just some third party controller. I found out what it is but the store closed before I could pick it up.

Gamester81 1 year ago 6
@Gamester81
Yeah, It was 96/97 when cd burners came out (or even common, but even then it was expensive i.e $20 a disc and you needed a pc).
UltraPic 1 year ago
@Gamester81 +1 For security failures
iToasterman 1 year ago
@Gamester81 yeah exactly why the hell would they have bothered to make an encryption system to prevent people from copying games back then, nobody had a cd burner back then, come to think of it nobody had a regular cd romfor their computer then either, also nobody had a pc for that matter lol
i did however have a gamedoctor made by bung enterprisess,a chinese company ,it was for my snes and copied games to 3.5' flopy discs ,they had ones that could copy both snes and genesis games too

i cant believe he likes the sega cd model2 better than the model1 the model 2 was a peice of shit it didnt even have a motorized cd drawer like the model 1,it just had that crappy peice of shit flip top lid, they only made it that way to save money & like he even said ,its way more common,i still have my mode1 sega cd,not that i ever used it,but its way cooler looking & more rare & its made much better,i paid like 300$ for that POS back in the day &i only got 2 games beside the ones it came with
bulletproof2353 11 months ago
@iorel1982 nobody had cd burners back then so no need for protection. it was several years later that they came out and they were around $300 for the first year.

I always wonder why they made so many damn genesis
willmill77642 1 year ago
Just to add that the Genesis 3 uses a SoC-like array where most of the guts from the original Genesis were built into one single chip.
Problem? some games wont run due to incompatibility
Shadowlayer 1 year ago
Hey gamester 81 could you tell me if the 32x is compatible with the JVC x'eye? Also is the x'eye region locked?
Thanks
themusicman555 1 year ago
Thanks for letting me know the genesis 3 will play megadrive games, Ive seen a boxed genesis 3 here in England which I'm now going to get

Do you and The Nintendo Nerd chat about your collections? I sure would like to be there and chat along.
zatarra2fast 1 year ago
Hey I aslo have the sega genesis system and master system power base converter. You need to use the Av/ Out cables instead of the T.V. adapter cables. And I got Double Dragon for 3 bucks @ a used book store. Good luck Gamester81! Your Collections ar my only hope.

There's a few more variants after the MegaJet. WonderMega 1 & 2, AiwaMegaCD, MegaPC and a few more. There was also a Power Base Converter released for the MDII.
impu2ity 1 year ago
What, no Radicas? I realize Plug & Play systems aren't your thing, but I think Sega actually made them and it wasn't a pirate thing like the NOACs.
Anyways, awesome video dude.

Will a model 2 Sega CD work with a model 1 Genesis?
marlinlee 1 year ago 6
@marlinlee
Yes it should be compatible.
Gamester81 1 year ago 4
@Gamester81 Actually it is; I do own the model 1 Genesis & Sega CD 2 combination. Only downside I find is just a little too wide for my liking.
BahamutOmega 1 year ago
@marlinlee
It does, I have mine hooked up right now. Never had a problem.

hey dude - I think the only other machine missing from your Genesis/Mega Drive collection on this video would be the Japan only Wondermega - not to be confused with the JVC X'Eye, which was actually based on the follow up, WonderMega M2. Would love to see your review on that system with it's high quality S-Video output and MIDI and Karoke support, as well as better sound capabilities.
Have you managed to get this one yet?
