  • That discordant plectrum chord that cuts off the linking sound at the end makes this sooo much creepier...

  • This game stands the test of time…it is the best Myst game and is too epic to describe.

  • *sigh* maybe I'm just to clever but the game lasted me 5 hours.

    Not saying it's bad though.

  • "You may enter whenever you choose. Leaving, however, is another matter."

Gives me shivers everytime I hear that. It's the monotone voice that makes it so...scary.

  • if some one had the nerve and ingenuity to make a grate adventure game like the ones going around flash right know there would be enough nostalgic gamers to make it well worth the money

  • The best game of 1997: Final Fantasy VII? No, Riven!

  • cmon guys, you all know this game should be an fps:( whats better than playing in a world like this and then blowing all the trees and creatures up?

  • @Vancha112 go back to your halos, there is nothing for you here.

  • Reageren op deze video...

  • @Vancha112 That would be Halo. NOW GO BACK AND LEAVE US ALONE! You have nothing to do here! xD

  • i hate halo...

  • @Vancha112 Well... 'uh.. go back to wanking off to animals then! 'MKAY NAO?!

  • My god I remember this tv spot and i was like 7 years old when riven came out...loved that game so much

  • Leaving however... is another matter.

  • Haunting and captivating... loved it.

  • i have every myst game even real myst but riven is the only one I'm still playing!

  • Out of the 4, I think I truly love this one the most. The story was involved, the environmental details were gorgeously hand made, and the sound track was brilliant and evoked a sense of mystery to a rather unique world.

  • In my opinion, the best game ever created.

I kind of just want to LIVE in the world of this game...I have so many good memories from childhood with Riven...wow, what an achievement. Truly a work of art.

  • Its Gehn's theme, its on the soundtrack

  • RIVEN is the best game ever...

  • i agree, moiety.

i´ve got a riven t-shirt, and once i said "if a woman comes to me sometime and tells me "oh, Riven, great, I finished it, i loved it"..i would be in trouble. I would have to leave my wife and marry her forever.

  • It really is

  • Ahh...the memories. The sky is so incredibly blue, the waters so clean, the noises, sounds, and music are crystal clear and hauntingly beautiful. I have no belief in an afterlife, but wouldn't mind if it approached the beauty of this game.

  • so very true

  • wow...my situation is almost the exact same as yours, right down to the fact that it took us 4 years to beat with breaks and stuff

this game is an absolute gem. one for the ages, truly

  • the best. hands down. I play this game time and time again and never grow bored of it. =)

  • I think this was the best game in the whole series - the graphics, the characters, and the setting were amazing. Gehn was probubly the best Myst villian in opinion.

  • me too i loved the dinos :D

  • Favorite. The Best.

    No contest.

  • Good to see other people that still have vibrant memories of this wonderful game, and the serie as well. I just can't find any titles with such depht nowadays. Graphics, story telling, overall design and puzzles were so amazing! Que de bons souvenirs de ce jeu magnifique d'une rare qualité. Il n'y a malheureusement plus de place pour ce genre de jeux d'aventure et de reflexion. C'est foutu!

  • its funny that this game was done over a decade ago and still holds strong among most games today, it's amazingq

    riven forever

  • One of THE greatest games of all time

  • definately!

  • Let me add something to my previous comment. Lumigecko below me is ABSOLUTELY right. I was raised on this stuff (Myst was the first game I ever played when I was 7), and while growing up, all those other shooters on the market just looked dull and bland. Now that I've played a few, I know that there are definitely good ones out there (Half-Life 2, Bioshock, Fallouts). These games SHOULD always reign supreme, even though they won't with uber-violent insanely popular trash like Gears of War.

  • Quite possibly (in my opinion) the best game ever made. By anyone.

  • RIVEN was the best of the five games. It had all the wonderfull things of MYST and a much better story. The visuals were so stunning, a truly GREAT game.

  • Great game for its time! Would have liked to have seen more stories as you play.

  • This is how a game SHOULD be.

  • its how they were back in the golden days.

  • Riven was such a cool world to explore, I wish it hadn't collapsed at the end, they should make a new myst game where you revisit Riven, too bad Myst 5 was the last one.

  • no, your wrong, myst IV used real actors. it had by far the best stroyline and graphics of the series. it was myst V which had animations and free movement

  • Myst IV is the best in the series

  • No Myst 2 and 3 were

Myst 4 started using animation instead of real characters

  • Actually, is was Myst FIVE that used animation instead of real people. Revelation still had real people. Play it again.

  • i LOVED it when they used real people in the game, it gave it that different feel and more realistic :)

  • Real people were also in "Realms of the Haunting". I loved that game, too. All these old games had a THICK environment. I miss it :-(

  • i agree riven rocked but the third one exile made me puke that constant moving was insane but still excellent graffics

  • personally i thought the whole "dream" thing was jumping the shark a little. I perfer Exile, though Spire is possibly my favorite age ever (Ameteria a close second).

  • wow thats odd, i liked spire least of all... thats probably because i got stuck on the frequency locks puzzle for SOOOOO long!! and that was the only puzzle i used hints for

  • oh I agree, the frequency puzzle was a real pain, but the rest of the age makes up for it in my opinion.

  • i remember this game! its what got me into myst. I played it first when i was about 10 and was hopeless.

  • Same lol eeeee

  • I loved to think the Disk#2 as a Demo for the game...

  • Is it just me, or is the voice-over a little hammy?

  • For it's time this game was awesome. It is EASILY my favorite in the Myst series. It was a great challenge and everything just looked so damn GOOD!

  • Get the DVD edition instead. Not only is it a great space saver, you finally won't have to do any more disc switching!

  • Yeah, I remember buying this game the day it came out, and doing all that disc swapping. I always tried to do everything I possibly could on an island before leaving, to prolong the disc swapping. That DVD edition makes the game flow so much better.

  • I just thought of this game the other day, and i went looking for the discs but am missing one - #2 thats like the most vital one!!

  • The visuals in this game were great for it's time.

  • I never saw this commercial. Thank you for to whoever had the VCR on when they were watching tv.

  • haha :)

  • Riven, the first myst game I ever played...the reason I became obsessed with myst, from watching my uncle play Riven when I was only 10 years old and playing it on my own later.

This game seems to have become a part of me.

I love Riven, oh how I wish I could stand there! Touch the water, stand in the presence of the great fish, link to another world.. that thought won't escape me. That is why I keep going back to play Riven, for more of that beauty and awe..

    So beautiful.

    So beautiful.

  • Words out of my mouth. Think of all those extremely imaginative grownups....

  • thanks for sharing this! my first myst game and my most beloved...

  • THE BEST GAME EVER... man the Puzzles haunt you till you solve them.... MY FAVORITE.

  • my favorite game ever

  • my favorite too, and i played dozens in this cathegory

  • Heh.. I bet nowa days you could build Riven in a 3D engine easy, just the texturing and lighting would be meticulous, and everything would be close to pre-rendered lighting wise... .. Heh.. that'd be a real challenge I think.

  • I'm trying to do my best not to spoil the Myst experience by not using any hint guides and figuring out everything by myself (I do like solving puzzles, after all). Riven, as I could tell, is huge and already I don't know what to do next. I still haven't finished Myst yet so after the first one I will go in order.

  • this is the only myst game i havent got )'=

  • well, its the most challenging and in my opinion the BEST OF EM ALL..

  • oh thanks now i want it more...

  • my favorite game!! the history is bored when you do not understand it, but the graphs are unbeatable. I love it

  • This game was impossible without a cheat book.

  • It's downfall really, it felt less like a journey and more like work.

  • Ah, this nearly 10 year old classic is one of my favorite game teasers.

  • Link Sound is pretty...eery. It was for me as a child anyway, since it's comparable to Friday 13th

  • A great Movie.. but in the End there are two Sounds not coming from Riven: The Link Sound from Myst and and Monster Scream coming from a M1

  • The Link Sound is a general "Myst" trademark...doesn't really matter that much.

  • This makes me want to play Riven again... Ohh... Why can't they release RealRiven?

  • that would be really cool =0
