Check out Bob Pettinicchi Tribute to Gene Krupa which is listed on the Gene Krupa Drum Solo Page on Youtube. It is his little tribute to a legendary drummer. Bob was 66 years old when he played the drum solo. Bob met Gene Krupa when he was 21 years old when he performed in Hartford Ct. with Charlie Ventura. Also saw him perform in New York City at the Metropole on Broadway. Gene Krupa...a legend and a gentleman. Thanks. Hope you enjoy the video..
All of the popular music now-a-days has little to no musicianship (literally some music has no instruments actually being played) thus why i listen to older music. A time when the music was more about the artist being happy with his music piece and his hard earned skills with his/her instrument. Its all about the money now...but the music world has had its ups and downs and hopefully we are heading for a better time. I

Still genre is jazz :p But i really wonder how on earth you can comment about legendary jazz drummers with great compositions and artistry to be can riding metal or trash drummers. Same here im 13 and i have played the clairenet for 5 years and i have a book where i play the goodman parts with a cd in the backround. I love sing sing sing. You go Bro!
@RoverHD It is. Mozart is classic, Beethoven is classic and Goodman, Krupa, Armstrong, Miller, etc. are classic in a way, too. Just as Lennon, McCartney, Hendrix, Morrison, Plant, etc.
Classic is anything widely recognized as timeless work of art that pushed the boundaries in it's time.
This version felt kinda rushed to me... like a kid who knows a song and really wants to play it for you so he blasts through it. Because of this I also feel that it loses some of it's swing and feeling - too forced.
@WingedDrant To me this sounds about right. I think this should have that quality to it. I always find a more swung version sounds too slow. I love the more intense sound. As a intro number it works wonderfully.

@NikkiAndSamShow336 Oh wow your 13? you will be broaden in many musical styles like i have been since I was 13 in 1981. anywhere from dark wave, synth, industrial, psychedlic rock, doo wop, soft rock, italian and french 1960's movie scores, and.................... big band.
I hear ya, but you might be suprised that there is good hip-hop and rap too! Try soundtrack for the show Samurai Champloo (Great show by the way) or Shotgun Weding Quintet, wich is a mix of intelligent rap and jazz. I used to hate rap and hiphop and to dislike swing also, I was a die-hard rock fan, but now I'm more open-minded. All the genres have something.
I've got into every type of music, loved all music with a passion my whole 39 years. From Chopin to Vivaldi, Ozzy to Ronnie J. Dio, disco, funk, soul, r&b, country, top 40, thrash, ballads, flamenco and so on but nothing, I repeat NOTHING compares to swing performed by these masters. Apologies to satchmo, Ella, and Sir Duke. I can only say that it is the smoothest hottest swingingest sound in town!
The drumming here is fantastic. Comparing him to RIch, maybe not quite the technique, but much more 'listenable'. His work here is really elegant - complements the other soloists perfectly. Deceptively simple.
@invention13 That's true, but Krupa can entertain a crowd. It's such a simple pattern, but executed so perfectly, not to mention that I love all of Harry James's and Benn's Goodmans's solo licks. He can get the clarinet in such a high register. (I love using Benny Goodman licks in my solos - my all time favorite tune might be when he does the blues thing from the A flat to the G, F, and D - marvelous)
@insoucciant I would venture, about 1%, but then again, only about 1% of old time music is still played today, and crazy enough, it usually isn't the A side either!
Check out "Bob Pettinicchi Tribute to Gene Krupa" Drum Solo on Youtube. It is on the Gene Krupa Drum Solo Page. It is my little tribute to a great drummer who I met when I was 21 years old. I think they should remake the Gene Krupa Story (Crazy Drums). Hank Azaria could play him!
gene, by the way, invented what was called the jungle beat-you can see why. harry james gave us the brief trumpet solo-he became a legend. and finally-benny goodman, the band leader. very famous during ww2.
that loving it drummer is GENE KRUPA, one of the most famous drummers of all time. believe it or not, these guys were considered bad boy outlaws back in the day. this song rocked before rock was even invented.

Does anyone know where i could get free sheet music for Harry James' solo at 0:36?????? I really need it for my school's bigband!!!!!! If anyone could tell me it would be greatly appreciated!!!!!!=)
Thanks so very much for posting this, now these guys were musicians!! Does anyone know what movie this was from? I have the Story of Benny Goodman and they feature this song at the end of the movie but I haven't seen this clip before.
Who's the fourth "trumpeter" here? BG sported only three of them: Harry James, Ziggy Elman, and Chris Griffin. It's amazing to see them. Thanks for posting this.

@sbwrn Ya I agree, You can just kind of see the music flowing through Krupa. I try to do the same thing when playing drums.

Wow, Gene Kruppa was one cool motherfucker.

@LorentzElena32 No,they express frustration, surprise, shit like that. Just because they offend you , that doesn't make you right.

Thanks for posting this.

and I thought the Beatles were good; Harry James, Benny Goodman and the incomparable Gene Krupa altogether in one band...not bad at all!
