I have a 16, and I prefer listening to great musicians like this and this kind of music before Justin Bieber, the wachiturros (Argentina), many other of today do not "make music" to the market. thumbs up if you prefer good music!

  • 1:54 I want more cowbell ! ;-)

  • I came here from Rockstar Games... WTF ?!?

  • Gene Krupa probably went in to the future, saw the movie "The Mask" and went back in to his time to make music ... :D

  • AMAZING!

  • Archer brought me here, gobsmacking talent made me stay.

  • Wow he's good

  • First drum solo of music history!

  • Cant wait to preform this for my university's swing dance social/event coming up on Jan 27th!!! It will be great!

  • @legomyemail Are you really gonna do that?

Sorry I don't know you from anywhere but I definitely want to see a video of that!

    Good luck :)

  • The slow camera frames couldn't keep up with Gene back in the day.

  • We can't do it man! That's discipline! That's like tellin' Gene Krupa not to go "Boom boom bah bah bah, boom boom bah bah bah, boom boom boom bah bah bah bah, boom boom tss!

  • Inmortales..

  • Gene Krupa was one freaking insane amazing drummer.

  • Check out Bob Pettinicchi Tribute to Gene Krupa which is listed on the Gene Krupa Drum Solo Page on Youtube. It is his little tribute to a legendary drummer. Bob was 66 years old when he played the drum solo. Bob met Gene Krupa when he was 21 years old when he performed in Hartford Ct. with Charlie Ventura. Also saw him perform in New York City at the Metropole on Broadway. Gene Krupa...a legend and a gentleman. Thanks. Hope you enjoy the video..

  • Man i was born in the wrong era. I love music and dance and todays music and dance do not do it for me like these old good band music do.

  • Wooooooooooow. Chills.

  • @NikkiAndSamShow336 biotchhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh!!

  • @NikkiAndSamShow336 i love rap and hip hop!!!!!!!!!!!

  • You can't top this style of music! It's so good, especially with such a great line up of musicians. Gene Krupa, what style & showmanship.

  • 1:44 steven colbert

  • All of the popular music now-a-days has little to no musicianship (literally some music has no instruments actually being played) thus why i listen to older music. A time when the music was more about the artist being happy with his music piece and his hard earned skills with his/her instrument. Its all about the money now...but the music world has had its ups and downs and hopefully we are heading for a better time. I

  • damnit gene krupa, i just pooped ma pants!

  • don't forget.

    gene was polish!

  • Man, nobody can drum like Krupa.Ned Flanders' parents explaining why they didn't punish him [as a kid]: "We can't do it, man! That's discipline! That's like tellin' Gene Krupa not to go [starts banging on the desk] "boom boom bam bam bam, boom boom bam bam bam, boom boom" boom bam ba ba ba ba, da boo boo tss

  • @TXRider Well, now I have to go find Ned Flander's dad..

  • Thumbs up if Ned Flanders' father brought you here.

  • 58 people have brain damage

  • look this song will take anybody to a very good state of mind! no joke young and old. the nex place that has a music box play it and watch people will move and tap

  • Telling Gene Krupa not to go "boom bap bap ba boom" is like disciplining a child.

  • @alexvlk perfect analogy

  • he's amazing

  • mitico jazz

  • Well he said classic, not classical music. :) So true it is classic. Still genre is jazz :p But i really wonder how on earth you can comment about legendary jazz drummers with great compositions and artistry to be can riding metal or trash drummers. Oil your ears and please notice that hitting fast is something, having tunes on drums is another. However Krupa does both together ^^

  • Thumbs if you were alive in this time!

  • jeeez. I've never seen anything like it before. bloody great.

  • This guy would be an epic metal drummer.

  • Gene Krupa is AWESOME!

  • thumbs up if your 3 years old listening to this in the year 3452

  • bahahaha - Krupa and his hooch and morphine - ROCK ON!

  • not trying to be rude here but we don't care about your age...just enjoy the music.

  • LOL Rockstar Games favorized this :)

  • @Screep5 i was just about to say that

  • How does an old heavy metal fan like me come to consider Gene Krupa as the greatest drummer ever?? Watch the video!!

  • still love to watch gene his bands all rocked, wonder why that is ???????

  • If i state my age will I get top comment?

  • @MrHendrix17 yes.. but since you didnt you will get an lol... shit man im in my first year of jazz studies in college... thumbs up if you are a teenager who is actually doing something with music instead of just telling everyone how cool you are! LAME VOTERS!

  • absolutely amazing, been drumming all my life and this guy makes you feel like you just started again

  • SMOOOOKKIIIIINNN!

  • Harry James has a big sound in his horn. Looks like he's got a 26 inch waist?

  • My father just burst into my room at 11:15 pm and demanded I watch this clip. I'm glad he did. XD

  • I listen to this and I'm 14. PAY ATTENTION TO ME!!!!!

  • im *insert age here* and i love this music

  • Personally i think rap and hip hop pale in comparison to these kinda stuff!!!! THIS ROXXXXXXX!!!!:D

  • super.

  • see krupa's hand go up high. showmanship. always remember seeing a documentary in the eighties about "bachman turner overdrive" and their drummer saying it's good for himself in a live concert to bring his free hand up high--showmanship. ha!// krupa was the original drummer showman--he delivered the drummer into the spotlight.

  • This grandma could see Gene Krupa and all the greats at Eddie Condon's Jazz shows on 52nd St. Thank Universe!.

  • Asking all music buffs here, which exact genre of music would you say this is? Swing? Jazz? Also what year was this?

  • @Skadoosh417 - The video is watermarked at the beginning as 1937. The style of music is Jazz but the genre is Big Band Swing. Great stuff!

  • Fabulous all the great guys together.....B.Goodman,H James and of course the Fab;G.Krupa....I loved this...thanks for posting it...

  • Does anyone know what movie this is from?

  • pour les inconditionnels comme moi , des bon vieux big band , n'est il pas Pierre Cusson?Y a pas le theme mais c'est excellent , avec benny Goodman a la clarinette , yes les filles

  • I like how Gene just stabs the snare, traditional is better then matches unless it is used for timpani rolls like here

  • Metal, punk, and Math rock owe Gene a HUGE debt. the man was a machine.

  • I love Big Band music, makes me feel like in an old movie

  • Holy shit! look at his hands at 2:03, he's really starting to fuckshitup on the drums.

  • Gene Krupa ...the original rock drummer....Way ahead of his time.....

  • The King of Swing...'Nuf said.

  • incredible

  • Same here im 13 and i have played the clairenet for 5 years and i have a book where i play the goodman parts with a cd in the backround. I love sing sing sing. You go Bro!

  • small cymbals they were using in the past...

  • perhaps the best band of all time from the Benny goodmen story

  • thumbs up if your a teenager listening to some of this classic music. :)

  • @MrDingdong1117 my grandpa told me about gene

  • @MrDingdong1117 rapid fast hot music

  • @MrDingdong1117 thumbs up to us :D

  • @MrDingdong1117 That awkward moment when this isn't fucking classical music. :/

  • @RoverHD It is. Mozart is classic, Beethoven is classic and Goodman, Krupa, Armstrong, Miller, etc. are classic in a way, too. Just as Lennon, McCartney, Hendrix, Morrison, Plant, etc.

Classic is anything widely recognized as timeless work of art that pushed the boundaries in it's time.

  • UNF dat clarinet.

  • This version felt kinda rushed to me... like a kid who knows a song and really wants to play it for you so he blasts through it. Because of this I also feel that it loses some of it's swing and feeling - too forced.

  • @WingedDrant To me this sounds about right. I think this should have that quality to it. I always find a more swung version sounds too slow. I love the more intense sound. As a intro number it works wonderfully.

  • i just fricken love this music. i love big band stuff forget this rap, hiphop, pop krap i stick with the oldies. LOVE IT!!!!! by the way im 13

  • @NikkiAndSamShow336 your so cool brewster :P, but joking aside thats pretty adult of ya

  • @NikkiAndSamShow336 Oh wow your 13? you will be broaden in many musical styles like i have been since I was 13 in 1981. anywhere from dark wave, synth, industrial, psychedlic rock, doo wop, soft rock, italian and french 1960's movie scores, and.................... big band.

  • @NikkiAndSamShow336

I hear ya, but you might be suprised that there is good hip-hop and rap too! Try soundtrack for the show Samurai Champloo (Great show by the way) or Shotgun Weding Quintet, wich is a mix of intelligent rap and jazz. I used to hate rap and hiphop and to dislike swing also, I was a die-hard rock fan, but now I'm more open-minded. All the genres have something.

  • I've got into every type of music, loved all music with a passion my whole 39 years. From Chopin to Vivaldi, Ozzy to Ronnie J. Dio, disco, funk, soul, r&b, country, top 40, thrash, ballads, flamenco and so on but nothing, I repeat NOTHING compares to swing performed by these masters. Apologies to satchmo, Ella, and Sir Duke. I can only say that it is the smoothest hottest swingingest sound in town!

  • lol @ the commentary

  • ha, like Sing Sing, but more so - it's a jungle in there!

  • Such a great tune, no words can express how good music makes a person feel.

  • Thumbs up if you knew this song way before LA Noire

  • do not mind the ppl who dislike... these ppl are the same ppl who rate up garbage like rhianna

  • That the stored images and play this well, you might want to say a miracle. I posted to thank and appreciate your gift for me.

(Using the Google translation was converted from Japanese)

  • Okay.. Do the people who do not like this know something I don't or are they just that horribly misinformed?

  • The drumming here is fantastic. Comparing him to RIch, maybe not quite the technique, but much more 'listenable'. His work here is really elegant - complements the other soloists perfectly. Deceptively simple.

  • @invention13 That's true, but Krupa can entertain a crowd. It's such a simple pattern, but executed so perfectly, not to mention that I love all of Harry James's and Benn's Goodmans's solo licks. He can get the clarinet in such a high register. (I love using Benny Goodman licks in my solos - my all time favorite tune might be when he does the blues thing from the A flat to the G, F, and D - marvelous)

  • Wonderful, just wonderful..............

  • 55 fucking freaks didn't like this?

  • Simply beautiful!

  • how somebody don't like this is stupid

  • Gene Krupa = King of Drummers

  • Get Down with you bad selves

  • i love how into it these guys are. Legs dancing and head bobbing

  • tham it people how it can be 54 deslikes ...

    the best music ever

for me its better then calssical music and everything

    jazz rules !

  • @gruzina This is clearly a very thinly veiled attempt to get thumbs up, please don't feed the 'thumbs-up whore'.

  • Wow. This is unbelievably great!

  • Man this is great. 3 all time greats.

  • Thanks for posting some great music here.

  • The test of this music,is the test of time. Just how much of current music will be played in 60years time?

  • @insoucciant I would venture, about 1%, but then again, only about 1% of old time music is still played today, and crazy enough, it usually isn't the A side either!

  • @insoucciant music is the road map of your life past

  • Check out "Bob Pettinicchi Tribute to Gene Krupa" Drum Solo on Youtube. It is on the Gene Krupa Drum Solo Page. It is my little tribute to a great drummer who I met when I was 21 years old. I am now in my late 60's, and still perform with bands in Ct..Mr. Krupa had a great influence in my playing throughout my life. Hope you enjoy it. Thank You.

  • No that was benny's this was la noire

  • also used in Mafia 2

  • this is real music. not only does it always bring a smile to my face, but in gets you tapping your foot. and if you look at the players there all professional but there still having fun with. this is a true classic from a great time for music

  • I see... this is only the middle of the instrumental. It's too bad they didn't play the whole thing because this is a great classic hit.

  • This is not the "sing, sing, sing" tune I've heard.

  • great!

  • now a word from our sponsor ..... GEICO

  • The 52 cats who disliked this video are finks who can't swing, ya dig.

  • Replying to month-old comments.

    Never change, youtube.

  • That piece is like 75 years and it still being played different places like movies and commercials, there are 1.7 million hits on this site for it, and my cousin the drummer studied it religiously, it is till fresh and exciting. There isn't a lot of "classical music" at the time that is remembered now.

  • @eotto2001 I agree with you 100%. Have you ever heard another song called "Sing, sung sing"? It is here on youtube. I hope that you get to check it out.

  • Notice Gene Krupa's drum set as compared to the monster sets of today. Yet, he got as much, if not more, out of that small drum set than today's drummers get from all that equipment they set up on stage.

I think Mick Fleetwood (Fleetwood Mac) and Gene Krupa would have been awesome playing together.

  • I LOVE this piece !!!! Thank-you for posting !!!!!

  • Mr Krupa is dope

  • Anyone heard that guy at 1:02

  • @ESC8781 This "guy" is benny Goodman, and it's his orchestra, and they're playing his composition...

  • @nicolaslee141 No I heard a guy scream.

  • @ESC8781 Now that you mention it, yep.

  • 52 people know that drummers will take over the world!

    Hooray for this awesome video!!!

  • diablo swing orchestra - a tap dancer dilemma

  • Dislike....WHY?!?!

    Great song...and nice speed!

  • Gene Krupa was so ahead of his time.. huge influence on so many drummers including Keith Moon, who's manic style was directly cribbed from Krupa's crazy drum breaks!

I think they should remake the Gene Krupa Story (Crazy Drums). Hank Azaria could play him!

  • Gene was killing these drums!!!

  • 52 people are jealous they cant SING SING SING.

  • SWHEEEET!!

  • Listen to Gene Krupa and if you can't hear Keith Moon you are totally deaf. Keith Moon was the Gene Krupa of Rock n Roll drummers.

  • gene, by the way, invented what was called the jungle beat-you can see why. harry james gave us the brief trumpet solo-he became a legend. and finally-benny goodman, the band leader. very famous during ww2.

  • that loving it drummer is GENE KRUPA, one of the most famous drummers of all time. believe it or not, these guys were considered bad boy outlaws back in the day. this song rocked before rock was even invented.

  • @HSECMAN yes very true accourding to my parents & grandparents ....

  • The drummer is LOVING it.

  • @lankyj91 That drummer is the GREAT Gene Krupa

  • See that drum set Gene is using? You can see it at the Smithsonian National Museum of American History in Washington, DC.

  • AT 1:43 you will find out there syncing it becuase the soloist clarinet takes a breath and plays a note while his lips are off the mouth piece. still cool though

  • This is proof that once upon a time there was "MUSIC." You can feel their passion. Their energy is contagious!!!!!

  • @sbwrn Ya I agree, You can just kind of see the music flowing through Krupa. I try to do the same thing when playing drums.

  • Wow, Gene Kruppa was one cool motherfucker.

  • ugly words don't express anything but poor taste!

  • @LorentzElena32 No,they express frustration, surprise, shit like that. Just because they offend you , that doesn't make you right.

  • @LorentzElena32 And no brains. Good for you.

  • @kabills seems like your taste in music failes

  • @kabills n wht according to you is real music?

  • @kabills 3,590 people aren't gay for 2pac like you are

  • @kabills no, I think it's just you.

  • @kabills fucker

  • The literally don't make music like this anymore! One of the coolest songs ever!

  • Does anyone know where i could get free sheet music for Harry James' solo at 0:36?????? I really need it for my school's bigband!!!!!! If anyone could tell me it would be greatly appreciated!!!!!!=)

  • @Badbadbri

Have you tried the website, Lyrics.com ? It may be a bit of a stretch, but also try google search for Harry James sheet music. Hope this helps you.

  • @sbwrn Ok thanks i'll try that:)

  • @Badbadbri There's no sheet music for improv, buddy.

  • I think 52 guys got testis cancer!!!!!!

  • Rockstar fav this Video :D

  • And that was Harry Jams on the Trumpet Solo! Classic!

  • 52 Travis Barker fans (as of 5/11/11)

  • Thanks so very much for posting this, now these guys were musicians!! Does anyone know what movie this was from? I have the Story of Benny Goodman and they feature this song at the end of the movie but I haven't seen this clip before.

  • i love how the drummer looks at the beggining

  • Who's the fourth "trumpeter" here? BG sported only three of them: Harry James, Ziggy Elman, and Chris Griffin. It's amazing to see them. Thanks for posting this.

  • and I thought the Beatles were good; Harry James, Benny Goodman and the incomparable Gene Krupa altogether in one band...not bad at all!

  • Just about everything about this video is perfect... sweet little time capsule from better times... forever brilliant and unspoiled.

  • i played this in my middle school jazz band, it'll mean alot to me if it's in the game

  • i bet krispy432 was delighted when he found out rockstar faved his video =)

  • so im guessing this songs gonna be in la noire awesome!!!
