This ad is meant to be just fun. Iorn Bru is the number one soft drink, its loved for its great taste. And yeah Scotland isn't the greatest country in the world but neither is America or England

Again the whole point is that "ginger" had fallen out of use and that's why Barr's are using it in the advert. You must be quite young if you don't use it in Lanarkshire. Ask your dad!

Unfortunately, while not everyone uses the term "ginger" Barr's ARE using it in their advert. Email them and they'll confirm that the word is to describe the type of drink, not the colour. Also you'll see from the other comments that quite a few folk still use it as well. Sorry your dad is English!

Mate I live in bellshill (lanarkshire) and I always thought that irn bru is ginger in colour and as another name for any other drink.

No it isn't! Again, the word "GINGER", is used in the Glasgow / Lanarkshire to describe any "carbonated" drink - it didn't originate from Irn-Bru. Whether it's cola, lemonade, orangeade, tizer, it doesn't matter, it's all "GINGER". Nothing to do with the colour, not specific to Irn-Bru - any "carbonated" or "fizzy" drink is known as "GINGER".

To take it even further, anyone living local to any of the Barr's factories who produce Irn-Bru and other carbonated drinks also refer to the factories as "Barr's Ginger Factory" or the "Barr's Ginger Works". Out in Blantyre, Lanarkshire there also used to be the "Robertson's Ginger Factory" where Robertson's made their versions of the usual carbonated drinks. The whole point of the original comment was because the use of the word "GINGER" had fallen away to be replaced by "juice" and "pop" etc!
