KWD - I did not see a link to the adapter itself - because I have the same camera i would love to research this adapter, do you have the exact details, please?
BTW - what a jerk Vitto is - ho hum I guess folks with low self esteem try to compensate by putting others down - personally I really value you sharing your knowledge.
Dude, your videos, though very informative, are way too long. I came to learn about DOF adapters. What I got was a 3 part video (totaling +21min) about everything from interlacing to in-depth features of the XHA1.
Try shortening it a bit. I don't mean to sound rude just trying to relay some advice.
Agreed, but every now and then you need the extra half-stop, and a couple of dB gain in-camera will work better (and give less noise) than trying to do it in post, unless you're willing to accept a darker shot.
Are the support rods necessary, can you shoot with the letus on the camera without the support rods? I want to buy it, but I'm trying to save money, and was wondering if I could save money and not get the rods at a later time.
@vitto Personally, I like this video...and the ...Uh...Ummm.. are not that distracting. Just try listening to Paul Woods (Color Commentator) during a Detroit Red Wings radio broadcast. He also says a lot of...uh's...used to distract me to no end, but you get used to it. ( and yes, he is also CANADIAN)
For the love of god would you pls screw the whole thing on together???!!! I,ve been waiting for you to do it but you never did i have the damn thing but i dont know how to screw it on!
Well when you look at his website he has a documentary which he presents exceptionally well suggesting he is more than competent at delivering dialogue without all the unnecessary ums and ahs. I guess its more of a constructive criticism than anything else. The difference between script or non scripted pieces. Well done Kyle ;)
im always amazed by people who are annoyed by this type of thing. I never even notice it!Just try to catch what he's saying and "ehh uhh" wouldn't even register.
Thanks to everyone who has thus far pointed out the fact that I say ummmm and ahhhhh too much in this video series. It is duly noted, and uhh, I will not repeat this problem in future videos.
Great information loved the footage! Quick question I am thinking of purchasing a Sony HVR-A1 camera witout the stock lense. Will that be necessar in order to adapt the Letus? Will I run into problems? Hope to here from you.
Was thinking of buying the Redrock adapter. Its very expensive but I like the look of that brand. Its like 2500 for the Hd bundle. Any alternatives to save? I believe one day these 35 mm adapters will be built right in. This red one camera looks great,
Hey brother. I talked to a director of photography who told me i might not not have to buy an adapter that editing programs are starting to come out with 35mm plug in programs. Could you comment on this.
You can buy plug-ins to simulate the film look, and with programs like after-effects you can apparently create narrow depth of field - but it would be extremely time consuming to do that, as you would have to do it manually. Most plug-ins just simulate film stock appearance and frame rates, but do not affect the depth of field like the Letus does. It's much better to just use an on-camera adapter, and it saves a lot of time.
wrong wrong wrong...95% of your work should be done IN CAMERA...the GIGO rule aplies. Garbage In = Garbage Out...good shots take good equipment, and LOTS of takes.
what i dont understand: because you said a1 does not have interchangeable lenses, you need an adapter to use other lenses. But WHY does letus35 offer adapters for xl2 xl h1? I thought they do have interchangeable lenses Oo. Help ;)
Because if you put a 35mm slr lens directly on an XL2 it will have a magnification factor of over 9x I believe, making it unusable except for extreme telephoto shots. The LetusXL allows you to maintain about the same focal length as the original 35mm lens.
Hmm.. If I order a Letus35 adapter for my XH-A1 - Do I have to buy anything more to get it to work? Since I don't have any expensive still-camera lens.. =)
You do need to buy some slr lenses. Used, they are not too expensive. You can get a Canon or Nikon 50mm lens for $20-$30 for a basic one. Other lenses are usually between $100-$200 on eBay. You'll also need to buy some AA batteries :-).
Do you have any batteries to recommend for the camera? I am buying it in some weeks from now on. Battery that lasts 6-12 hrs or so since the original doesn't last over an hour does it? I am kinda a nubie when it comes to extra-equipment.
Excuse my weird english, I am Norwegian =)
Also, find a Canon EF 50mm / 1,8II lens.
Will that do the trick?
(fotovideo(DOT)no(SLASH)aspx(SLASH)prdinfo(DOT)aspx?plid=10549 if you want to check it out.)
Any regular AA batteries should be fine. I'd guess they'd last about 4 hours or more of countiuous use before you have to change them. A Canon 50mm F1.8 lens should be fine as your main lens. Hope this helps.
Yes, you can get larger batteries - but make sure you measure the compartment, because from what I remember, the height is limited by 63mm. Some batteries are taller than 63mm, and will not fit. The largest battery Canon makes for the XH-A1 is the BP-970G.
Yes, focal lengths stay the same using this adapter (plus or minus about 5% I'd guess). There is no magnification effect as far as I know, so it should stay 24mm equivalent.
The aperature of that sigma lens is f2.8, so in the end, it will let in the same amount of light as any lens with a f2.8 apearture. So look for lenses with wide apeartures. I would stick to f2.8 or lower if possible. I think Nikon has a 16mm f2.8 lens, which I believe is the widest maunal focus lens that Nikon has made. Keep in mind though, that your image will be greatly distorted when using fisheye lenses - if that's what your looking for, then that's great.
That lens may not work if it is an autofocus lens. Many newer autofocus lenses only work in manual mode when attatched to a SLR camera body. The letus adapter only works with lenses that have non-electronic, physical manual focus capability.
To answer your second question, yes and no. Yes, the lens will let more light in because it is fisheye, and therefore has a wider field of view. Field of view (unlike depth of field) refers to the actual image area the lens captures. That sigma lens has a 180 degree field of view, which means it is letting more light in than say a lens with a 50 degree field of view. However, that does not mean the image of the sigma lens will be brighter, it just means there is more picture area.
GOD BLESS HOMIE! I JUST ORDERED THE LETUS35A FOR MY DVX100B BUT I GOT THE CANON MOUNT. YOU NEED TO CHARGE Quyen FOR THE PROMOTE! HAHA! I BOUGHT THE DVX JUST TO RECORD THE SERVICES AT CHURCH. NOW I'M TRYING TO CREATE SHORT FILMS AND DOCS! FOR THE LORD OF COURSE!

Would a Sigma 15mm f/2.8 EX Diagonal Fisheye lens work?
Since its fisheye, would it allow more light into the camera?
What are your thoughts..
Thanks,

sluggercitylee 4 years ago
f/2.8 defines the amount of light that enters the camera, fish eye only tells you something about how the image is projected (distorsion)
Want less DOF ? try a f/1.8 or f/1.2 lens
