I had the mod "theives arsenal" with me. So before I actually went to the main coffin, I used grease arrows all over the floor outside. So when he came, he slipped. I was kinda surprised to find him unconcsious as I snuck out!

You probably know this by now, but you don't have to go down into the catacombs. Since they're the same guy, you can just kill him after you walk upstairs and talk to him. As far as I'm aware, you get no Bounty.

@khfan51 to do the quest correctly *spoiler warning* you need to go into the catacombs, kill all the vampires, then search springheel jaks coffin and find a diary. It will explain that he is immortal because he is a vampire etc. Then you kill him and get the boots. Your welcome.

It's a bug. Unfortunately, unless you reload an earlier save, there's nothing you can do about it. On PC it's fixable, but not on 360.

i just got 2 piece of jewlery and 3 pieces of amour and enchanted it with 20 % chamelon spell on each piece to make 100 % chameloin and then its easy to kill him then and go pass other vamps and monsters lol

You could buy the Apotheosis staff from the staff shop in the imperial city. Technically any decent staff would work, but Apotheosis is the universally acknowledged nuke-stick of the game. It's expensive, but good to have around for characters that don't specialize in killing stuff.

I don't think it can be stolen, since it's part of his actual merchandise (Oblivion is retarded that way). It costs around 3-5 thousand, depending on disposition and mercantile, but it's a well-made investment for characters that aren't the best at fighting.

No, sadly, I think it's actually impossible to steal. You could try for an enchanted dagger or some such- since he's a vampire, fire does an impressive amount of damage. Or you could do as one of my friends did, and just run like crazy, grab the boots, run back outside, and let the guards handle whatever follows you (be sure to save before trying though- certain important characters also roam the streets, and seem to be under the mistaken impression that they can take on a full-fledged vampire).

Well, the thing is the fight with Jakben is pretty much unavoidable- he has the boots, and the fight is scripted. If you want, you could do this an unorthodox way: run like crazy, and let the guards to do the dirty work, or kill him when he's still pretending to be an innocent noble, loot the boots off him, and pay the measly fine for murder, avoiding the whole vampire cave ordeal.

would you belive it? in the final quest in the theives guild questline, there is a way to keep the boots of springheel. when you are falling, just cast a power that fortifies athletics 50+ and have a boost to health power. if you cast while falling, wow! you get jaks boots! lets go run a marathon!
