WOW. Is it awesome to see a match at that place on film or what?! I read about this match and how great Habibi was about the pin. I finally get to see it! Habibi was obviously great just knowing his stats but it is amazing to see the power Blubaugh had in that pancake. Usually i see more momentum required to pull it off, but Doug just stopped him and flopped Habibi over. The shot looked like Habibi wasn't committed. Was Doug a farmer? That strength is crazy
i spent 3 weeks in eastern europe with blubaugh in 1992 on a cultural exchange wrestling trip. what a great guy. he told us of this story about this match. he did mention that he was losing significantly when he pinned hahbibi.
Emam Ali Habibi Goodarzi ONLY won GOLDS , not silver , not bronze ..... since 1956 until 1962 he won 5 gold medals . 1 at olympic games , 3 at world championship , 1 at asien games in 1959 .
Hello, Doug Blubaugh has always been uncle doug to me, I am in fact a Blubaugh and he has been staying at my house and will be staying here for some time. If anyone is interested in speaking with our helping some of his causes feel free to talk to me any time.
bearhugs44 what a great bout between Blubaugh and Habbibi some great bridges in this bout.Really liked the ancient building in the background where once wrestling took place. Thanks for this match
Habibi was a great wrestler no doubt, you don't become a multi time World Champion without wrestling at your best. Both men wrestled very hard in this match. Habibi was offense while Blubaugh wrestled defensive. It was nice to see this match take place.
I've worked with Doug and have been his friend for 7 years now. He's a great man and taught me alot which I translate to my kids when I coach. He's an amazing guy. Speaking of which I just got done talking to him on the phone! lol
He's doing ok. Still takes his meds for the usual. Last time he came to town he said he was gonna go back to OK or either IN and start a garden. He's had some other personal issues going on which I won't discuss over here which has taken an effect on him.
what a fun guy he is. i have a picture of he and i sitting on some fountain in Budapest Hungary. one of my favorite momentos.
i didnt realize how badly he was loosing when he pinned habibi! it crazy how wrestling styles have changed in 50 years. he didnt have a very dynamic stance, did he?habibi was so easily penetrating his stance because doug was so stiff kneed. what a cool place to have a match. thanks for the info!
it's funny to hear American's tell this story cause they make it sound like Blubaugh just went out there and kicked his butt. Looks to me like Hababi was winning pretty soundly and just got caught.
Classic match, great win for the US. RIP Doug.
