Yes- unfortunately, Elaine was a victim of MGM's "belt tightening" in the mid-'50s; Dore Schary could not [and DID NOT] know how to run a major studio in an era when television ate into motion picture attendance and profits....and his "realistic" pictures were at odds with the "traditional" movies Metro was famous for...
@fromthesidelines - And it was 20 years after this film that Ms. Stewart surfaced again - as co-hostess of the CBS game show "Gambit" with Wink Martindale (by then, she was married to Merrill Heatter of Heatter/Quigley "Hollywood Squares" fame, a union that remained to her death); she also co-hosted "High Rollers" with Alex Trebek.
At 0:53 is where Elaine Stewart made a memorable appearance (very short, but it created a lot of talk about a "future star". She never really "made it" in that way, but did appear in a few films. I was told she recently passed away. RIP Ms. Stewart.
@tallpaul521 Absolutely!! You'll be pleased to know that I've written lyrics to "The Bad and the Beautiful" and created a jazz composition with it where it starts as a ballad and then goes into kinda a samba feel with both English and Portuguese lyrics, so it's not only "The Bad and the Beautiful" but it's also "O Vicioso e lindeza". I look forward to recording it and sharing royalties with the Raksin estate; it would be a good way to give back to my incredible former teacher, a class act!
@rhonddanunes Please let me know when you've recorded this -- I'd love to hear it. I'm sure you have the "Bad and The Beautiful" film soundtrack CD. It has all the studio sessions for all the music in the film, including alternate versions of the opening theme. I watched my "Laura" DVD the other night, with Raksin's commentary about the why and when of his music placement in the film - fascinating.
@tallpaul521:I will let you know & I've sent you a friend request! Instead of a cd I actually have a vinyl LP of David's favorite film scores, with him conducting the London Philharmonic. The liner notes are written by him & are eminently cool....I've thought of perhaps reposting them on facebook or even setting up a fanpage for him on fb since there isn't one yet...:-(
anyone know why Elaine Stewart didn't have a bigger career ?...she was featured in so many mags in the early 50's as the next big thing and then she disappeared...was she one of the casualties at MGM when they dropped so many contract players ?
I Love this Video and also I checked out your Channel. Very interesting! If you need any help getting this Video and your Channel exposed to where it is on top in all the searches. @rhonddanunes Raksin gave us two of the greatest film themes ever -- "Laura" and "The Bad and The Beautiful". Film score masterpieces.
