  • Ms Sills captivates something with the heartfelt emotion and passion that she was able to convey through her interpretation and her impeccable legato line, supported by incredible breath control, makes her rendition of Rossini absolutely unforgettable! Listen to the way her embellishments with trills etc all flow with the composer's score and do not detract in any way from what Rossini had written. If there is such a thing as the Queen of bel canto coloratura, then certainly Ms Sills is crowned.

  • "Parmi vederlo" is lifted from Pacini's opera Amazilia (Naples, 1825). It was a popular aria di baule in the 19th century. One of the scores Schippers used to create his edition of this opera must have had this piece inserted for the prima donna.

  • Sills, was simply unreal in this role, which you will NEVER hear sung again like this. My favorite Sills role. Puts the hair on my arms on end.

  • The soprano that NEVER fails! OMG 8:42 kills me!

  • I'm so grateful to have heard her in this role at the Met in 1975. I missed the debut performance, but caught the third (standing room) and then got a seat for it when it opened the fall season five months later. I wept at the beauty of this cavatina and also during her second act cavatina which she sang lying on her back on a huge pillow in Maometto's tent! It sounds kitschy, but she made it theatrical magic.

  • Oh what wonderful ! Sills is THE only whomakes crying like Maria Callas !

She was and she is the only one who has understound all what cCallas brought to the Operatic world ! So moving

  • Perfection! Brava Beverly!
