CrushedJustice. needs to know that what he sees IS a tornado. This is the base cloud of the twister, the funnel and mayhem is below it, the supercell part is above the rounded base he sees. Watch "tornado chases train" This is the same storm from another train nearby. For more on that incredible day, search here on Y.T.
This has nothing to do with tornados. There are two horrid things of youtube: one, the ridiculous irritating long low ads that appear when u are watching videos, and the other one, is the slow speed of videos, when they keep stopping for buffering, just makes me crazy. HEY YOUTUBE PEOPLE YOU ARE WAY OVER THE LINE NOW, ARENT U GONNA DO SOMETHIN ABOUT IT?
@BizzWin2010 Did you read the description? Obviously not. Here it is...
"After narrowly out running a tornado (See other video) the Storm with a huge cloud wall can be seen in the distance moving in parallel to our train engine. This was filmed in Griffith, Indiana on 6/7/2008."
Although they were running from the twister that they filmed touching down behind the train.
There is no such thing as an f6. The Fujita Scale, and the Enhanced Fujita scale are both designated by damage. Since F5's are completely destructive, there is nothing above it. Some F5's, like Jarrell Tx, really stand out though. It dug trenches into the ground and skinned cattle.
That cloud has the round " wall cloud " look to it; a tornado may be ocurring under it. Tornadic thunderstorms produce an immense amount of lightning so a tall, metal object may be struck more than once as the storm passes over it. I can understand the train crew not stopping until their train has cleaned the junction; no sense in making the situation more dangerous!
@CrushedJustice You are wrong...this was a meso that spawned many tornadoes for about an hour and a half thru will and cook counties in IL on June 7, 2008. How do i know? I chased it that day. That thing was a half mile wide wedge which i guess is why it looks to you like just a thundercloud. this video was from a distance and maybe u just cant tell it was on the ground from this vid...but trust me...it WAS.
Why do some people often use the words "fuck" & "fucking" in their speech? My theory is, those people aren't experiencing the actual joy that the word crudely (& insufficiently) describes.
When I'm hungry, I usually talk about steak a lot. When I'm thirsty I often talk about how nice it would be to have a tall glass of cool, clear, clean water.
If I wasn't getting any camel toe, I would probably use the word fuck a lot without even noticing it. That's my theory anyway & I'm sticking to it.
If it was recorded on 6/7/08 in said location then there are no reported tornados for that time. Just looks like a real nasty supercell. There were however reports from Aug 4-5 of 3 in that area. Possible error on posters part of either date or description. Reserve judgement due to lack of direct observation in video. It is possible one was there but no proof that I could find. Really nicely formed storm though.
ok, but it's not a tornado, it's a thunderstorm. a tornado would be visibly rotating. cool looking storm, but it is not a tornado. also you can't say it's an f4 or f5. AFTER a tornado, they do damage surveys and then rate it on the scale EF0 to EF5. you can't tell wind speeds by looking at it! amateurs!
@jesusfreak0818 It's what is known as a "rain-wrapped" tornado. It's in there Einstein you just can't see it. Thunderstorms don't do the kind of damage that thing did June the 7th of 2008 when F4 to F5 damage occurred.
@kevjay777 well, it may be that the THUNDERSTORM we are viewing had a rain-wrapped tornado buried deep inside, but we AREN'T seeing the TORNADO, einstein, which was my point. and AFTER the storm, you assess damage. so the commenters saying how it's a huge tornado and therefore must be an f5 are in error. a skinny ropy one can be an f5, too. i have quite a lot of meteorology training. that's not a tornado, it's the entire storm.
@jesusfreak0818 Okay it's a thunderstorm with a tornado in it. Some advice. With a handle like Yeshua freak maybe you should place more emphasis on humility & honesty rather than trying to humiliate a sincere guy which he obviously is.
Next time you claim to have had "quite a lot of meteorology training" at least do a little more research before you make such a claim. Any meteorologist worth his salt knows that what we see is not "the entire storm" as you assert. Just the part we can see.
@jesusfreak0818 Now you're making sense. No joke I really do need to limit my caffeine intake. I think this could be a lesson to both of us. For me the lesson is to continue being respectful to those who make snide remarks at me because by doing so, I was able to avoid another "scolding". If I'd attacked you like many YTers do you would have probably been nasty instead of just arrogant.
For you the lesson is, you make the most sense when you're trying to be a jerk. That's kind of scary really.
hahahahahahahaha all those people in those cars were trying to flee in the other direction from the tornado and then the train comes right to intersection and crosses at like 2 miles an hour.
@xTexasxHerox Yes, it looks like an outward downdraft... Probably formed due to clouds around the cumulonimbus that were pushed down by convection. It is possible the whole thing was a giant wedge tornado forming, but it wasn't formed in the video... Oh well, it still looked cool.
@CrazyMike2345 Actually, it can. Lots of buildings get hit multiple times, even in the same storm. Though it's not likely unless there is something to attract it.
That's funny, the video ends with the camera facing right in front of my mom's house. She lives on S. Lafayette. I heard about the tornado and called to ask if she was okay. She had no idea that any sort of horrible weather was going on. All the damage ended up a few blocks north of her.
What a different world we live in today. I would call this "train runs parallel to rain storm". Only thing missing is a reference to man-made global warming and the storm being bush's fault. he's a racist, you know.
@Steviethetornadokid i think it was 0 cars this is the same train from the tornado chases train video that was shot looking back towards the rear of the train this was partly out the front from what i could see.
@salemcripple Agreed. Is was not a Tornado. Some people think that when they see a funnel cloud, they see a Tornado...Not a Tornado until it touches the ground. But in this case it was not even a large funnel cloud. It was actually a Mesoscale Convective Complex, a class of Mesoscale storms associated with warm frontal weather.
These storms have cyclonic characteristics and often produce squall lines, an elongated line of severe thunderstorms that can produce multiple tornadoes.
@salemcripple@salemcripple I've studied Meteorology. I find storms facinating much like the storm chasers. I used to think these people were crazy. But once I learned about Meteorology and weather systems, it somehow pulled me in much like learning to fly...which is what I did. Sometimes you get hybrid like storms. These cloud patterns are associated with Supercells too. Supercells are isolated storms noted by large jellyfish looking anvils at the top which can be concealed in other clouds.
@FujiR500 I love big storms! Half my family lives in Oklahoma, so i've seen my fair share of supercells :-) That's interesting that you're a pilot as well, cuz next to storms, cars, planes, and trains are my favorite things lol. I'm an auto tech, but i want to get my pilot's license.
@salemcripple Ha! I live in Florida and we get ugly tropical storms with some of the worst lightning you've ever seen. I also have family that lives in Oklahoma City and they've told about the massive storms that occur in the great plains states. I' used to work on cars as well. I worked at a private automotive shop. We repaired and serviced BMW, Mercedes, Volvo, Volkswagen. I got out because we lost alot of clients to military deployment. Out shop was near an Airforce base.
To those who say there isn't a tornado on this video, you will not see it from this view. However, there's a good chance there is one on the ground just under that massive wallcloud that's rotating. Beautiful shot of that supercell!
@susanneroonie Prob because there was no tornado. What you see here is a supercell. Basically a giant thunder storm. Tornadoes do come from these, but a supercell alone, does not a tornado make.
@554687858 it's not bad for the plains. At least there are trees, and everything is green. But there are no mountains. You want to see some beautiful country side, come to Northern cali, western Oregon, or western Washington.
@salemcripple Actually, I live in Northern California. I guess the grass always looks greener on the other side. The Redwoods are drop dead beautiful, but you'd better not be claustrophobic. The views are measured in feet, not miles.
@554687858 I was born and raised in Oregon (still live there). I love the natural beauty here. Although half my family lives in Oklahoma. It's a nice change of pace/scenery when i go back and visit. It's nice for a while to be able to see for miles, and i LOVE the storms they have. But wouldn't want to live there. flat land, and sparse trees might as well be a barren waste land in my opinion. Plus i gotta be near the ocean!
@salemcripple cont... Which brings to mind another thing i love about it here. I'm never more than an hour from everything. The big city, the backwoods trails, the lakes, rivers, the ocean. It's all within an half hour/hour drive!
@salemcripple You and I think in the same vein. I love the West coast for all the reasons you listed. I actually live on the San Francisco peninsula (about halfway between San Francisco and San Jose). I guess I mentioned the Redwoods as a comparison to the plains. I've only been up your way a couple of times in my life, but you hit it on the head as to the natural beauty. For me, my first love is the back country of Yosemite. The scenery above 10,000 ft is breathtaking.
@554687858 Cont....It's very stark, but very gorgeous. What we don't have down here in the bay area is weather. I suppopse some people would find that a blessing but I love thunderstorms and they are few and far between. You always want what you don't have. And as you well know, once spring hits the West coast, you can say goodbye to the rain for the next 6 months. I'd love to see it rain every couple of weeks during the summer but that just ain't gonna' happen. I probably shouldn't bitch.
@salemcripple its fun here in oklahoma, the flatlands give us ample time to get the camera and film. and the eastern side of oklahoma is heavily forested and hilly, its a completely different scenery than the western side of the state.
When you have a supercell with a striated base like that. It is a very good clue that the storm has a massive circulation and a nice updraft. It is a good sign that a tornado is occuring or will occur. With an updraft like that large hail is a very good possibility as well
fooking newbs who thing that big circular cloud is 1 big tornado its not its a fooking Textbook SuperCell i see no tornado at all either im blind or there is no tornado but there could be one in the back of the supercell
@scienceguy474,dude if youre gonna insult us then maybe you should wait till youre older or learn to fucking spell cause what you just typed looks like the typing of a 5 yr old.
not really a tornado, the cloud formation is actually a mesocyclone. it is actually the cloud that the tornado decends from but not an actual tornado :D
ya the tornado looks to be at the back of the supercell meaning it propably is moving the opposite way of the train. so i doubt its moving paralell to train. but still awesome.
@kilroywashere123 Locomotives can weigh as much as 240 tons, it's unlikely even this tornado could pick it up but it could probably knock it off the tracks.
How many people you GIT there in those loco's ... I see at least three people on that doule engine unit.. Two in this unit & at least one - as seen - in other unit.. # of a crew? hell = NZ's had ONE (driver only) for at least ten yrs.. if not longer (because ALL shunting controls (turnouts etc0 are done by CTC ( stuff all mainline shunting work - mostly longhaul - no stops (except for passing loops) for single line workings
i love n oklahoma 5.5 earthquakes f5 tornados that pick up full sized malls floods 3foot snow storms and blizzards and damn i wounldnt wunna live ne were else
@TheAwesomeBlossom i have the added benifit of not giving a shit in IMs text or camments about puncuation and its sad thats all you can mouth about thats what everyone mouths about on here but the truth is no one cares
@jmr1068204 It's not all cracked up to what you think it might be. Working long hours in all weather conditions, about 3 days or so off a month at home (unless you have senority). It's one of those job's where it takes a special breed of person to do.
Butte Montana i went there with my mom and sister last christmas we noticed there were less buildings and then we asked some ppl why they said they had a tornado like 2 months ago along with the earthquake they had there when i was 7 not forgetting that the town has atleest half the people it used to and bigtimber they actually murdered every child everyone there is in jail! The only safe place in Montana is Helena And The Greenish area.

@salemcripple @salemcripple I've studied Meteorology.
FujiR500 1 year ago
@FujiR500 I love big storms! Half my family lives in Oklahoma, so i've seen my fair share of supercells :-) That's interesting that you're a pilot as well, cuz next to storms, cars, planes, and trains are my favorite things lol. I'm an auto tech, but i want to get my pilot's license.
salemcripple 1 year ago

ROFL. That's a thunderstorm, not a tornado.
fedaykin6 1 year ago
I wonder why there no sirens in that town.
susanneroonie 1 year ago
@susanneroonie Prob because there was no tornado. What you see here is a supercell. Basically a giant thunder storm. Tornadoes do come from these, but a supercell alone, does not a tornado make.

That's some beautiful countryside
554687858 1 year ago
@554687858 it's not bad for the plains. At least there are trees, and everything is green. But there are no mountains. You want to see some beautiful country side, come to Northern cali, western Oregon, or western Washington.
salemcripple 1 year ago
@salemcripple Actually, I live in Northern California. I guess the grass always looks greener on the other side. The Redwoods are drop dead beautiful, but you'd better not be claustrophobic. The views are measured in feet, not miles.
554687858 1 year ago
@554687858 I was born and raised in Oregon (still live there). I love the natural beauty here. Although half my family lives in Oklahoma. It's a nice change of pace/scenery when i go back and visit. It's nice for a while to be able to see for miles, and i LOVE the storms they have. But wouldn't want to live there. flat land, and sparse trees might as well be a barren waste land in my opinion. Plus i gotta be near the ocean!
salemcripple 1 year ago
@salemcripple cont... Which brings to mind another thing i love about it here. I'm never more than an hour from everything. The big city, the backwoods trails, the lakes, rivers, the ocean. It's all within an half hour/hour drive!
salemcripple 1 year ago
@salemcripple You and I think in the same vein. I love the West coast for all the reasons you listed. I actually live on the San Francisco peninsula (about halfway between San Francisco and San Jose). I guess I mentioned the Redwoods as a comparison to the plains. I've only been up your way a couple of times in my life, but you hit it on the head as to the natural beauty. For me, my first love is the back country of Yosemite. The scenery above 10,000 ft is breathtaking.
554687858 1 year ago
@554687858 Cont....It's very stark, but very gorgeous. What we don't have down here in the bay area is weather. I suppopse some people would find that a blessing but I love thunderstorms and they are few and far between. You always want what you don't have. And as you well know, once spring hits the West coast, you can say goodbye to the rain for the next 6 months. I'd love to see it rain every couple of weeks during the summer but that just ain't gonna' happen. I probably shouldn't bitch.
554687858 1 year ago
@salemcripple its fun here in oklahoma, the flatlands give us ample time to get the camera and film. and the eastern side of oklahoma is heavily forested and hilly, its a completely different scenery than the western side of the state.

When you have a supercell with a striated base like that. It is a very good clue that the storm has a massive circulation and a nice updraft. It is a good sign that a tornado is occuring or will occur. With an updraft like that large hail is a very good possibility as well

hurricaneioke 1 year ago
not really a tornado, the cloud formation is actually a mesocyclone. it is actually the cloud that the tornado decends from but not an actual tornado :D
bipolarlemon 1 year ago
@bipolarlemon Your right about the cloud, however; it looks like there is a Tornado on the ground at 1:53-2:09
Nathan16341 1 year ago
Holy shit that thing is huge!
Son37Lumiere 1 year ago
ya the tornado looks to be at the back of the supercell meaning it propably is moving the opposite way of the train. so i doubt its moving paralell to train. but still awesome.
adulby 1 year ago
Man...were you considering jumping off? What do you do if a tornado comes towards a train???
kilroywashere123 1 year ago
@kilroywashere123 Unless you can get underground a locomotive is probably the next safest place to be during a tornado.
Son37Lumiere 1 year ago
@Son37Lumiere
But what about the tornado that goes by this train???
Ever since the "Wizard of Oz" I have had nightmares about them...and I have never seen one before!
kilroywashere123 1 year ago
@kilroywashere123 Locomotives can weigh as much as 240 tons, it's unlikely even this tornado could pick it up but it could probably knock it off the tracks.
