  • i just installed same cam in my car, and it wont idle right, it burns real rich..its a 350 motor,76 cc heads, 60 over flat top pistons..did u have to do anything to get car tuned to cam? email me at dual455@aol.com 803/389-2537..steve

  • @vdawn36 Figure out your compression, sounds to me like it is a bit low for a performance cam. You need about 10:1 to make it work good. I used .125 dome pistons on my open chamber heads to get 9.8:1. Check out my video of the 55 with a comparable lunati grind.

  • What's the lift on the cam?

  • Sounds amazing man. You should be very proud.

  • Hey, is this the smallest thumpr cam, the 12-600-4?

  • pleas tell...specs of cam and will it work with flat top pistons? 70cc heads

  • sounds awesome

  • what is the cam brand ,lift & duration and whats been done to the motor?

  • Nasty I want to put one in my 79 Malibu Classic what is the lift and duration on this cam ?

  • Awesome!

  • Nice classic! Question on the crossover pipe... what other function does it have besides balancing the exhaust? Thanks! I personally like how it sounds on yours.

  • i have a chevy 350 block numbered 3970010 being prepped for my car, installing a aftermarket endurashine intake, thumper cam from summitracing, and undecided if im going holley or edelbrock but defenitely going 600. plan to go 2 1/2 inches on shorty headers dual exhaust and using super 40s mufflers.will this give me the sound yours makes? o and its going in a 59 impala 2 door hardtop, so does placing mufflers in certain spots along the exhaust pipe make it sound better? thanks, reyes.

  • @reyescarrillo o and i plan to run straight pipe with the flowmasters, no cat. thanks

  • @reyescarrillo Edelbroks are just old school AFBs. Holleys make more power. Hell, a Quadrajet makes more power than an Edelbrock.

  • @kenzo5716 my engine came with a stock quadrajet, should i just rebuild that? and after opening my engine i saw its a 4 bolt main. but had a guy tell me dont believe the hype, that theyre actually weaker than 2 bolt mains cause of placement of bolts. any truth to that? and is the thumper cam just for sound or does it actually increase performance?

  • @reyescarrillo Quadrajets are good carbs, but tricky to rebuild. If the carb works ok now, don't fool with is. If your engine is a 327 or larger, use an "out of the box" Holley 750cfm Vacuum secondary. You can get a good used one off ebay for cheap. Get one as close to new as you can afford or just get a new one. 4 bolt mains are stronger in all motors except the 400. However 2 or 4 bolt are both good engines no matter what. Forget thumper cams. The ISKY 270 mega Cam is good. 2000 stall conv.

  • @reyescarrillo I don't care about sound. I care about performance. That's why I do NOT use inferior Thumpr cams.

  • @kenzo5716

There are 3 different stages on the "Thumpr" cam, maybe more now. I do know that the "mother-thumpr" and "big mother thumpr" both have close to, and over .500 lift w/ 107 degree of LSA. Good combo of performance and sound. I like the sound first personally.

  • @MrAss707 I have a group of guys I run with. Several use the Thumpr cams. I use Isky Mega cams. The Thumpr cam guys don't like running me, not even the rollers. I currently run an Isky 280 hyd with 1.6 rockers on the intake per Vizzard Racing suggestions. I Use a Victor jr w/2" spacer and 750 dbl pumper. Have ported Topline heads w/2.02 and 1.60 valves. I use a 30 degree back cut on valves. I use Hooker long tube headers, built turbo 350 w 3000 stall and 4.10 gears. Pulls 429 dyno hp

  • @kenzo5716

Small block stroker sounds like...those wind-up tight and those Th350s are plenty snappy.

Why the 30 degree back cut valve, better seal?

I just came up on a 1973 Chevy C10, shortbed stepper. Im about the 4th owner, very well takin care of and all the trucks history ( original COPO order doc, all tune-up, all parts/upgrades, ect) are in two binders. Came factory w/ a 1970 ss style 454, TH400, and 12 bolt rear. Ive only had the truck for about 2 months and it's pretty fun.

  • @MrAss707 Nope. It's a .060 over 350 squared and decked. Mega cams are Oval Track cams, make much more power than Comp cams. Just ask Joe Sherman Racing. trick doesn't work in all applications. But in certain cases, especially when using stock or production-style valves, this simple machining operation can be worth an amazing amount of increased flow.

Read more: about 30 degree back cut at .carcraft. com/techarticles /116_0612_valve_angle/viewall .ht ml#ixzz1hdD R4lrg

  • @MrAss707 I had a pretty stout 383 stroker, Old style edlebrock RPM manifold/ with 2" spaer, built turbo 350 and 800 dbl pumper with a 3500 stall. Couldn't keep the tires from boiling. I ran a 292 Mega cam, long tube headers, dual 3" dynomax Race Bullets. and 3.73 gears. It was in a 1985 short bed fleet side. Sounds like the 73 C10 is a sweety. I have an 85. Mean sounding cams don't always bring the moolah home when the money is laid on the table at the old air port we run at.

  • @MrAss707 All factory vortec heads run a 30 degree back cut. I love your car. Wish I owned it. Had a blown 396 55 once with a 396. Too much for the street without tubbing about a foot on each side. It was a 4 speed. I should have used a glide. It would have helped. Tire boiling problem again. I could drive all over town only using 4th gear. LOL!

  • @kenzo5716

Sounds like you have a lot of fun when it comes to automotive.

My '73 needs a few items: Vacume Modulator for the 400, high-torque mini starter ( I still dont know the tooth count on the flywheel ) , the shift indicator dont work on the B&M mega shifter, it's just stuck in park but totally drivable, I have a new sterio system going in.....

All the metal is good, straight body, good glass, nothing missing, custom molded tailights I believe off a 64-66 mustang in the stepsides

  • @MrAss707 Modulators are easy. To see if it's bad for sure, pull vacuum line off, stick Q-tip inside it. When you pull it out if it has red tranny fluid on it, it's bad. If needing one, just pull old one straight out and stick new one in. They seem to always come set just right.for flex plate, big block has a 168 tooth.Shifter, pull it out, check for worn out bushings and missing carter or other locking pins. Oil everything. Get heavy duty flex plate, thicker. Others crack. Summit!

  • @kenzo5716

    Good advice, Thanks for that.

The guy whom sold me the truck mentioned the vac-mod and the vac-gauge does not work inside the truck, so very soon ima try that easy trick with the q-tip. Right now it's not shifting as snappy as it should, or could. I have an extra shifter, the "quick silver" also B&M, wondering if I could toss a part or two around ta get the "mega-shifter" working right.

  • @MrAss707 if vac-guage and modulator are both not workinhg, make sure they are not connected together. follow both lines closly. They may even be "teed" together. Sounds like a possible vacuum leak to me. On shifters, when bushings get worn things get misaligned/out of adjustment and a rod or something might even have dropped off.. I would pull it and go through it. You could try shifting parts around. Might work.

  • @MrAss707 Better bet yet, pull modulator hose and put a vac-gauge directly to it. It runs on full time vacuum. If shes a stocker or close, you should get around 20 inches of vacuum. Remind me later to give you some tips on re-curving distributor and a old time timing trick. Also, get somebody inside to floor gas peddle when not running and make sure your getting full throttle. Butter flys should be straight up and down.

  • @kenzo5716

From what I understand there are a few different types of vac-modulators, before i buy a new one I'll use your advice to check first although I am pretty sure the vac-mod is done. After the guy explained a large history of the truck to me, the first item he mentioned was the modulator, he said thats why the gauge dont work inside the cab

  • @MrAss707 put a vac-guage on modulator hose first. Look for around 20 inches of vacuum. If it ain't got it, you have a vacuum leak somewhere. Check all vacuum hoses carfully. Bend them and make sure they aren't cracked. Check where it hooks up, either to the carb or manifold. They are probably teed together somewhere. Then try another modulator if everything checks out. Do the simple things first. You don't want to just go out and buy a new modulator without these checks. Save money.

  • @MrAss707 Also, depending on type of carb. Be sure vacuum line (if connected to carb) is connected to correct port. It should be the lowest towards manifold. It is the one with full vacuum at idle. The other port is for the distributor hose.

  • @kenzo5716

Im running a Holley, 670cfm "street avenger" I have not checked the vac-lines yet for proper routing.

  • @MrAss707 you can google "Holley, 670cfm "street avenger" and it should show them to you.

  • @MrAss707 The other is "Timed Vacuum" which delivers vacuum only after the throttle is opened. It's also called the . Distributor port is usually located on the passenger side of the primary metering block, just above the idle mixture screw on Holleys. If your distributor is equipped with a vacuum advance, I strongly recommend that you use it. Tranny uses port that has full vac at idle.

  • @kenzo5716

I have an HEI distributor w/ vac-advance and Im pretty sure the line is hooked up. I think if I replace the old vacume modulator with a new part, as the former owner suggested the day we made the deal. I just picked up a new timing light, id like to check my timing too, and I want to get a summitracing, high torgue mini-starter. Santa Rosa Hydromatic has vac-modules for TH400s @ $25 and I may pick up some fresh line.

  • @MrAss707 OK, it will be very interesting to see how a new modulator could effect the factory vac- gauge. LOL

  • @MrAss707 make sure your HEI hose is connected to a port that has no or very little vac at idle.

  • @MrAss707 Get that new modulator in yet? Let me know what happens.

  • @kenzo5716

Not yet, Im thinking after the new year, but soon enough.

  • How much of a lift do u have on the cam?

  • I put this on loop and cranked my speakers.

  • could you make vid on the under belly of car plzz and thats incredable love that sound nice car to

  • any regrets puttin a big cam im thinkin of puttin in a thumper cam in my 4x4

  • Hell yeah, i got a 1980 olds cutlass that im in the middle of rebuilding a 350 sbc that my brother put in before i bought the car from him, the motor was a half ass job and he threw the exhuast like a dumbass. Now im wanting the same sound, are u runnin straight pipe or u throw a cat in there? I was thinkin straight pipe with some super 40 before the rear end. Think i might get close to the same sound without the thump cam?

  • GD thats sounds so good. would like to hear it on a launch form behind. please make another vid

  • sounds amazing keep up the good work

  • haha not gonna lie, I don't think I can see a Bel Air as a muscle car haha. It's too..nice looking.

    But sick ass sound though!

  • luvin muscle, hatin ricers!!!!!!!

  • Way KOOL....love that cam and pipes!!

  • barking like a mean ass dog i like big blocks over small blocks but thats the best sounding small block ive heard in a while

  • Nice 57', you should come over to my page to see ours, almost a twin!

  • the best camera on youtube finally

  • very nice car but it's a shame that there are a set of flowmasters disgracing it put a set of magnaflows or pypes on this beaut

  • nice sound. how does this engine behave in city traffic with this cam? do you have enough low rpm "grunt" ? just asking because i'm putting together a mostly stock 350 and i like the "sound". the engine is going into a heavy car so i need drivability and torque. will i get that with a cam like yours?

  • what size cam are you running? and what headers are those?? sounds beautiful!! looks evn better!

  • Take the dam car out bitch!

  • What compression are runnin for this cam?

  • very nice sound!

  • That is the sound I am after for my truck I cant wait!!!!!!!!!!!!!! That sounds awesome I love that sound.......What do you have as far as stall coverter and the cam and heads

  • Move the blooming thing !! I can idle mine in my drive way too ! So?

  • Move the blooming thing !!

  • lets hear you rev it up a little...

  • ive looked through the comments, and have been wondering was lift and duration it is. i have the same engine you do, same carb..etc. thanks and beautiful sounding.looking car

  • big mutha fuckin thumpin cam

  • What are the specs on your cam? Im putting a motor together and was just curious.

  • i could listen to this all day

  • My dad used to have a '57 Deal Ray. Beautiful car:)

  • I want to put one of these in my truck..can you put one of these cams in a stock engine? mine has headers, with 2.5 inch exhaust all the way back

  • @meshuggah6pantera oo dunno man i think you have to port the stock heads, bigger crank, pistons etc. but hey i dunno im just guessing.

  • sounds good!!

  • where did you buy your cam at? Or did you buy the engine with it already installed, and if you bought the cam separate how much did you spend on it? The reason I'm asking is because I have a 1985 Chevrolet Celebrity that I am currently in the process of restoring, but instead of keeping the original 151 Iron Duke Tech4 engine in it I am planning on dropping a 283 V8 with a thumper cam in it instead.

  • wicket

  • name every single engine mod you have done. this is fucking amazingggggg

  • how much was the cam if you dont mind me asking? and it sound sexy!!!

  • Nice car what size thumpr cam is that

  • Now that obama owns GM more cars like this will be on the road...oh wait.

  • @killaskillz52 You wore the lobes off the cam in 30 min of run time? Yikes. Sounds like you didn't do the procedural steps to break the cam in. Probably why you didnt like the performance, lol. You need a good moly-based assembly lube on all the cam journals, lobes, and lifters. Then you need to top the engine off with a high zinc break-in oil, like Comp Cams makes After that, make sure your lifter pre-load is spot on, and the engine is ready to run 2500rpm for at least 20 min no less or else...

  • bad man whats under the hood?

  • My dream car.

  • Sound great, but is the front wrecked? Lets see the whole thing...

  • hey man very nice sound whats cam part number or size so i can find one im building a 61 chevy apache 10 pick/up any help would be great thanks great car man sweet ride

  • i cant wait to get my big motha thumpr what cam did u get cuz im getting the 2500 - 6500 rpm

  • what is the xact numbers for this cam because i loove this sound. nice radical cam

  • When you dive a 57 belair you dont worry about miles per gallon, you worry about gallons per mile hahaha great car especially the color.

  • I could listen to that sound all day!god thats sounds good, I cant wait i just orded that cam as the start of my engine build for my little s10,

  • Hey I nerd a little help. I got the same cam as u do. But I don't know if I need springs or not. I have a goodwrench 350 260 hp with 350ft tq. Do I need springs.

  • dont know how to inprove on that, very nice and distinct.

  • Wow, that sounds nasty! Bet it moves.

  • Hit the gas, too much idling. Nice car though.

  • nice sounding ( 57 ) looks good too !!

  • you say its a crate motor so do you mean its stock? if so what size cam is that and did you have to replace the springs? im wanting a thumpr cam for my 1990 chevy 350/700r4. i just got done putting 2 1/2 true dual 40's no cats

  • Sounds good! I think I can smell a hent if race gas.

  • @adamberg666 damn str8

  • Are you running the Thumpr or mother thumper or which cam?

  • @SMiller5488 that sounds more like the thumper cam i have a mother thumpr in my truck. and it sounds different.

  • dude this is the best sounding car ive heard with flowmasters, nice job

  • What are the specs on the cam? is it a solid roller? I also have a 57. That sound GREAT! well done!

  • that fuel pump sounds allot like mine.. is it the summit pump almost like the holley blue one?

  • What engine is in the car. Is that a 283 or something new. I want to put a cam in my original power pack 283 for a thump idle.

  • if you read the description it says 350

  • Sounds good! I just ordered an American Thunder exhaust kit in 3" with Flowmaster super 40's for my 572 big block. Also ordered a set of Doug's Electric Cutouts. Check out my car on Facebook just search for Street Bully or google Street Bully 572

  • What fuel pump is that?

  • Love the sound. Am guessin it is a true dual with no crossover pipe? Where in your exhoust did you mount your mufflers? I am looking for a this same sound on my car and want to make sure. Thanks

  • You are guessing right, true dual 2 1/2 inches front to back, no crossover. Mufflers are right before the rear end where exhaust pipes bend and go over rear. Hope it helps, good luck and thanks for watching.

  • @QBANBELAIR

Can you look at the cam card, and tell me the lobe seperation number please?

  • I heard this car running, and told the wife to get off me, I hear a cam!!

  • Best sounding comp cam I ve heraring running the mutha thumper

  • clean your yard up.nice car

  • does anyone know if these cams sound as good at rpm as they do at idle?

  • you can get the thumper cams from lunati mostly a 5k sometimes a little higher cam they just use lots of overlap etc but to me why have the sound if it doesn't run hard,, i have a comp roller that has a 298 dur, 246 at 50 109 c/l 598 lift. and sounds as good as it runs,, pulls like a bastard at 3-8k i shift at 7400

  • who engine is this

  • i would want to have it like all the other comments but i have one lol ....... very nice in good nik

  • what are the specs on that cam?

  • Sounds like you lost a few bolts in the muffler. J/K : )

  • Sounds very healthy! Love that distinct Flowmaster sound!

  • one bad ass sounding 57

  • BAD ASS !

  • omg! i want it =D

  • nice!

  • the chevy starts and i jizz in my pants lol this is a beast

  • So what sort of power does this tough-as-nuts sounding 350 put to the ground with that 600 cfm carb and that easy-like-Sunday-morning intake?

  • hows the vacuum with that cam? do you run power brakes?

  • He probably has a brake pressure reservoir.

    What size thumpr cam?

  • sweeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeet!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Best sounding bel air I've ever heard

  • I can smell the gas... *drools*

  • fuckin BRAVO!!!! 5*'s

  • sound alot like my car of course i dont have that thumping cam :)

  • Sounds really nice. What size cam do you have?

  • Man you just can't beat flowmaster

  • sound great i have a ? if u would have had the super 44s would it take away from the sound of the cam

  • what do you mean, like you wouldn't be able to hear the cam? not true at all, i've run open headers on my truck while i was welding up my exhaust and i could still hear the cam and i only have a Lunati Voodoo idle-5000rpm cam

  • That sounds so sweet.

  • Sounds great like a American car should sound scaring the jap cars till they piss there radiator fuid on the ground .

  • ha!

  • nice!

  • sounds great

  • Hey, just saw your video, very nice looking truck and awesome sound.... I love these thumprs. What tranny/gears do you have?

  • 350 with 3:08 gears. I need a converter, do you like the one you are running? Stock works fine but I could use a stall

  • This video is the reason I went with the thumpr cam. Our set up is pretty close to the same except for heads and I'm still running a stock converter. Check out my videos and tell me what you think. Got to love that thumping sound!

  • JUICE IT!!!!!!!!

  • damn that sounds nice

  • Hey I finally got the cam put in my Monte, have you had any problems with it idling after its warmed up? Mine runs fine but stalls out at stop signs or red lights if i dont keep my foot on the gas a little and my power brakes will go out untill i get back up to speed.

  • Hey, no idling problems after is warmed up. I do have the same issue as you when at stop signs or red lights, mine wont stall but idles really low and I have to keep my foot on the gas just a hair. Power brakes don't go out on mine. I haven't had time for a fine tune session, right now it's very close to being tuned but I know maybe it's not there yet, I'm thinking maybe that's the cause and it will go away after that. Let me know what else you find out, thanks, Mike

  • @QBANBELAIR

i know its been a while but i had similar problems with a edelbrock performer rpm cam and it turned out to be a stall converter, not sure if you have stock stall or what but put one in where stall speed is about 200 rpm higher than the low end of you cam powerban

  • @QBANBELAIR

Big cams need more initial timing too run nice a low rpms. get it up to 22-24, should help a lot. Love the same btw !

  • @QBANBELAIR

Big cams need more initial timing too run nice a low rpms. get it up to 22-24, should help a lot. Love the sound btw !

  • @QBANBELAIR

Big Cams need more initial timin, around 22-24 degrees that will fix you low rpm trouble and probably give you some powerbrakes back as well. Love the sound !

  • @QBANBELAIR your engine has a lot of vacuum is what it sounds like my Chevy blazer has a really big cam and does tend to do that because there is not allot of vacuum

  • @tpooleATL its because its loadin up with gas at the light try going to a performance coil and the brakes wont work because that big cam dont pull alot of vaccum

  • sounds like it's idling about 650-800 range maybe?

  • Now THAT is a true American Muscle Car. I love that rumble it has. I just bought a thumpr cam and am going to install it into my 99 Chevy Tahoe soon (350 vortec v8) I hope she'll sound as good. Keep it clean man, nice ride.

  • what's it idling at?..

sounds a lot more choppy than i'd think for being the smallest one.

  • I just followed Comp Cams recommendations on how to break it in (included in shipping box), make sure you put assemb lube generously on all lobes and contact surfaces and change oil and filter after proper break in. Hope it helps, Mike

  • I just purchased this cam....any tips on break in?

  • Vacum and power brakes are ok so far. Thanks for watching, Mike

  • nice car! how is the vacuum at idle? power breaks ok?

  • Is that the roller version or the flat tappet? Sounds like solid lifters? Great sound!

  • Flat tapped, thanks for watching... Mike

  • sounds sick. just put one in my bb 460. just dyno'd it . catn wait to get it in the car.

  • Super Höllen Mega Sound

  • that means as much as "sounds awesome as hell" ;-)

  • I have an 87 Monte Carlo SS with a 350 and im about to put this cam in it. How rough is it at idle when you're sitting in?

  • Idle is a nice thumping sound, wouldn't call it rough but it sounds great, turns a lot of heads and I get a lot of compliments and thumbs up. Watch the video of my friend driving it, it's idling there, just go to my videos and you'll hear it there. Thanks for watching, Mike

  • Ok thanks man, i went ahead and got the mutha thumpr. I just need to find an engine hoist and I'll get to work on installing it, I'll be sure to post a video of it

  • can you run this cam in a stock 350 or do you have to put stronger springs in?

  • My engine is all stock, did not change springs. You need to check specs for yours before you pick your cam, some of these need bigger springs, thanks for looking, Mike

  • Sounds awesome. this is what i link to in the forums when someone is asking about thumpr cams. I run the big mutha thumpr in my car and love it.
