  • wonderful lesson

  • thank you for the lesson! the explanation is brilliant, so are your tunes

  • hey there! really nice playing!

one question, what is your opinion about your guitar?

  • @foulis Thank you. It's pretty decent. Not on par with my Suhr Classic, but not bad for the price.

  • @rotren Hey, just wondering for theory purposes, what key is this in?

  • @rotren Suhr guitars are very impressive guitars... very expresive to and very expensive !

  • I searched "daft punk da funk guitar" and this sh** comes first vid? YouTube is fucking up

  • i love it but its so difficult to only hit the g and a notes while also strumming the mute

  • hey robert, what pickups do you have on the guitar? love the tone. and what amp?

  • @mojoefly Fender Vintage Noiseless. I think I used a Vox AD50VT for that demo. Hard to remember though, it was 4 years ago.

  • @rotren hey thanks, sounds really good.

  • very inspiring i going try

  • Thanks so very much, incredibly helpful.

  • What kind of strings do you go on that strat boss?

  • @jcschmehl1661 Daddario 10 - 46

  • good teaching,i love it.thanks

  • Loved this lesson. Is this in the key of D? I tried this as a 1,4,5 12 bar blues pattern in the key of D, but the 5 note (A) didnt sound right. Any advice here?

  • @ecojot I think it's in A minor, buddy. Try it.

  • thats pretty good. i got it in one. thanx

  • i really like the tone of your guitar.. what amp u using? dont think my Marshalls gona produce that sound hahah

  • Funk guitar is not s technique, it's a feel. How do you guys come up with this stuff

  • @Galacti23

funk guitar = right-hand muting. so yeah, in a way it's a technique.

  • Man, this is great, but discouraging... it's soooo hard! I think I'll just take up bass!

  • Thanks...Love it.

  • nice video!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • @tehbackmaskr

Agree agree!! Just follow your ear..you'll pick up on whatever grip/riff or lick sounds(feels!) funky

I play none of the stuff mentioned in the vid , xept the strum and still come up funky.

No fancy scales either just average chromatic stuff thats all

A sense of rythm and play with that is what you need and just let it rip

Who cares 'bout what finger you use or how you move your pick-hand ??

  • good stuff, funky and bluesy, like Stevie Ray Vaughan

  • Hey thanks for the lesson. I took up guitar 1 and a half year ago, since then i was really keen on doing a lot of shredding and stuff, well my picking has improved y now i can play some fast licks, but then i wanted to play a song with this kind of technique, and i realized that my strumming hand/wrist is very steady and its kinda hard for me to this, so what "more basic" lessons would yo recommend ? Thanks, sorry for english

  • I dont get it...

  • AMAZING!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • FUNKEEEEE

  • 0:42 pac man

  • Are you per chance from Canada? You sound like a Yooper, or southern Canadian...

  • @luckyartbytiff i think he is just German or European of some sort.

  • @diphead5 German or European..Yeah, because both are countries...Idiot!

  • this dude sounds like jackie mason

  • it gives it more funk if you strum all the strings

  • that looks like a deluxe players strat .. great guitar!

  • A person's color has nothing to do with it.

  • you made me pick up my guitar again. thanks

  • thank you

  • good lesson. thanks

  • nice

  • muy bueno!!!!

  • The outro riff was really awesome and funky.

  • For recording that may be true, but for playing live the opposite can sometimes be desirable, depending on what the rhythm section is doing.

For instance it's a break with only guitar playing - then the percussive effect can be pretty kickass.

I sat in on a live jam the other night and the bass player on one song got lost... so instead of playing stuff that would have sounded bad, I opted for some syncopated muted strumming and judicuous use of a wah wah. Total porn track stuff. ;)

  • "To play de funkeh blues like dis..."

  • Guitar tone is a important element to funk. Fender is THE guitar hands down for it. If using a Stratocaster use the out-of-phase positions on pickup selector switch; Either pos. 2 (bridge-middle) or, pos. 4 (middle-neck). It appears the poster is using pos. 4 for a less brittle tone. Telecaster is also a excellent choice for funk.

  • a 335 is a popular choice too.... but a singlecoil snap just works well.

  • yeah, i like the sound of the strat for the funk than my les paul..strat has this awesome transparent sound for funk

  • Hey does somebody here knows a reall good funky band??

I love funk and I wanna hear more good funk thanx

  • BOOOOOOOOOTSAAAYYYY

  • definitely listen to some red hot chili peppers if you don't already, the 1991-2000 stuff would be the best for funk.

  • Parliament. Funkadelic. Prince. Maceo Parker. Chaka Khan. Rufus. Bootsy Collins. Curtis Mayfield. Jamiroquai. Rick James.

  • are those the noiseless pups

  • muchos gracias from poland :)

  • diggin that sound..

  • Thanks a lot !!

    let's go training ^^

  • brother i have a boss gt 10 how can i get a funk sound like the one you have here helpme out

  • clean amp with some reverb is all it sounds like he has, single coils if possible. Maybe add some wah or auto wah/envelope filter if you have it.

  • i learnt how to play this the first 30 secodns of this vid and i aprrictiat what u have done good job and i like how u put the funk together i always go the other way if u know what i mean

  • thank you... from Brasil

  • Fender Deluxe players strat ?

  • god dang you good

  • How can i get my guitar tone to sound like that?

  • that's a really strat tone. aren't many other guitars that can sound like that.

though any singlecoils could get close enough, with gain as low as possible, bass turned down slightly.

  • you cant teach soul....
