On the original studio version, after he plays the real killer lick (3:24) it fade out quickly and leaves you wondering what did he play next. Now I know! It beguiles me that Master and the Musician does not sit on a shelf next to Blow by Blow and Electric Lady Land. If anything at all, it is certain the most beautiful and diverse guitar albums ever recorded. I'm not talking a better guitarist than anyone else, but nobody has a single album that can compare.

Hi! I listened the complete vinyl when I went to Chicago in 1979. Since then I was really enjoying this amazing music he plays. Of course I lost the copy and I 'm interest to get the disc "The master & the musician" again. Can someone tell me how to get it? I'm from Veracruz, Mexico and it's not possible for me to buy it here.
my mom gave me the vinyl that this song is on. she bought it in 1980 (5 years before i was even born). the record is called "The Master & The Musician." it's phenomenal! unfortunately, she didnt know how to properly care for vinyl and it's warped so badly lol. but his music is good enough that i sit through the pops and crackles :)
Totally incredible piece.I wish however He could have played it without the drummer however.I love John. But this song is met to be like the original. All guitar, flute, light drums.Barely drums. All guitar. And He is a master at it.
I don't think that's anywhere near his best album.

My favorite nine fingered guitarist; also Jimi Hendrix's.

@darasdel I think I still have the LP but also have the CD. It is very rare, heard Keaggy say he didn't even own a copy. Try ebay.

His "one man band" capabilities has been a trade mark for Phil for years.

He shreds up a (tropical) storm. I like the overall effect.

I appreciate the way Phil and the flutist volley back and forth and share the stage.
Great music and gracious showmanship.

Too bad the M/M tour was only half a year. He is coming to Wheaton, but I doubt there will be any M/M material.

This piece can be heard on the main menu of his electric guitar style DVD. I love his sunburst Les Paul!
