i witness him playing live at the alcorn state university jazz festival in vicksburg mississippi and it was amazing and i got to ask him a question was r and b or jazz harder
i remember kind of a discussion between metheny and marc ribot about bebop.
metheny is commercial. that's okay. an he is very into technical aspects. that's okay.
but i think: metheny and mccoytyner - well, maybe. but you know, what to expect.
i vote for the mccoytyner/ribot-thing. you can feel the music breathe. there is something going on, which is simply not in the natur of a metheny. that's not against metheny, it's just different worlds.
The very first song on this video - what is it called? I saw them play at Nice Jazz Festival last week and love it, but can't find it on the playslist... Thank you!!
Hi, do you know what the very first tune is on this video? The one right at the start, in the intro? I can't for the life of me find what it's called. Thanks very much!
I have seen McCoy maybe a hundred times in 40 years. This last weekend I met him for the first time and had some fantastic conversations with him. He played a concert with Joe Lovano that was great. He is one of the most humble, generous people I have ever met. We are just lucky to have an artist like him with us. His comments to me about Friedde Hubbard and Michael Brecker sent that home to me. I am so glad to have been on this earth at the same time he was. I've been touched by greatness.
Mccoy and Ribot are in the same headspace on this project, it is fresh and not a contrived attempt at something. Sure it can be a little rough around the edges sometimes but at the center is where you find the beauty in any art form.
McCoy is one of the most beautifully inspired musicians ever to play. It's wonderful to hear him playing with guitarists... would love to have heard him play with McLaughlin though!
i have to say, ribot is probably my favorite guitar player involved, but he just doesn't work on this record. with the exception of the improvised duets, he's trying to hard to fit in (which is understandable, considering who he's playing with). overall, i'd say the record sounds like what it is; a jam session with some of the best players around.

metheny's comment on ribot was arrogant.
