Good safety advice. Some idiots never learn and still insisting on putting water over oil/grease-fueled fire just because they thought it "worked" the first time. Not very smart people. For Oil/Grease fire, use huge wet cloth/lid or something (NON-FLAMMABLE) to COVER the fire. Think of a campfire where people use to throw dirt or sand over it. Fire goes out from lack of oxygen. Simple concept. :)
A faster and easier method would be to simply put the lid on the pot. Though if the flames are too big to get near it without risking burning yourself, a large wet towel would probably be the better option.
Among other problems, the water will boil explosively in the hot oil, flinging an aerosol of fine oil droplet into the air that burns faster and hotter as it rises, even explosively. Nasty. Smothering is great. Not mentioned are using a pot lid, baking soda, fire extinguisher -- and/or *leaving* the kitchen if it's out of your league.
We put them out with an extinguisher, or an inch and three quarter line if you throw water on it and light your house on fire. Skate guy, putting it in the sink is the same thing. If you run water on it it will convert to steam. You will multiply the fire by 1700x what it is.
Ok, on the vid it's too much, they just throw water from a meter away, but believe me, it's dangerous also as u mean if what's burning is oil, it's safer if u just put a cap on the pot or a wet tawel (towel?).
They use some kind of foam if th fire is a big one, otherwise it's enough a blanket to extinguish the fire for missing of oxigen. This is what i know about it, but maybe today they have some new thing that i dunno, but never water. I read somewhere that on a big fire, or fire from some chemical substance the heat could separate the oxigen from the hydrogen, so that the oxigen will become new fuel to feed thefire.
Thanks a lot, i learn some english in Danmark, maybe i can write some acceptable english, but surely i can't speak it as well as i write it, also cuz i never went to an english cursus to learn it.
This happened to me a while back, so glad i am still here

If available, a better solution is, put the pan/pot lid on top, that will definitely put the fire out, but do NOT take it off until it has cooled.

1: get your clothes on fire.
2:with the fire on you, burn other houses.
3:burn yourself and die so you won't get arrested or caught.

? What if you take the pot and put it in the sink and turn the water on while its burning????

If u throw water on burning oil, the fire will spread, as u can see from 00:21 to 00:26 on the vid.
sciusciammocca 3 years ago 13
but ur putting it in the sink, ur not throwing water on it, the water will be puring on it.
