Usually. Evacuations take place immediately after landing. Maybe the emergency was small enough where they would taxi to the gate but big enough where the slides would be used.

@drdan117 The plane was evacuated after a faulty smoke detector in the cargo compartment triggered the fire detection and supresion system in the cockpit. Usually the passengers are forced through out emergency evacuation slides and not through the jetway because the enclosed jetway may suck smoke from the airplane and endanger the lives of the passengers being evacuated.

@tyfi109 In case of fire the Jetway may suck out heat and smoke just like a chimney. this is the reason escape slides are used for safe evacuation.

As a former f/a instructor, people need to RUN FROM THE PLANE when they come down the chute,, second, NO LUGGAGE!!! Passengers also need to wait one at a time before jumping....there was way too many people at the end of the chute....however,,,, glad to see that all were safe....

@jjr1123 Hi, it all depends on what is going on....sometimes the f/a's have no choice but to use the chutes in case of smoke or a red light is on......however, I agree with you..but...Captains decisioin,,, when he says PREPARE FOR EVACUATION, get the chutes ready.......:) I was a f/a and instructor for 35 years....
