  • power!

  • We rebuild these at WesTrac CAT, This is one of the Aussie CAT dealers, All of the 3500 series engines sound so awesome!!

  • That's one big Kitty Cat... LOL

  • is this on a train or what

  • not bad at all. must be turning one hell of a generator.

  • Can be up to 2300 HP in the dumptrucks..

  • how big are the cylinders in that beast and and why it not reving faster

  • @devildriver66621 The bore and stroke are 6,7 x 7,5 in / 170 x 190 mm The whole engine has a displacement of 4210 cui / 69 litres. The engine is ideling after startup, at 600 r.p.m. At full throttle it runs at 1800 r.p.m. The locomotive has 15 notches at the controller (US standard is normaly 8)

  • @narvik01 okok it big i want one in my car lol haha

  • @narvik01 : Nice information you shared.

  • i wanna be a diesel tech and i want to know if the program is good so i can work on engines like this

  • @wlj92 I took a course at Universal Tech Institute in Phoenix, Joined the Teamsters. then later on went to work for contractors. building Diesel engines, Cummins, detroit, Caterpillar, Deuitz. after 24 yrs then these Big Cats started coming my way. parts are heavy and most of the time yo have to carry cylinder heads to the top of these 793 trucks.. good thing we're doing one hole at a time..Pick a good school and pursue this career, it's rewarding and a lot of whining from ones not trained.

  • has anyone gone to the diesel program at white mountains community college in new hampshire?

  • im at caterpiller also ...but u can hear the engine when start up there is knocking .....should make valve lash for all cylinders ...oh an way sent to meeeeeeeeee i will fix it

  • hmmm, C-15 in a semi doesn't seem so big now !

  • Those C-15 are 500hp they got power for sure cause we only have C-12 in our city truck it's not very much but its strong still.

In train those are only gen powered engines.

  • Air starter right? And what is the thing the even numbers are on and why are they even? EVEN pistons one one site and Odd pistons on other?

  • No, electric starters, two of them, 24V. The numbers marks each sylinder. If ther's a problem ore something, its easier for the mechanics to know what sylinder it is, if they'r marked with numbers. Even numbers on one bank, and odd on the other bank, and a total of 16 sylinders on this engine.

  • So all it takes is 24 volts for the electric starters to turn the crankshaft? Wow, that really isn't a lot it it? A toy car usually takes 6 volts at the motor.

  • They're really big...

  • 24 volts at 1000+ amps...

  • Wow! I'm gonna go home and jerk off with motor oil!

  • imqgine the torque on that thing...

  • Funny, All the 3516's I have worked on, I never heard on idle. Always 1800 RPm generator drive engines.

  • funny all the ones i work on (i work as a tech for cat) have idle and high idle.they start at idle until the temp gets up and then they rev to high idle.

  • When a cat engine breaks down, i hope you got deep pockets. nearly died when i was quoted on a new head gasket

  • What engine do you have carmen? Im an engineer at the 3500,3600,C175,C280 plant. Big engines aren't cheap....

  • A Cat C12 on one of our rigs. We had a CAT 3412 that threw a leg once. That did some serious damage. It took 3 days to get another generator down

  • think thats bad. lol the quote a friend got from an overhaul , damn near had a heart attack

  • why buy cat if u dont expect huge repair bills, get isuzu if you want to cheap out

  • Isuzu??? wtf? They doesn't make engines even half this size! This engines are working wery well, and are reliable!

  • Look at my chanel on the employees who work on CATERPILLAR !

    .

  • I love that sound.

  • 圧縮抜いて慣性始動ですね

    バッテリが弱ってる時はデコンプが有り難い

  • de pico

  • dang.....mount that in a 09 pete 389!,lol

  • Indeed you could IDLE your way to your destination

  • That includes a lunch break,a nap,& 2 hours on the john.LOL

  • bueno

  • Does CAT now own PERKINS engines?

  • Yes they do.

  • Yep they do. Thats why Perkins are so good now!

  • el arranque es mas rapido con arrancador neumatico, el arranque electrico no es muy eficiente en esos motores.

    por esos los 777D, 785C, 789C, 793B,793C y 793D llevan arrancador neumatico

  • Just overhauled 2 of these for a car shredder in NH.high hp 2300 each, they run from 5 am to 8 pm every day full load its scary to be next to them when they are working $400000.00 to rebuild them.

  • Not bad for a $1M engine.

  • @douro20 try about 450,000

  • @caddy52

Is that for each of the engines or a frame-out rebuild on both?

  • @douro20 thats for both engines, major out of frame overhauls.

  • I love the sound. fabulous !

  • Cats are not 2 strokes, only detroits as far as I know. This engine is 100 times better than any dirty, noisy, oil leaking old fuel ($2 a litre by the way) guzzling 2 stroke Jimmy creation. Very reliable and good on fuel for what they are.

Cummins equivalent engine is the QSK60 sounds better than this but I have had very bad experience with them (reliability). Detroits new(er) competion is the Series 4000 DDC. Good old motors in my experience I spose but Id say use more fuel than the 3516.

  • I work with more than a dozen of these things every day. Yes they are a good motor and yes I have seen the with the rods blown through the side of the block. That one is obviously an electric start (24V) but air starts are avaliable and common. WAAAAYYYY to big for anything other than mining or heavy industrial use, they are not really 'performance engines' there workhorses.

  • Fabulous sound. Does it start from a 24 volts accu bank ?

  • BRAVO MAESTRO *****

  • More. 29 seconds isn't enough.

  • love the sound of the kitty cat

  • thats cool on how they number the pistons

  • i hate to prove you wrong sir cockinator, but the 5l your talking about is a c15 series, also in cats line up is the c14 as well as the c13 and up to a few years ago the c12. think im wrong? look up the engine option that come in the PERTERBUILT.

  • WOW!!! :D

  • at least we dont like cock like u do

  • I take it that it's in a diesel hydralic locomotive. Same as what I used to work on.

  • No, Diesel electric. AC/AC

  • WOW We don't have diesel-electrics that small here. They are either hydralic or mechanical drive. The diesel electrics are a lot bigger, and a lot more fun to drive to!

  • i love my kitty ct 500 hp 3406e

  • My friend reckons they make 2 stroke caterpillar diesels, I have never seen one, do caterpillar make any 2 stroke diesels?

  • no cat never made a 2 stroke diesel detroit diesel did

  • did'nt the make de petrol starter for the cat diesel? isn't that a two stroke?

  • CAT's are generally 4 stroke diesels

  • Dont forget EMD

  • contamination control, thats what cat are pushing at the minute, they are the best..

  • Cat are anal about procedures, cleanspec etc. anything for an improvement will be implemented, there is a reason why they are the best

  • yeah thats true. when you go into the dealership to get a hydraulic hose, they are required to put caps on the ends. i guess a service guy at the dealership by me got in big trouble for not putting caps on a new hydraulic hose.

  • It's part of their cleanspec procedure and they should also blow a cleaning plug or two through the hose to clean the inside prior to dellivery. they also have to cap/cover old shitty hoses etc.

  • Wonderful... I just love heavy diesel-engines. I have been helping and working on a Mitsubishi S12R since I was a little boy. That is a V12 engine that you can take out 1600 Bhp.

But I was wondering if you can take a longer video when this Cat is running on idle?

    Thanks!

  • my lawnmower uses one of those

  • lol, what are you doing? grinding boulders?

  • Nah its more so that when your doing a valve set and setting injector heights, etc you don't get confused (working on 16 yellow pots you can sometimes lose where your at) and accidently stuff up, i'm pretty sure our bosss wouldn't like a phone call saying oh sorry dude we legged a motor.

  • My employer has 3 trucks with 3406-b inline 6's, 1 with a 3408 v-8 and one with a 3412 v12... I really hope he doesn't hear about a v16... or else I'll never get a raise.

  • caterpillar numero UNO

  • These things run faster than a regular locomotive engine.

  • Love those Caterpillar engines. I've got a fishing boat with twin 3208T 300hp diesels in it. I got to post a vid of them. :)

  • that CAT3516 on the video was MEUI one, we have the latest here the 3516C high displacement series at 3150BHP, we can supply you with these engines anytime you want..take care of that 3208, hehe

  • Thanks for the offer, but me likey my 3208's. =3 100% original from 1986, and they run great. Also, the 3208 is a V8; I don't think the 3516's would fit in my 35-foot boat :O LOL

  • ehe! sorry! i thought you have some boats there bigger than 35footer..if incase you'll replace it with latest CAT engines you can try our C7 engine only it is 6 inline but has higher power than the 3208 and it is also a fully electronic engine with the ACERT technology. that means it is less on smoke emissions and lower on fuel consumption compared to the mechanical engines..

  • As sad as it may be 3208 is a much more reliable

than a 3116. Oh sorry C7.Especially considering the 3208 is one step above an anchor.

  • That sounds sweet!

  • The company i work for makes the water cooled exhaust manifolds for all CAT 3500's. You can see them on the very top of the engine. We also make the fuel line manifolds and oil and fuel filters. I have been to the plant that makes these engines in Lafayette Indiana and they are massive.

  • try a 3616

  • ...and EMD will out pull both! ;-)

  • Nothing sounds meaner than a GE FDL16 Diesel engine.

  • execpt for on a detroit 2 stroke.

  • This is the best comment I've seen on here!

  • And Baldwin will outpull all 3 combined!

  • How about UP 3985?

  • dreat job

  • Cummins will out pull it.

  • the thing between 12 and 14 is a vent

  • wats the thing connecting 12 and 14 but not the others??

    sounds great

  • Crankcase ventilation I think...

  • chuga chiuga, that is power my boys

  • mechanical 3516 torque beast

  • Lovely sound... I want to hear more.

  • ååå herlig å få se oppstarten på en di8:D

  • Numbering the cylinders kinda reminded me of the little kids I see with their shoes marked (L)-Left and (R)-Right!! ;o) ;o)

  • Quite funny. The Cat tech will mix them up otherwise.

  • Stilig :)
